Research from lead thinkersResearch from lead thinkers

Jimmy Wells and Larry Sanger creators of Wikipedia

Binbin Zheng and Xiuli Zhuang studied the effects of wikis in collaboration. They found that wiki technology is a form of a new learning style that is causing problems for traditional learners.

DevelopmentDevelopment

Some problems that were experienced during development were overcome by Providing managers of wikis to regulate user

access Technologies for a print version of wikis is

improving SPAM and vandalism can be avoided by

requiring a login to access the wiki, this allows for the use of automated spam bots

Persuasion-Persuasion-

With the Invitation To The Pattern List being published, Portland Pattern Repository heard of wiki and saw it as a way to collaborate.

Implementation-Implementation-

Portland Pattern Repository in May 1995 was the first to make the decision to utilize a wiki. Immediately popular due to the increased

accessibility of the Internet and a group that were knowledgeable in the web and interested in pattern language.

This wiki is still in use today.

Critical Mass of WikisCritical Mass of Wikis

How can critical mass be reached? In education I have found that to have universal

adoption of a new technology it is best to get leaders in the schools on board that will use their influence to persuade others to adopt new ways of doing tasks.

Implying that wikis will eventually be required would persuade some to adopt faster so that they will be ready and knowledgeable when wide spread adoption is not an option.
