Make sure you do the National Student Survey (NSS)

What is the National Student Survey ?

• Annual survey of final year undergraduates across the UK

• Commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council for England on behalf of all the funding bodies and fully supported by the National Union of Students

• Conducted by Ipsos MORI

• Quick and easy to complete

How are the results used?

• Data and comments are used by the university and the Students’ Union to improve the student experience. The data helps us identify areas where we are doing well, as well as areas for improvement, so improving the student experience for future students

• The NSS results are made available at Unistats.com to help future students make informed decisions of where and what to study

Results from NSS 2010

• For instance, results from the NSS 2010 suggested you were dissatisfied with assessment and feedback

• So we redesigned assessment feedback sheets to highlight strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement

• So we made a commitment to hold student-staff meetings to enable us to understand your needs and to give us an opportunity to tell you what we are doing in response

How to take part

• Ipsos MORI will send you an email during the week of 17 January to invite you to take part in the survey

• You can complete the survey at www.thestudentsurvey.com

• Your responses to the survey are anonymous

• Ipsos MORI may call you to ask you to complete the survey. Once you have completed the survey then Ipsos MORI will not contact you

• The survey ends 30 April

Why should you complete the NSS?

• It is your chance to tell us about your experience at university

• You will be helping us to improve the student experience at the University of Brighton
