DISTANCES

In the capital area, travelling from one place to another is quite easy: Bus, tram, train, one metro line.

Outside the capital area you have less options to travel and the most convenient way of travelling is by car or long distance train.

Public transport guide in the Metropolitan area is called Journey Planner. You get the route info and timetables from this website: https://www.hsl.fi/en

Tips for everyday life Direct eye contact is a sign of trust. Greetings are formal, with a firm handshake, direct eye contact, and a smile. Among youngsters informal greetings are more common “hei”, “moi” or

“terve”. People in Finland "say what they mean, and mean what they say." Not a

small talk -culture. Finns place a great value on speaking plainly and openly. You only kiss your beloved ones. Kisses on the cheek are not commonly used

in Finland. One talks, the other listens -culture. First name basis. Finns don’t like to address people with titles and last names. Common distance between speakers is 1-2 meters – give to Finn his/her own

space. Finns appreciate punctuality in both business and social situations and arrive

on time.

FINNISH CUISINE Traditional Finnish cuisine is a

combination of European, Fennoscandian and Western Russian elements; table manners are European.

The food is generally simple, fresh and healthy. Fish, meat, grain (rye, barley and oat) (strawberries, blueberries, lingonberries and cloudberries) mushrooms (chanterelles, boletus) and ground vegetables are typical ingredients.

We like milk products and we also eat a lot of potatoes.
