We are planning to certify more fish with the AquaGAP label in 2012. Misai Tsai, President Director, Lucky Samudra Pratama Lying on a small island around 60 km north of Jakarta, Lucky Samudra is an off- shore marine culture company with 250 employees specialised in the production of pompano. Besides marine aquaculture, the company also processes products from wild catch such as red snapper, barramundi and golden trevally. All products are processed in compliance with the food safety standards HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practises) and therefore traceability can be assured. With the support of SIPPO, Lucky Samudra showcased their products at the European Seafood Exhibition (ESE) in 2010. By participating in this international trade show, the company successfully established numerous business contacts with major European companies and won new customers, also gaining valuable practical experience as an exhibitor. Moreover, the company not only increased their sales and number of employ- ees, but also gained new insights into product development and certification issues. As a major result, Lucky Samudra realised the importance of the AquaGAP certification, a new standard for Good Aquaculture Practices. AquaGAP certification on farm-raised seafood aims to ensure consumer trust in the quality of sustainably produced seafood products. Lucky Samudra started the certification process with IMO (Institute for Market- ecology) and after several audits received its AquaGAP certification in January 2011. The AquaGAP label opens a wide range of new possibilities for Lucky Samudra on the European market. Being the first Indonesian company with the AquaGAP certification for their pompano is a great milestone in the company’s long term commitment to sustaina- bility and environmentally sound aquaculture practices, in conjunction with their stand- ards for high quality products.
