    INTRODUCTION TO SCADA

A system that collects data from various sensors at a factory, plant or

in other remote locations and then sends this data to a central

computer which then manages and controls the data .

    10/34

    DATA ACQUISITION

It is the process of collecting data from the equipment through RTUs.

Data includes meter reading and equipment status that transmit tocontrol operator through communication media in such a way that a

control room operator can make supervisory decisions on it.

    POWER SYSTEM SUPERVISION

Power system supervision is carried out by the operator throughacquired data from data acquisition process.

    POWER SYSTEM CONTROL

It refers to send signals to device in order to operate the instrumentation

and control (I & C).For example: Closing and tripping of switch gears, tap changing of

    transformers etc

    16/34

    MONTORING

Master station monitors overall power system behavior. It sends andreceives signal to and from RTUs and thus handling a system effectively.

    DATA ACQUISITION

Data acquisition is accomplishes by means of CTs, PTs, transducers etc. Inshort we can say Ability to get various information from the field by

    some means.

    18/34

    ALARM

SCADA system process the collected data and alerts the control center tooperate immediately if an alarm signal is detected.

  • 8/8/2019 Final Scada

    19/34

    DATA LOGGING

Data logging is performed on cyclic basis. Data logging is initiated if anydata changes. For E.g. if certain file size, time period is reached then data

    will be overwritten.

    CONTROL OF PRODUCTION

Control of production is accomplishes by mean of AGS (automaticgeneration control) in order to make the system frequency within a safe

    limit.

    DATA DISPLAY

For display purpose CRT is used in control room. It provides theinformation to the operator about system parameters whenever he

    wants.
