INTRODUCTION• The United States is technologically advanced.

• Half of the world’s population lives in rural and remote regions.

• These areas struggle to provide health care to residents.

• The majority of health care professionals live in urban areas.

• Telemedicine is the answer to providing care to rural and remote regions.

BACKGROUND• We use electronics in just about every facet of

our lives.

• Not only is it all around us, it progresses so fast that we can barely keep up with the new applications.

• We use social sites such as Facebook and Twitter to keep up with friends and co-workers.

• Telemedicine offers an electronic and technical way to keep up with our health status.

BACKGROUND• Telemedicine first used by NASA.

• NASA used it to get biometrics on astronauts while they were in space.

• Data was transmitted back to Earth.

• The term “telemedicine” was coined in the 1970s.

• Analog signal change to digital provides faster way of transmitting information.
