Rotary is an International Rotary is an International OrganizationOrganization

There are 530 Districts in 169 countries throughout the world.

Your club is in District 6400 which is comprised of 51 clubs with 1850 members.

The District covers Essex County in Ontario, Canada and Wayne, Monroe and Lenawee Counties in Michigan, US.

Rotary International is governed by a president and a board of directors

elected from all over the world.

Annually each District elects a District Governor 2 1/2 years prior to taking office.

- but each Rotary Club is an autonomous club.

In the beginning…In the beginning…

The first Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in 1905, by Paul P. Harris.

The club, with four members, met in rotation at the offices of the members - thus the name Rotary.

There are currently over 32,317 clubs with 1,206,670 members.

Rotary was not long to recognize that fellowship alone would not keep a group together — there needed to be a purpose.

First project was public washrooms in downtown Chicago.

Rotary became the world’s first “service club”.

Attendance Attendance at the weekly meetings is a

benefit of Rotary. A minimum of 60% is expected. Attending club events count.

You can maintain your attendance levels by making up at another Rotary Club within 14 days in advance or 14 days after a meeting is missed; or by attending a District event or a RI Convention.

Group Study Exchanges– Teams of one Rotarian leader and four

non-Rotarian business or professional young people visit our district for four to six weeks, while our team visits their district for the same period.

Rotary Youth Exchange Program– 16-18 year olds are exchanged world-

wide.– Part of a 7,000 students/year

program.– Rotarians host these young people in

A service club should be fun to be a part of even when the work is tiresome.

Rotary strives to be a fun, young-at-heart club.

Social events are offered regularly. Laughter is the language of Rotary. We live up to RI Past President Hugh

Archer’s theme: “Enjoy Rotary.”
