Transcript of First presentation research and planning
Make the first two pages of a local newspaper along with:
A poster for the newspaper. Two hyperlinked pages from the papers
website.
Local Chelmsford residents People who already read newspapers such as
the Echo and the Gazette People aged 18+ (newspaper readers tent to be
older)
I decided that I do not want a specific audience other than people living in the local area, so I will ain to target it at a wide range of people.
First two pages of a local newspaper
I want to make my newspaper attractive for the local community but I will still need to keep to the
usual newspaper conventions. I will use stories that will would interest a range of
people rather than just focusing on one topic. I will include stories that effect the local public and
will also interest them: Council issues
Local entertainment Sport stories
I will use the same stories from my newspaper as a summery for the
website.
I will again have to stick to the usual
conventions of a newspapers and their
websites.
•The poster for my newspaper will just be introducing what it is.
•I want it to stand out- to make the public interested in it
•I also want the strap line to be something that will stick with the people who see it, so they remember it and my newspaper.
When making my newspaper there will be certain rules I will need to follow, from the stories,
content and pictures to avoid offence and to insure professional standards in my product. These are the 16 points from The Press Complaints Commissions with the code I will need to follow:
Accuracy Opportunity to reply
Privacy Harassment
Intrusion to grief or shock Children
Children in sex cases Hospitals
Reporting of crime Clandestine devices and subterfuge
Victims of sexual assault Discrimination
Financial journalism Confidential sources
Witness payments in criminal trials Payment to criminals
•This is a cover from the Echo newspaper.
•The logo stands out amongst all of the stories.
•All of the headlines have been made very bold- each one in
different colours.
•There is a lot on the cover- main stories, pictures and adverts.
•This is the home page from the Southend Echo newspaper-the
same paper as the cover
•The first thing you look at is the newspaper logo as they have made it big and bright, so I people know
and remember what they are reading.
•It clearly has a lot going on, with different links and stories
•There are also a lot of eye-catching advertisements, which I
plan to include in my own website.
