Welcome to The Shard

I’m delighted that you are able to join us for our 5th Annual Financial-Clarity Seminar here in London. When we hosted our inaugural event back in 2009, we hoped that Financial-Clarity would become firmly established as the leading Market Intelligence tool for the Financial Services industry. Now in 2013 we’re confident we’ve achieved that goal. However, we couldn’t have anticipated that - just four years on - we would be hosting an event inside such an iconic venue to quite so many Financial Services professionals within the industry. We’re proud to confirm we deliver the most accurate, regular and comprehensive sales aggregation and benchmarking tool in the United Kingdom. Through a market -leading product and sheer determination, persistence, obstinacy - call it what you will - we now have transaction data regularly supplied by over 60 market participants covering over 90% of the Fund Management and Platform industries and - thanks to our recent Life & Pensions trial - an anticipated 85% of this sector as well. So what does this mean for you? DirectionsThe entrance to the Aqua-Shard restaurant complex is located at 31 St Thomas Street, London SE1 9RY. On exiting London Bridge railway or underground station, take the escalator down from Joiner Street onto St Thomas Street and and turn left. The entrance to the Aqua-Shard restaurant complex is the first entrance on your left through the revolving doors (after the entrance to the Shangri-La hotel). Take the lift to the 32nd floor, or ask one of our helpers for assistance.

James Harris - Head of Retail Marketing, Fidelity Worldwide InvestmentJames has held a variety of UK and international marketing roles in his 10 years at Fidelity. James is part of the Fidelity Retail management team which has responsibility for the development and distribution strategy of Fidelity managed investment funds and solutions. Prior to Fidelity James held senior marketing and product roles at M&G Investments and Jupiter Unit Trust Managers.

David Ferguson - Chief Executive Officer, NucleusBorn and bred in Edinburgh, David started his career as a trainee actuary with Life Association of Scotland before stints with Ivory & Sime, Scottish Life International and strategic consultancy The Abacus. Having concluded that the industry wasn’t fit for purpose, David embarked on a journey in 1998 which culminated in the 2006 formation of Nucleus, the UK’s first and only adviser-controlled wrap platform. Over the last seven years, Nucleus has become a credible player in the platform market, attracting around 15% of net wrap inflows. It is ideally placed at a time when honesty and accountability have never mattered more. David lives with his wife and daughter in Edinburgh, and enjoys dining out, live music, and following the city’s Scottish Cup-holding Heart of Midlothian FC.

Ian Beaumont - Chief Executive Officer, Matrix SolutionsIan Beaumont joined Matrix Solutions as Managing Director in December 2003. Under his leadership, Matrix has introduced a range of strategic data solutions across the financial sector. Focusing on customer intelligence and channel insight, Matrix has developed a reputation for delivering high-quality data and analysis, which empowers organisations to make informed business decisions. Ian was previously an Investment Banker at JP Morgan Chase, specialising in debt origination and syndication where he started in the graduate training programme. Ian became Chief Executive Officer in 2010 following the acquisition of Rhetorik Ltd. Ian has a first-class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bristol University and his interests include sailing, golf and tennis.

Bella Caridade-Ferreira - Director, FundscapeBella has 16 years’ experience in the research and analysis of UK, European and Asian asset management industries. Before setting up Fundscape, she worked for Lipper FMI as Global Head of Research and Publications. She was the author of numerous publications and reports, including the popular European and Asian annual Data Digests, the Asian Fund Market Almanac, and several UK-focused books including the UK Fund Platform and the Fund Market Profile - UK books. Early in her career she worked in the investment banking division of Merrill Lynch, and then for a London-based consulting firm where she specialised in market entry strategies for retail and institutional asset managers. She has a masters degree in International Business and is fluent in four languages.

Diana Mackay - Partner, MackayWilliams Diana is a recognised expert on trends in the investment fund arena, having initiated the first authoritative research on the European markets in 1990. This research included a number of unique data-gathering projects designed to assist fund management groups in developing their strategies for gathering assets. Over a period of seven years her research venture (FERI FMI) developed into a multi-million pound business, which was acquired by Thomson Reuters. She has now established a research business with Rodney Williams, which produces Fund Radar, a monthly report on industry trends. With more than 20 years’ experience in monitoring the development of fund markets, Diana has been called to the European Parliament’s deliberations on the impact of UCITS as an expert witness. She has also participated in numerous European Commission initiatives.

Financial-Clarity DashboardsAccessed via the Financial-Clarity.com website, the analytics dashboards provide easy online access to the complete array of market intelligence we collect each month. The dashboards are configured according to the licence type and specific requirements of each user, and are automatically updated with the latest figures. The dashboards are comprised of dynamic charts, graphs, tables and reports, which allow users to run the queries that are of the most strategic significance to their company. Whether you’re simply trying to find the largest-growing Intermediary firms who are showing declining sales for your firm’s products, or planning to interrogate the commercial viability of a new product in a specific UK region, then Financial-Clarity will put the information at your disposal in a simple and actionable manner.

Financial-Clarity PinpointPinpoint was launched in 2012 for Intermediary Sales and Marketing Professionals on the move. Using iPad functionality and geo-enabled location tools, our Financial-Clarity dashboards now provide dynamic mapping tools to help you plan your time out in the field. Whether you’re looking to set up a series of meetings or a sales seminar, Pinpoint helps you focus on the most significant Intermediary outlets for your business.

Marketing Fulfillment ServicesWhen Matrix Solutions was first established in 1985, a core part of our business involved the provision of direct marketing services to our Financial Services Clients. Although we’ve evolved into a business intelligence consultancy with a focus on performance benchmarking, data management and dashboard analysis, we still provide marketing fulfillment services to many of our clients. We offer everything from statement mailings through to direct and online marketing campaigns for Intermediary sales seminars. Our dedicated account handlers create email campaigns and direct mailings which are then monitored and collated on our client’s behalf. Financial-Clarity Sales Structure ToolThe latest version of our Sales Structure Tool is being unveiled during Q4 2013. Sales Directors will be able to allocate specific Financial Intermediary outlets to their teams in a flexible and intuitive way. In addition to using geography, business type and sales volumes as possible segmentation criteria, users will be able to add their own criteria to match their own particular business strategy (e.g. FSA numbers or RI numbers). Most importantly though, we’ve allowed for the creation of different sales structure scenarios which can be viewed and analysed within Financial-Clarity, to aid strategic decision-making, as well as creating more flexible layering of team structures to ensure even the most complex organisation can benefit from the application.

Financial-Clarity FastStatsWhilst our standard Financial-Clarity dashboards permit easy interrogation of sales figures and market trend information, we also offer some of our larger clients a more advanced analytical system known as Financial-Clarity FastStats. The FastStats system appeals to clients with in-house data analytics teams. Key features of FastStats include the ability to identify your most likely prospects, based on their statistical relevance to your existing customers. You can also plan and execute marketing campaigns that will achieve the maximum response rates and overall profitability, based on proven and well-respected statistical modelling techniques. Financial-Clarity InternationalFinancial-Clarity International was launched at the start of 2013 to meet a growing appetite among international asset management companies to understand the net flows of their funds across various international borders. In January 2013 we hosted a launch event to over 20 international asset management companies and began collecting cross-border transaction data to use in an international version of the product. Nine months on and we are ready to launch the first release of the data to a closed group of users who will benefit enormously from the unprecedented granularity of data we have made available to them in our new dashboards.

Branded Adviser Search ToolWe have operated our own online adviser search website since 2006. MyLocalAdviser.co.uk enjoys over 500,000 searches annually from members of the public looking for financial advice in their area. Whilst the website provides a vital source of intermediary market intelligence, we evolved the product at the start of 2013 to allow our clients to white-label our search database and integrate the tool into their own website, allowing their own clients to search for advisers offering their products. This has proved an extremely popular and effective project and we anticipate working with several new clients over the coming months.

About the Venues

The ShardThe Shard is an extraordinary London landmark. Standing 87 storeys tall, building began in March 2009 on the site of the former Southwark Towers beside London Bridge railway station. The glass-clad pyramidal tower has 72 habitable floors and an open-air observation deck at a height of 244.3 metres. It was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano and was developed by Sellar Property on behalf of LBQ Ltd. The Aqua-Shard restaurant complex on the 31st and 32nd floors provides the perfect venue for our 5th annual seminar. The 31st floor comprises a bar and restaurant area; the 32nd floor comprises the Hutong restaurant, already being referred to by critics as one of the finest Chinese restaurants in London. The Hutong restaurant is divided into two parts: Hutong Shanghai and Hutong Beijing. It provides spectacular views of the financial district and the rest of London, and offers an international context to the expanding boundaries of our Financial-Clarity product.

The George HotelThe George Hotel is an award-winning luxury hotel and conference venue in the heart of historic Edinburgh. It won the prestigious title of ‘Best Hotel in Edinburgh’ in 2011. Originally built in 1775, this grade II listed building is one of the oldest hotels in the city. It has recently been refurbished to the highest-possible standards, and contains the award-winning Tempus Bar and Restaurant.

The hotel is within easy reach of rail and air links, and is also close to the city’s business district and a plethora of local attractions including the castle, Princess Street Gardens, and Holyrood Palace.
