The hackett Award lecture by Dr. Theodore Stern and the research Award lecture by Dr. Kurt Kroenke will be highlights. The Awards & Fellowship Convocation luncheon will provide an opportunity to recognize colleagues’ contributions to our specialty. A special lecture on the “Imagery of Suicide: From the Trojan War to the 20th Century” will be given by Dr. James C. harris who selects the art for the covers of Archives of General Psychiatry.

Kurt Kroenke, MD, is Professor of Medicine, Division of general internal Medicine and geriatrics, indiana university, and research Scientist in the regenstrief institute. he is a past President of the Society of general internal Medicine, immediate Past-President of the Association for Clinical research training, a past Council member of the Association of Subspecialty Professors, and a Master in the American College of Physicians (MACP). his principal research interests include physical and psycho-logical symptoms in medical patients including pain, depression, anxiety and somatization. he co-developed the PriMe-MD Patient health Questionnaire (PhQ), which has become a widely-used clinical and research measure for diagnosing and monitoring common mental disorders in primary care. he was a member of the MacArthur Foundation Steering Committee on Depression in Primary Care, and has served on the national institute of Mental health (niMh) Services research initial review group.

Theodore Stern, MD, FAPM

Dr. theodore A. Stern is a Professor of Psychiatry at the harvard Medical School and Chief of the Avery D. weisman, MD, Psychiatry Consultation Service at Massachusetts general hospital (Mgh.) For more than 30 years he has focused his efforts at the interface of medicine and psychiatry (and especially on the care of the critically ill), as a clinician, clinical researcher, and teacher. he has mentored and taught hundreds of medical and psychiatric residents and fellows, and thousands of internists and primary care physicians. Dr. Stern has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and book chap-ters, been the author or lead editor of 16 textbooks, and a reviewer for more than 30 journals and on the editorial boards of seven journals. he is a Fellow of both the APA and APM, and was APM president 2003-2004. on January 1, 2008, he became editor-in-chief of Psychosomatics.
