What alternative do you have to extraction?

-Root canal treatment/Endodontics

This involves removing the nerve from within the pulp

chamber of a severely decayed tooth which may have an abcess.

This eliminates the pain and infection from the tooth. Each tooth is different and can have between 1-4 canals which can have an effect on the outcome. Your dentist will be able to advise you further.

These are thin shells of porcelain which are bonded to the front of teeth, they are suitable for a variety of situations and are very effective in changing the appearance of discoloured, chipped, misaligned teeth or to close a gap.

Crowns

Crowns or caps can be made from different materials like porcelain or gold, they cover and protect the whole tooth.

Crowns are indicated in teeth that are root filled, fractured, have large fillings or are extremely decayed or discoloured.

Bridges

These are fixed appliances used to bridge the gap between the missing teeth. The size depends on how big the gap is, this will determine the type of bridge you can have.

Dentures

These are removable appliances which replace one or more missing teeth. They are available in acrylic (plastic), Chrome Cobalt (metal), or the latest material Valplast which are bendable and adapt to your mouth.

Implants

This is a metal titanium screw, that replaces the root of the natural tooth. It is placed into the underlying bone on top of which, a crown, bridge or denture is placed. Making this the ideal replacement for missing teeth, depending on sufficient bone support and good oral hygiene, which your dentist will be able to assess..

Orthodontics

This treatment involves the use of fixed or removeable braces to close gaps, straighten misaligned (crooked) or displaced teeth.

Fixed appliances can be fully metal (railway tracks) or metal free which is a more cosmetic option. These braces can be fixed to the front surface or back surface of the teeth. Your dentist will advise you on this.

Removeable appliances include the expanding type of appliance which widens the upper jaw to accommodate all misplaced teeth or to move a tooth backwards or forwards into the arch. The latest removeable appliance is In-visalign, which are transparent custom made trays, these are used to align teeth.
