    GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

    Prelude

    Welcome and Church Life Notes

    Introit

    *Call to Worship (responsively)

Leader: Surely, God is in this place,

People: and calls us to worship in spirit and in truth.

Leader: Surely the Lord is in this place

People: receiving our songs and praise.

All: Surely, God is in this place! Let us praise the Lord!

*Hymn “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” #260

*Prayer of Confession (in unison) Holy and Beloved God, though the world calls us in a chaotic mess of

voices, your voice stands apart. Yours is the soft, still voice that speaks

to our very heart of hearts. If we would pay attention to your voice, we

would hear your love and concern for us – and for those whose voice is

getting lost in the chaos. Help us to hear you, and through you, to hear

the voices of the oppressed, the lost, the seething, and the frightened.

May your voice bring justice and mercy to us and to all the world.

(A moment for silent personal prayer of confession)

*Assurance of Pardon (responsively) Leader: My friends, God hears your voice – whether you shout from the top of

your lungs or whisper softly below your breath. God has already forgiven

you for not listening – and is calling you to live this Good News through the

    Holy Spirit.

People: Praise God, who sends the Spirit of Truth and Love to the world.

    Amen!

*Choral Response “The Gloria” Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost!

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be! World without end! Amen! Amen!

    *Passing of the Peace

Leader: The Peace of the Lord be with you.

    People: And also with you.

    PROCLAIMING THE WORD

    Prayer for Illumination (in unison)

Jesus, Master, we are listening for your Word. Give us your Holy Spirit,

so we might hear your Good News in the words of scripture and

preaching. Teach us to seek you always and to respond to your call. We

pray for the sake of your holy name. Amen.

Revelation 7: 9-10 (page 249 NT in the pew Bible)

Leader: This is the Word of the Lord.

    People: Thanks be to God.

Matthew 28: 18-20 (page 34 NT in the pew Bible)

    Leader: The Gospel of Christ.

    People: Thanks be to God.

*Hymn “For All the Saints" #326

    RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*(Ushers gather in the narthex at this time.)

*Affirmation of Faith – The Apostles’ Creed – (Traditional version) (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the

Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he

rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the

  • right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge

    the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of

saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life

    everlasting. Amen.
