Learning Environment Information: Please read the following information regarding your Learning Environment and adapt your chosen Lesson Plan for delivery. This learning environment information is to be utilized for all remaining assignments/JPRs to follow. To conduct training, you are provided with a fire hall. The Hall has two pumper bays, which houses a 500 gallon pumper and a heavy rescue vehicle. There is a 20 x 12 Training Room located in the back part of the fire hall. This room has three windows on the left side, equipped with blinds. There is one full glass door with no covering. There are two workout rooms located on the right side as you walk in. Both of these have doors that can be closed during the presentations. No one is scheduled to utilize these rooms weeknights from 18:00 hrs. to 21:00 hrs. The classroom has two small 12 x 12 whiteboards and one large chalk board. A TV, DVD player, speakers, computer projector and laptop computer are available for use. One whiteboard can be utilized as a screen for projection purposes; however, there is a large screen available for use. The room is climate controlled with its own thermostat. The lighting cannot be dimmed, however, there are multi-switches which allows for lights to be turned off in sections of the room for better viewing of the projected images. There are 12 foldable tables and 24 chairs available for use in the training room. The room is large enough for small practical demonstrations, such as fire hose couplings. However, not large enough for the various types of hose rolls and coupling/uncoupling, which will have to occur in the fire hall apparatus bay or parking lot areas. The pumper and rescue can to be removed from the building to allow for the hose to be spread out through the apparatus bay. If it is a nice evening, participants can move to the large paved parking lot outside. To effectively organization the classroom, one would have to arrive before a scheduled class. The Department Policy is for any Firefighters who cannot attend training must call in prior to the scheduled session. This is be logged in a training report. One should ensure that the seating is properly arranged, projector and computer are working properly and the white boards are cleaned. The Pumper Bays measure approximately 10 feet wide by 65 feet in length. These bays have two electronic doors, with one side door entry. The vehicles may be placed outside, weather permitting, during training evolutions. There is one large hose drying rack on the left side of one bay, which cannot be removed. There is a model of a fire hydrant available for use, as well as other tools and equipment located on the pumper and rescue vehicles. The parking lot area is fully paved, measuring approximately 100 x 100 feet. Vehicles can be parked on one side of the parking lot to allow for full use of the given area. Behind the Fire Hall is a second parking lot belonging to the Town Hall. No vehicles are parked here during the evenings. This is also available for use, measuring approximately 75 x 100 feet. This area has the only working hydrant available for use.

JPR #FSI-4 Instructions: Read the following sections which outline the requirements for this assignment. You will use your chosen lesson plan (JPR 2) to proceed with this assignment. Your task is to provide a detailed narrative on how you will manage and organize your classroom laboratory or outside learning environment. This is to include the following areas: classroom management and organization; seating arrangement; behavior management; technology/audiovisuals; safety considerations; and on-call personnel. Further instructions are under each heading provided.

Classroom Management and Classroom Organization Classroom management and organization are very important to consider when developing your lesson plan information. Clearly outline how you plan to manage and organize your classroom, laboratory or outdoor learning environment, to meet the needs of your selected learning objectives. Explain how you will deal with the following where applicable: Lighting? Distractions? Climate Control? Weather? Noise Control?

Seating Arrangement

Here are samples of the Seating Arrangements that are outlined in your textbook that are commonly used in academic and training situations.. Please choose one type that you will find most effective to use and an alternate. Give a rationale for your choice.

a) Fan — Permits students to easily see and hear an instructor and also works effectively in small groups.

b) Traditional — Permits students to see, hear, and interact with an instructor. Student interaction is limited and difficult, but the arrangement is applicable to any size of audience.

c) Auditorium or theater — Fixed seating for a medium-to-large sized audience that faces a stage or lectern, allowing interaction only between the instructor and the students. May require a sound system so that the audience can hear the instructor; typically lacks any writing surface on which students can take notes.

d) Conference — Allows for total group discussion where limited or no small-group activities are required. It is most effective for small classes where students are seated around one table.

e) Chevron — Similar to the traditional arrangement in that students can easily see, hear, and interact with the instructor, but student interaction is limited.

f) Horseshoe or U-shape — Provides a clear view of the instructor, who may be at the open or closed end of the U shape. Permits both instructor presentation and total group discussion, but not small-group interaction. Used for small-to-medium-sized audiences.

g) Hollow square — Arranges tables into a square, with seating along the outside. It is effective for small-to-medium-sized groups and permits both instructor presentation and total discussion.

h) Circled chairs — Arranges chairs in a circle facing into the center; an open form designed to encourage group participation and discussion.

Behaviour Management During your delivery, you will experience personnel with the following issues:

• Shy in coming forth with questions • Illiterate • Talkative throughout delivery • Inappropriate humor

Explain how you would deal with these distractions/issues during your delivery.

Technology / Audiovisuals

Explain the process of the preparation around the technology and audiovisual requirements for the lesson you are to conduct. This should include projected and non-projected equipment as well.

Safety Safety is a key concern when organizing any training. Given your training environment information, outline where training will be conducted and the rationale for your choice. Be sure to outline which equipment will be required to ensure that safety is maintained for both the instructor and the participants. For example: checking for Slip/Fall areas is important. Identify any items can be utilized to ensure safe working conditions in the location(s) chosen - eg. When conducting exercises in the Parking Lot, bright orange traffic cones will be used to indicate the perimeter being utilized for skills performance. This will alert any oncoming traffic to the parking lot.

On-Call Personnel During your delivery, some personnel may be on-call, which can cause a delay or distraction in the delivery of your material. Please ensure that you outline how this can effectively handle this situation, it if were to occur.

Evaluation Under evaluation, you will create a multiple choice quiz further along in your JPRs. However, you must note here that a multiple choice examination will be provided to students with a passing grade being 70%. Any re-writes to be conducted, must be conducted within one week of the original examination. Final Instructions: Now that you have these headings and information adapted to the learning environment, you must add them into your lesson plan that you adapted in assignment/JPR 3. This will result in this assignment being one complete lesson plan.
