It’s Cake O’Clock Somewhere!An annual tradition, celebrate with free slices of French-themed cake for the first 1,000 guests who march into Bastille Days at noon on Thursday, July 12. For the 13th year, Metro Market decorators spend days leading up to the festival carefully constructing the French-themed cake-sterpiece!
Get to know your CathedralVisit the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for tours, an interfaith peace vigil on Friday evening, the annual French Mass at 5:15 pm on Saturday, July 14, plus artworks and coffee served in the Cathedral Garden to benefit Open Door Cafe’s meal program.
Calling all French Bulldogs!Furry friends can take part in Parisian fun, too! To enter, snap a photo of your pooch and post to Instagram with the tag #MKECutestFrenchie by Saturday, June 30. The top five dogs will be invited to the fest’s VIP tent on Sunday, July 15, where Milwaukee Magazine will award “Milwaukee’s Cutest Frenchie” with a pet prize package and chance to be featured in an upcoming issue of Milwaukee Magazine!

Worldly Wine tastingsSip and sample world-class wine during sommelier-led tastings presented by the University Club on Friday, July 13 at 8:30 pm and Saturday, July 14 at 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm. Each attendee will receive eight tasting tickets, good for 2 oz. pours. Tickets are $40 at the festival or $30 in advance at bastilledaysfestival.com.
Kids DayThe youngest of Francophiles will enjoy an afternoon geared entirely to them. The 10th annual Kids Day returns Saturday, July 14 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Highlights include ballet stretching and posing, mini French lessons courtesy of Alliance Française de Milwaukee, appearances by local sports mascots, magic tricks, caricature artists, extreme juggling and balancing acts, art activities and other hands-on games. Plus, a French-inspired breakfast will be available from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Beignets Français tent for just $5.
Spills and Thrills at the Waiter/Waitress RaceTackling an intricate obstacle course while balancing full wine glasses is no easy feat for these professionals. Cheer on local bars and restaurants as they go head-to-head for cash prizes and bragging rights during the annual Waiter/Waitress Race beginning at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 15.

Ceremonial Firkin TappingMilwaukee Brewing Co. and Bastille Days sponsor Beechwood Distributors will unveil a new brew with a nod to French ingredients on Thursday, July 12 at 5:30 pm at the Madison Medical Affiliates Beaux Arts Stage. The ceremonial tapping will offer an up-close look at the brew’s firkin keg, plus an informative demo detailing the careful steps in production. Fresh, frothy samples will be poured for of-age spectators.
Storm the BastilleMilwaukee’s favorite nighttime fun run, the Associated Bank Storm the Bastille 5K run/walk, will return to the streets of downtown Milwaukee for its 34th year on Thursday, July 12 at 9:00 pm. Commemorating the revolutionary storming of the Bastille prison by Parisians in the 18th century, the run will start at the corner of Jefferson and Wells streets and lead 5,000+ participants through downtown Milwaukee and the Historic Third Ward. Advance registration is $25 at bastilledaysfestival.com or $30 the day of the event.
For safety reasons, animals, strollers and bicycles are prohibited from the race. Runners are reminded that times will not be recorded.
