continuity

Protecting People

and PropertyOne of the main causes

of fire spread within a

building is a result of fire

and smoke travelling

through unsealed voids

in floors, walls, ceilings

and roofs.

Fire Stopping /

Penetration Sealing

systems

Fire Stopping is a passive fire

protection method designed to

diminish the opportunity for fire

to spread through unprotected

openings in fire rated walls and

floors. Fire stopping systems are

designed and applied by

Fitzpatrick Insulation & Passive

Fire Protection to restore the

continuous fire-resistance of

building assemblies, impeding the

spread of fire by filling the

openings in them with

fire-resistant materials.

Compliance

Commercial, Institutional and

other residential property owners

are obliged to comply with

stringent Fire Protection

regulations, the principle being

the Irish Fire Safety Guidance

Document Part B of the Second

Schedule to the Building

Regulations, 1997 and Building

Regulations 2006 Technical

Guidance Document B Fire Safety

and the Fire Services Act 1981 &

2003 which requires owners /

occupiers to ensure that their

premises achieve and maintain an

adequate standard of fire safety

in order to safeguard occupants.

We are fully accredited and

compliant with all relevant

building and fire regulations and

are certified installers of Third

Party Accredited Passive Fire

Protection Systems which are

both tested and certified to latest

European standards EN 1366-3

and EN1366-4, Classified to EN

13501-2:2007, and CE Marked to

ETAG-026.

Fire Compartmentation

Fire compartmentation is an

important element of ‘passive

fire protection’ and is achieved

by dividing the premises into

‘fire compartments’ through the

use of fire doors, floors and

walls of fire-resisting

construction, cavity barriers

within roof voids and fire

stopping to services that

penetrate through these

dividing elements.

Fitzpatrick Insulation & Passive

Fire Protection can separate

your building structure into

discrete fire zones which will:

• Prevent the spread of fire,

smoke and toxic gases

• Subdivide buildings into

manageable areas of risk

• Provide adequate means of

escape enabling time for the

occupants to safely

evacuate the premises.

Fire Door

Inspection

Maintenance

and Replacement

Fire doors are a crucial part of any

public, commercial or

multiple-occupancy buildings

protection strategy. They resist fire

and smoke, protect escape routes

and effectively save lives, but only

if they work properly. Legislation

dictates that the building owner is

responsible, and that Fire Doors

should be checked every 6 months

and moreover, you need to show

evidence of this.

Our certified Fire Door Inspection

& Maintenance service offer full

in-depth reporting, maintenance,

repair and replacement services to

ensure that your building is safe

from potential fire hazards.

Fire Protection

for Ceilings and Walls

in Existing/Heritage

Buildings

Fitzpatrick Insulation & Passive

Fire Protection can provide a

Fire-resistant coating for

upgrading plasterboard and

lath-and-plaster ceilings to

one-hour protection.

This coating system offers an

excellent solution to

refurbishment projects where

ceilings and walls cannot be

replaced with new plasterboard

products, allowing the original

features to remain in Graded

historical buildings.

Fire protection for

timber ceilings, walls

doors and floors

Fitzpatrick Insulation & Passive Fire

Protection have a wide variety of

solutions for fire protection to

timber which is especially effective

in refurbishment projects, often

allowing existing architectural

features to remain in place.

Solutions provided include

achieving Class 0 & 1 spread of

flame to panelled timber as well as

achieving 30- & 60-minutes fire

resistance to load bearing

floorboards and joists

Fire Protection

for Electric Cables

Fitzpatrick Insulation & Passive Fire

Protection provide intumescent

fire-retardant coatings designed for

cables with plastic casing to prolong

the functions of the cables and

inhibits PVC fumes in the event of a

fire. When exposed to fire or heat,

the product develops a microporous

intumescent foam layer which

protects the cable with its low

caloric conductivity.

Tested to BS476 Part 22 (1987),

achieving an integrity of 4 hours.

The cables continued to carry

current for 97 minutes.

Fire Protection

for Structural Steel

It can take just a few minutes for

unprotected steelwork in a building

to attain temperatures of around

550ºC in a fire. At this temperature,

steelwork loses its load bearing

capacity by up to 50% and the

structure is likely to collapse, giving

little time for people to evacuate

and even less time for the fire

service to bring the fire under

control.

Fitzpatrick Insulation & Passive Fire

Protection protect your steel

structure by applying intumescent

coatings providing up to 2 hours fire

resistance. Intumescent coating

reacts in a fire situation by

expanding and forming an

insulating char layer up to 50 times

the paints original thickness.
