Key Change:

The AFGP is no longer affiliated with FEMA. The Department of Homeland

Security has prioritized the grant program, and is now managed by the Office for Domestic Preparedness.

The purpose of the FP&S program is to assist State, regional, national or local organizations to address fire

prevention and safety. The primary goal is to reach high-risk target groups including children, seniors and

firefighters.

Regional partnerships, state, local, or community organizations (including fire departments) may

apply. Private non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply.

“We encourage applicants to develop projects that address an identified fire prevention need. We encourage

applicants to develop innovative projects that have a reasonable potential to be effective. We believe there is a

greater benefit to funding projects that have been based on risk assessment. (Assessment) methodology should be

discussed in the application (narrative).”
