Equipment & Yarn:

You only need 1 ball of yarn for these mittens. In these instructions, I am using…

• Yarn: Stylecraft Cabaret - Shade: 3583, Hummingbird

• Hook: Size 4.0

• Scissors

• Yarn Needle

Instructions:

1. In your chosen yarn, tie a slip knot and chain 34.

Note: This should go round the wrist, but not quite join up. So you should adjust this number as appropriate.

2. In the 3 chain from the hook, work a half treble.

Continue in half trebles for this row, chain 1 at the end. (32 stitches) The chain 1 is a turning chain, so turn your work.

3. *Double crochet in each stitch for the next 31 rows.

This should form a flat rectangle now.

4. You need to measure the stitches compared to the initial measurements you took. You need the stitches in this rectangle to cover the desired length of your crochet fingerless gloves, from the bottom of your thumb up to your wrists. If needs be, continue to lengthen the rectangle, by continuing in pattern, or for children's gloves, you would not need to work as many rows.

Note: Do not worry if the rectangle doesn't quite go round your wrist.

5. You are now ready to turn your work. You will be working up the side of your panel.

6. Turn your work 90 degrees, and dc along the rows of your rectangle.

At the end of the row chain 1 stitch and turn the work round.

7. Work back along the glove edge twice more.

Note: You should make sure that the worked rows fit snuggly round your wrist. You will do one more row to join. Make sure it’s not too tight (the gloves will “give” a little)

8. It is time to join the two edges together…

Removing the working yarn out of the equation at the moment (do not cut), place the two corners of the glove together.

With the crochet hook, put this through the corner stitch on the second side.

Work a double crochet.

Continue going down the glove, joining both sides with a double crochet. 9. You now need to create the thumb hole, by chaining 10-15 stitches.

This should fit snuggly around your thumb.

Once complete, join the yarn at the other edge of the vertical strip. To do this make a slip stitch.

You will then find that the fingerless glove looks like this…

10. Work round the glove, dc'ing through the thumb chain at the beginning/end of each row. You will need to work 3-5 rows (pictured here in the sparkly magenta)…

11. Once these steps are completed, the glove should be finished.

You will just need to sew in the ends, and remove any left over yarn.

Your finished glove should look like this…
