as well as serving a three-year term on the Theater Program Grants Panel for the Illinois Arts Council. She is a proud graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and a member of the Society for Directors and Choreographers.

MAtthew loMbArdo (Playwright) made his professional debut in the 1979 production of Damn Yankees at Hartford Stage. A Connecticut native like Katharine Hepburn, Lombardo left for the bright lights of New York City and quickly built an impressive resume, writing and directing many plays both in New York and regionally. He directed Torch Song Trilogy and the Off-Broadway comedy End of the World Party. He was both playwright and director for Mother and Child and Guilty Innocence. Other plays he’s written include House of Atreus, The Kennel Club, Trolls and Looped, about Tallulah Bankhead, which recently premiered at The Pasadena Playhouse. He is currently working on a new drama titled High. When asked where he got the idea to write Tea at Five, Lombardo says, “My good friend, Nancy Addison, who was Kate’s dear friend, (and I) were flipping through channels and Star Trek: Voyager came on, and I saw (Kate Mulgrew’s) beautiful face, and I said, ‘Someone has to write a play for this woman about Katharine Hepburn.’ And my friend Nancy said, ‘Well you’re a playwright you idiot, why don’t you write it?’ So I did. And that’s how it came about. I really…I had no intention of writing a play about Hepburn…” Lombardo dedicates Tea at Five to his mother, Julia, without whom he says, “There would be no words.”

dAVid riCe (Executive Director, Sound Design) is co-founder (with his wife Alison C. Vesely) of First Folio, where he has produced over 30 shows. He is currently appearing in My Fair Lady, the inaugural production of the new Broadway Series at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora. As a playwright he specializes in stage adaptations of literary works, including The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe (Jeff Award Nomination for New Adaptation in 2007) and The Castle of Otranto. His adaptation of Dean Monti’s Why Dogs Don’t Talk was chosen for City Lit Theater’s first annual Art of Adaptation Festival. As an actor, he has been seen at First Folio as Boolie in Driving Miss Daisy, Chris the Sly in The Taming of the Shrew, Egeus and Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Aegeon

in The Comedy of Errors, Feste in Twelfth Night and Friar Francis in Much Ado About Nothing. David has also appeared as Boolie in Driving Miss Daisy with Charlotte Rae (Briar Street Theatre); George Reed in 1776 (Marriott’s Lincolnshire); Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened... (Kinetic Theatre); and in numerous other plays and musicals, including Follies (Candlelight Dinner Playhouse), Kuni-Leml (Illinois Theatre Center), and Room Service (Bailiwick). David originated the role of Mr. Toad of Toad Hall in Doug Post’s musical version of The Wind in the Willows at the Organic Theater. Die-hard trivia fans might be interested to know that David was a 4-time winner on Jeopardy! David has been a proud member of Actors’ Equity Assn. since 1991.
