FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Prayer of the day: O God, today we thank You for all those in whose words truth comes to us, for all who in every generation have taught and explained and preached the Word of truth, the Scripture. May we never listen to any teaching that would minimize the seriousness of sin or make virtue less important. Give us minds quick to discern truth and error. Give us hearts quick to follow Your revealed will. Give us such LOVE for You and Your will that the false may not lure us and we might LOVE and live Your truth through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (John M. Drescher)

ALL SING: “My Jesus, I Love Thee” (Tune: founder’s Hymn, #420 Baptist Federation Hymnal)

My Jesus, I Love Thee, I know Thou art mine,

For Thee all the follies of sin I resign; My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou;

If ever I loved Thee, if ever I loved Thee, If ever I loved you, my Jesus ’tis now.

Invocation or the Collect

*Hymn of Praise “We Have Come to Join in Worship” All (Tune – Hymn to Joy, #1)

We have come to join in worship and adore the Lord our God.

Let us come in prayer, expecting God to speak His mighty word. All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down.

Christians pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.

Let us LOVE our God supremely; let us LOVE each other, too.

Let us care for all His people till our God makes all things new. Christ will call us home to heaven; at His banquet we’ll sit

down; Christ Himself will rise and serve us loving manna all around.

Children’s Blessing Joel Russell-MacLean (The children will come forward during the singing of this hymn and will proceed to the lower hall following the blessing for their own worship.)

THE WORD OF GOD PROCLAIMED

*Hymn of Preparation “The Gift of Love” All (Tune: Gift of Love, Worship & Rejoice)

Though I may speak with bravest fire, And have the gift to all inspire.

And have not LOVE, my words are vain, As sounding brass, and hopeless gain.

Though I may give all I possess,

And striving so my LOVE profess, But not be given by LOVE within,

The profit soon turns strangely thin.

Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control,

Our spirits long to be made whole. Let inward LOVE guide every deed;

By this we worship, and are freed.

Sermon “A Four Letter Word” John Nelson

VOICE NOVEL STUDY The next novel study will be on Saturday March 5th. We will be reading “Good to a Fault” by Marina Endicott.

In a moment of self-absorption, Clara Purdy’s life takes a sharp left turn when she crashes into a beat-up car carrying an itinerant family of six. The Gage family had been traveling to a new life in Fort McMurray, but bruises on the mother, Lorraine, prove to be late-stage cancer rather than remnants of the accident. Recognizing their need as her responsibility, Clara tries to do the right thing and moves the children, husband and horrible grandmother into her own house—then has to cope with the consequences of practical goodness.

The novel study is open to all women who loves to read, but can’t commit to a bi-weekly study. It is a chance to get together and enjoy the thoughts and perspectives of other others on the chosen book. If you are interest adding your name to our e-mail list please let Laureen know 306-757-8403.

CBM NEWS AND PRAYER REQUESTS

ETHIOPIA:

Ethiopia, a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa just north of Kenya, is experiencing its worst drought in 50 years. Triggered by the El Nino, drought conditions hit Ethipia beginning in June of 2015, and have spread rapidly, impacting an estimated 10.1 million people in need of food aid. Please pray for an increase in food aid, treatment for child malnutrition, intervention to save livestock and crops and for the support of families to keep their children in school. PHILIPPINES:

CBM Field Staff in the Philippines, Emo & Kathy Yango, ask for your prayers over their ministry. In the process of translating the Bible into local dialects, a critical step includes checkers who read the first draft of any translated material for comprehensibility – pray that they, along with the translators, be protected and given clear minds throughout, and for this translation project of the book of Matthew & Acts to be powerful and fruitful. Also, please pray for the Yangos as they complete writing resources for training sessions they will facilitate for building up leaders in the region.
