Design a visual identity for a new up-market restaurant, and consider how this would work across a range of promotional products. THE BRIEF Everyone needs to eat, but not everyone needs to go out to eat. Firefly Lounge & Bistro provides their customers with a unique dining experience, and an ‘escape’ from reality. The luxury interior design is inspired by the natural environment, and is mainly lit by candle light, to create an intimate setting. The visual identity and promotional products reflect the style of the restaurant and the mood that it creates. THE CONCEPT I had to consider a few things when creating the logo. It needs to represent an up-market restaurant, therefore must look classy, and it must also have a connection with the natural environment. It needs to be charming, intriguing, and make people associate it with a unique dining experience. It should also be clear and memorable. I decided to use ‘Lounge & Bistro’ rather than ‘Restaurant’ as it seems more up-market and different. The rich purple colour used should exudes luxury, and reflects a warm summers night. However there is also possibility of using it in black and white. The typeface used for ‘Firefly’ is Trajan Pro, and ‘Lounge & Bistro’ is Perpetua. The image that accompanies the type, was inspired by wings of fireflies, and makes it look a bit like a flower, which again relates to nature. This could be used as a logo alone to represent Firefly once it had become a recognisable brand. The menu consists of Appetizers, Mains, Sides, Desserts and Coffees, and within these seperate pages a message can be picked out through emphasized words in the dish descriptions. This is an underlining statement that reflects Firefly, and it reads:

‘‘A combination of exceptional dishes, with service beyond excellence, in our own unique environment.’’

The elements of luxury and nature are brought into the design through the stock and wood binding. The wood will have the Firefly logo lazer cut into, to reveal the stock in the inside.

The scale of this menu is: 198mm x 140mm.Printed on white, 250 gsm matt.

The receipt header contains the relevant information in a clear composition with, the logo, phone number and website are also included at the top.

The scale of the receipt is 140mm width and the length will vary according to the bill.Printed on white, 50 gsm paper.

The holder itself is a single fold, and is similar to the business card with the logo and pattern on the outside. The receipt can easily be slotted inside, and held by cuts in the holder which would be dye cut.

Not only is it a business card, it also has another side attached, that gives the customer a chance to get 10% off their next bill. All they have to do is give a review about their experience on the Firefly website, along with the code provided. With the restaurant being new, this introductory offer means that Firefly will get a chance to receive feedback, and customers have an incentive to come back.

The cards can be separated as there is a perforation on the fold. This means the customer can keep the business card once they have registered their code.
