11th International Symposium on Dendritic Cells in Fundamental and Clinical Immunology

  • 2 1

Dear Colleagues,It is a pleasure to invite you to the 11th International Symposium on Dendritic Cells in Fundamental and Clinical Immunology DC2010: Forum on Vaccine Science to be held in Lugano, Switzerland from the 26th to 30th of September, 2010.

Dendritic Cells are central to the control of the bodys self-tolerance and defense and provide a powerful means to manipulate immune function. Our knowledge in the field has increased dramatically in the past decade to encompass broad areas of basic and clinical research. We are confi-dent that the Dendritic Cell Community, after many years of exceptional progress, is ready to enter specific areas of application. For this reason the 11th International Symposium on Dendritic Cells will focus on a specific topic: Vaccine Science.

The objective of DC2010: Forum on Vaccine Science is to foster vaccine research and its translation into preventive and therapeutic vaccines in infectious and autoimmune diseases, cancer and transplantation. DC2010: Forum on Vaccine Science will feature Plenary and Forum sessions with lectures by leaders in the field and Poster sessions for poster presentations, discussion and sharing ideas. Ample opportunity will be given to visit exhi-bitors and to network with colleagues.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine will be hosting this conference in Lugano together with the Swiss Vaccine Research Institute. Lugano is a beautiful town at the southernmost tip of Switzerland in the Italian-speaking region of Ticino. Only 40 minutes from Milan, Lugano offers spectacular na-tural surroundings at the foot of the Alps and in the midst of the Lake district.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Lugano.

The International Society for Dendritic Cell and Vaccine Science In occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the International Symposium on Dendritic Cells, the meeting in Lugano will officially launch the International Society for Dendritic Cell and Vaccine Science. The mission of this web-based society is to bridge dendritic cell and vaccine science, and toshare information and other resources to stimulate and facilitate these fields in the settings of infectious and noninfectious diseases such as cancer, allergy and autoinflammatory conditions. The operation of the society will be guided by an Executive Committee headed by Ralph M. Steinman, who discovered dendritic cells in 1973, and by an international committee of recognized leaders from academia and industry. Scientists from 45 countries will be invited to be founding members of the society. More information on the society and on how to become a member will be soon available at the DC2010 website. www.dc2010.ch
