Congratulations! You’ve been commissioned by the City of Charlotte to

Design a free-standing abstract sculpture

for HISTORIC FREEDOM PARK!

The mayor of Charlotte is looking to install a 30 foot sculpture somewhere within the park.

You, the artist, will create a 10 inch prototype of the aforementioned sculpture.

Your design must somehow tie in to the park’s history and/or surrounding elements. Furthermore, IT NEEDS TO BE ABSTRACT!

While your design must be abstract, it may possess some representational qualities. The overall shape of the sculpture, or some of its internal features, may mimic specific elements relating to the park and/or its history.

Examples

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:-Thumbnail design of front, back, and side, along with an itemized account for how you intend on building your prototype.

-10” high

-Abstract

-Represent the essence of the park OR a specific spot within.

-May use ANY sculpting and/or hand-building method(s) you wish in order to make your design a success.

-Be prepared to discuss, during class critique, WHERE within the park you chose your design to inhabit, and WHAT inspired your design to look the way it does.
