News of the month - Schlumberger Wins “Best Data Visualization Solution Award” for Petrel at the 2006 World Oil Awards

Innovation: Historically , the industry has used the term v isualization as a synonym for seismic volume interpretation employ ing high-end computing power. Seismic volume interpretation disconnected from 3D reservoir modeling is a dead-end workflow. To fully understand an asset, it is v ital to v isualize, interpret and analyze all kinds of data, including seismic, geology, drilling and production, in a single representation - a unified earth model - shared among multiple domain experts. With Petrel seismic-to-simulation software, this workflow is now possible using low- end Windows PCs at the desktop and in large collaborative env ironments.

For the second year in a row Petrel wins an award from the leading oil and gas trade journal for the exploration, drilling and production sector. Petrel is back to the podium one year after winning the World Oil “Best Exploration Technology award” for its Ant Tracking methodology. This year, World Oil® magazine honors Petrel with the “Best Data Visualization Solution Award” for its ability to support v isualization, interpretation and analysis over the life of an asset, which allows accurate prediction of the reservoir behavior in a unified earth model. Petrel, the seismic-to-simulation workflow tool that allows multiple disciplines to collaborate on a common earth model, was further enhanced in 2006 with the addition of Ocean-based modules that bridge data integration efforts.
