Dear Arts and Culture Enthusiasts,FAU’s School of the Arts is pleased to announce our expanded season of events for 2014-15. Every year we strive to engage the community with new and exciting cultural offerings. This year we invite you to join us on FAU Arts Day, when the public will have a chance to come tour our facilities, watch artists at work, and become part of the creative process. Also this year, we

have developed events which explore themes related to FAU’s new Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative. These events are indicated throughout the brochure by a *PJHR.

RITTER ART GALLERYExhibition: January 16 – February 28 | Opening: Thurs, Jan 15, 6:30 pmClosed: December 22 - January 6Co-curated by Rod Faulds and guest curator Jeanie Giebel (FAU ’13), Altarations is an exhibition featuring over 20 contemporary artists who blend photographic images and processes to produce works that celebrate, contradict and undermine photographic traditions through altered images and references. The purposefully misspelled title of the exhibition is derived from Mark C. Taylor’s Altarity (1987) – an anthology of Taylor’s writing interpreting several modern philosopher’s views of difference and otherness. Select artists include Ellen Carey, Noriko Furunishi, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Maria Martinez-Cañas, Hugh Scott-Douglas and James Welling among others.

This exhibition presents the work of new faculty members/artists teaching in three academic areas including The Department of Visual Arts and Art History, School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, and School of Architecture. Participating faculty artists work in diverse media including photography, sculpture, painting and electronic media.

BERLIN WALL SCHMIDT CENTER GALLERY Exhibition: November 8 – 9 | Opening: Sat, Nov 8, 6:30 pmNovember 9th commemorates the 25th anniversary of removal of the Berlin Wall. This weekend event will include a full-scale reproduction of BREAKTHROUGH, a monumental sculpture of the Berlin Wall by Edwina Sandys, and a panel discussion by FAU professors on the historical significance the sculpture represents.

FAU POTTERS GUILD FALL/SPRING SHOW AND SALERITTER ART GALLERY Fall: Friday & Saturday, December 19 – 20, 10 am – 5 pm (both days)Spring: Friday & Saturday, May 8 – 9, 10 am – 5 pm (both days) The Potters Guild is a student organization open to all students interested in ceramics. This group sponsors lectures, workshops, pottery sales, barbecues and scholarships, and hosts two annual exhibitions. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibitions is donated to the ceramics program.

For more than 10 years students trained by the University Galleries have provided interactive exhibition tours and arts education services for school-aged children through partnerships with the School District of Palm Beach County and the Cultural Educators Committee of the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. The Museum Education Program strives to employ arts integration methods when collaborating with middle and high school teachers. The program also provides arts education services to children in after school settings such as annual exhibitions and other programs with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
