Meyvaert Fire Protection is the Meyvaert Glass Engineering division specialized in glazed fireproof constructions and compartments. The consequences of a fire cannot be predicted. Public authori-ties therefore define norms with which buildings should comply, and decide what walls should be fireproof.
Meyvaert Fire Protection pioneered the glazed fireproof compartments, and developed its own pro-file system. This system also comply with high design and custom made production requirements

Glass and Fire Resistance
The use of glass in a building allows for more daylight. Natural daylight offers a healthy and serene climate. The us-ers of the building can therefore enjoy more comfort and well being. Essentials such as natural light and heat can be harnessed and optimized by glass all year long.
In spite of preconceived ideas, fireproof constructions do not have to be bulky and heavy. Meyvaert Fire Protection is the first to have turned these into light weight, glazed and fully transparent constructions Meyvaert Fire Protection uses the glass in metallic structures that protect the building from fire. We have invested for more than 20 years in fire testing, and this allows us to keep pushing the protection limits further.

Fire Resistance and EI classification
Meyvaert Fire Protection has developed a unique system for creating fully glazed fire resistant constructions. All sys-tems meet the very strict Belgian norm NBN 713.020 (often referred to as RF or CF). This standard is referred to by the European Union as EI30, EI60, EI90 and EI120.

The test simulates a fire and studies the reaction of the fireproof elements. A test construction is installed in front of an oven (3m x 3m). The temperature within the oven follows the standardized ISO curve: the temperature of the oven reaches 821°C after 30 minutes and 925°C after 60 minutes. One side of the door faces the oven; the other side is called the public side. Temperature sensors are fitted to the public side of the test construction. These sensors measure the temperature variations between the ambient temperature in the test lab (for instance 20°C) and the surface temperature on the fireproof element. During the whole test period, the fireproof element must comply with 3 criteria:
—Mechanical stabilityThe fireproof elements must maintain their integrity during and after the test.
—Flame-repellentThe fireproof elements must provide a hermetic seal and prevent the passage of flames or gas.
—Heat insulationThe increase in temperature measured on the element may not exceed 140°C as an average or 180°C at any point
location.
The flameproof elements comply with the first 2 criteria but not with the heat insulation criterion

Project Management and Engineering
Upon signing a contract we assign a team under the control of the project manager. We take measurements on the construction site. We submit all detail and execution drawings for client approval. After approval of drawings, pur-chase and production orders are issued.
Manufacturing
All our projects are engineered-to-order. Meyvaert has a production facility of 10.000m2 and state-of-the-art manu-facturing equipment. All manufacturing and preliminary assembling is done in our workshop.
‘Assembly’
Meyvaert Fire Protection has its own assembly teams and possesses the necessary equipment that can be used in the most difficult situations, in Belgium and abroad.
After sales
Meyvaert Fire Protection has its own after sales service department responsible for long term maintenance. This level of support is exceptional in our industry and we will ensure that the quality of the Meyvaert installation can be maintained in its original condition.

In case of fire, the fireproof glass offers a stable barrier against smoke, flames and toxic fumes during 30, 60, 90 or120 minutes. In case of fire, the glass turns opaque due to the intermediate intumescent layer it contains. Thus a thermal shield is created with perfect thermal insulation.

Glass to Glass Systems
This system replaces the intermediate profile by a structural joint. In this way the number of profiles is limited to the minimum, and results into a flat, glazed plane. There are no vertical profiles to disrupt the view.

2. Sliding automatic doors
These doors are fully automatic and have a fire rating of 30 or 60 minutes. The construction consists of a horizontal beam which contains the sliding mechanism. The glass doors are suspended from this sliding mechanism, the doors will pass in front of one or more adjacent fixed glass panels. The doors consist of a fireproof structure with an alu-minium finished frame. This is a highly specified sliding system, which not only meets the fire rating requirements but also copes with the load of fire rated glass.

Meyvaert Fire Protection manufacture fireproof glazed doors and windows with extruded profiles utilising the Rey-naers system.Meyvaert Fire Protection has established an exclusive collaboration with the company Reynaers. These profiles are extruded and allow for indoor and outdoor applications.

Transparency is important in a building. Through horizontal glazed constructions Meyvaert Fire Protection allows the light to penetrate into the heart of the building. Glass Ceilings and floors can be made fireproof using the Meyvaert Fire Protection system.

Skylight Systems
Light can also flood in through a skylight structure. In certain cases, fire can propagate through the skylight to neigh-bouring buildings or to a higher floor. In these conditions, the skylight must also be fireproof and Meyvaert Fire Protec-tion have developed the solution.
The structure is composed of insulated fireproof reinforced profiles. The profiles are thermally insulated and well drained. A special drainage canal takes the infiltration or condensation water away to the outer side of the skylight. On the upper part, the glass is fixed with special cladding profiles.
