We were very lucky with the weather to have a beautiful sunny day! Thank you to our parents, carers, nans, pops and community members who came to support the children as they ran around the lake. Students who came first, second, third or fourth in their race (8 years and up) have been given a note to attend the District PSSA Carnival in Mulwala this Friday, 21 st May 2021. Students who progress to the Riverina Cross Country will travel to Gundagai on Thursday 10 th June. We wish all our students the best for a day of fun and fitness in Mulwala! Attendance Matters It is very important that children of school age attend school each day unless they have a justified reason for absence. All absences must be explained to the school. The law in NSW states that all children between the ages of 6 and 17 years of age are required to attend school and it is the responsibility of parents or caregivers to make sure that children attend school every day. Acceptable reasons for being away from school include: Your child is too sick to go to school. Your child has been injured. Your child has to go to a religious ceremony. Your child has an infectious illness (eg. Chicken pox, mumps or measles). Please do not keep your child away from school for: Birthdays. To go shopping. Looking after other children. Hair cuts. If you are having trouble getting your child to go to school, please let us know so we can work out a solution. We are looking closely at school attendance and working with Hayley Hall our Home School Liaison Officer to improve attendance. NAPLAN This week we are finalising NAPLAN assessments. Year 3 and Year 5 students participate in NAPLAN assessments each year. Results are used by teachers to work on areas of strength and weakness across the school and for individual students. Results will be available later in the year and will be sent home to parents when they are received by the school. Second Step:

PLANNING FOR LEARNING

This Term, our Positive Behaviour for Learning teaching focus has switched to Second Step activities. Second

Step is a whole school program which teaches the skills needed for social and academic success.

Our lesson content this week revolves around the planning that is needed for successful learning habits.

Children will learn and understand that making a plan can help you to be a better learner.

The most successful plans are those that are in good order, make sense and is simple to follow.

Key words are; plan and planning.

Last week we discussed being assertive. We will continue to remind students to be assertive without

rudeness, to help them to ask for what they need.

Please discuss these with your children at home and help them to practise assertiveness and planning for

learning.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher via the school office.
