    May 22, 2016 10:30 a.m. Trinity Sunday

Music Appreciation Sunday Be reverent. This is the house of the Lord. Before the service, speak to God. During the

service, let God speak to you. After the service, speak to one another.

“I will strive to enter that intimate space of Christ’s radical love with you.”

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD Prelude “First Praise” Bill Ingram

    A Pealing Sound

Welcome and Church Life Notes *Passing of the Peace - please share the peace & love of Christ with your neighbor

Introit “This Is My Father’s World” arr. Roger Summers *Call to Worship (read responsively)

Leader: Today we come to worship the one in three – the three in one.

People: Holy Trinity, you show us what it is to never be alone.

Leader: Divinity beyond our understanding, you are always loving each other

    and us.

People: And your forms help us better understand your ways.

Leader: We will never fully comprehend your vast nature, so you show us in

    parts.

People: Glory be this day as we celebrate the Father, the Son and the Holy

    Spirit without end. Amen.

*Hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King” #15

    Prayer of Confession (read responsively)

Leader: The Psalms say that we were created a little bit lower than the divine,

but it feels so much lower than that. We come before the Triune One

today confessing that distance that we have created.

People: O Lord, you have given us dominion over the works of your

hands, and we have not been faithful caretakers. You have

shown us love, and we have turned it into hate and indifference.

You have invited us into relationship with you and each other,

and we have turned away. Help us turn around again. Help us

rejoin the heavenly chorus singing the majesty of your name.

Forgive us, we pray, for not being who you created us to be.

(A moment for silent personal prayer of confession)

Assurance of Pardon (read responsively) Leader: Dear ones, even as you walk away, your invitation is still being called

to rejoin God, Christ and the Holy Spirit as they dance the rhythm of

    the cosmos.

People: Even as we just begin to turn back around, in the name of Jesus

Christ our Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven. Alleluia amen.

    *Choral Response “The Gloria”

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost! As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be!

    World without end! Amen! Amen!

Anthem "Sing Forever to the Lord" Jon Paige Chancel Choir

PROCLAIMING THE WORD Time for Small Disciples Rev. Sarah Hooker (Children may leave for the Child Care Room following the children's message.)

Prayer for Illumination (read responsively) Leader: Living Word, you still have many things to say to us.

People: Speak, and we will try to bear them.

Leader: By your Word, may the Spirit guide us into all truth, that our lives may

    glorify you.

    People: Amen.

First Scripture Reading (page 492 OT in the pew Bible) Psalm 8 Leader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

  • RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith – The Apostles’ Creed – (Traditional version) (read in unison) (Ushers gather in the narthex at this time.)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy

Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose

again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand

of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick

    and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of

saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life

    everlasting. Amen.
