THIS WEEK we get an insight from editor of W.H.M and how he came up with the first issue. Ashley Stapleton has grown up doing media and want-

ed to base his future career around and in this industry, a quote from him says: “When I was younger I always had a tendency to be around technology, it fascinates me. From a young age I became addicted with making movies as I love the power that movies bring, they can give the audience a range of emotion from happy to sad, laughter to scared. The thought of that makes me love doing what I do, as I grew up I never

really found a place in school, as my school didn’t do media, I never really found a subject I wanted to take to university. So when I got my place at university, I took a risk and decided to take media, even though I never really done it academically before, so it was quite a risk for me. The moment I started, I loved it, I even gave up most of my social life to do media, I always did work before the deadlines and even sometimes asked for extra work to do. When coming out of university, find-ing work in the media industry was difficult, it was in a way, impossible. If someone told me two years from then that I would own my own magazine company I would have laughed at them. But it was true after a year and a bit, I got to the point where I gave up looking for work and thought I should make my own, and so I made my draft magazine and I thought it was a success as studying media and knowing what the target audience wants helped me so much and from then, with the help of the bank I payed for all the copyright material etc and the magazine has been a success.” Since then W.H.M has gained much profit last year after breaking even two years ago. This is a huge success for a small company run but a team of roughly 20 peo-ple and will continue to grow from this small team into hopefully making a maga-zine well known enough to get many up coming artists to feature in the magazine.

Mets is a rap enthusiast who has recently taken his career to another level, his new debut song “Hear Me Tho” has taken a shine to many websites and

critics which has made him a YouTube sensation. We had an interview with “Mets” to talk about his new career path. Here are some of the questions we asked him...

Tell us a bit about yourself

Well, music has always been my natural talent, growing up in Lon-don, I never went out much and so I stayed home and just surfed the net for music I like, at first the thought of rapping sounded crazy as I never thought I had it in me but one day my friend over heard me and said I should give it ago, and so I did. I then entered com-petitions on radio stations and I seemed to be getting a good re-action from the listeners and so I formed a fairly decent fan base, before I know it people were contacting me to do local gigs here and there. Then one day I got asked to battle someone in lord of the mics, and from the reaction people gave, it seemed as if I won and so 679 record label contacted me and so I to signed. Ever since, I’ve been getting bigger and bigger in the music industry.

How did you come up with your name?

Well the stage name ‘Mets’ was just my name but shorter, my previous stage name was in fact ‘Kid aggey’ but I thought it doesn’t really express who I really am, although my music can be serious at times, I can take a joke and have fun and take pride in what I do.

What inspired you on your new album?

Well I got inspired by many things, I often tend to observe my sur-

rounding as the lyrics from many of my songs are about everyday things, and my latest song “2012” was about all the talk of the “supposed” end of the world. It is a song that took a lot of thought and meaning, and the talk about it being the end of the world became my topic of my song and.

Where did your love of music come from?

Well when I was 7 my dad bought me an Eminem album which once I heard, I instantly fell in love with how he raps and so I got on YouTube and searched for similar artists and my love for music just grew and grew, at an early stage I began my music career as I startedI heard, I instantly fell in love with how he raps and so I got on YouTube and searched for similar artists and my love for music just grew and grew, at an early stage I began my music career as I startedrapping to many instrumentals and thought I should try my luck and enter a radio station competition where you rap on air and you get ei-ther a clap or the sound of a toilet flushing, at first I tried and I couldn’t seem to match the beat and so I did terrible and I got ‘flushed’ but I was determined to do good and so I called and called and got them to let me have another go, this time I did well ad got the round of applause, I was ecstatic. Ever since I done this, my reputation grew and grew and my fan base formed and people started to contact me. Then I got signed at the age of 17 and released my new song“2012” which was a big success. My love for music willnever go in my opinion.

So what plans do you have for the fu-ture?

Well i shall continue doing music as this is my passion in life, to be honest i dont see myself do-ing any other job as doing music is what i enjoy and i think i am best at. Soon i shall be bringing out an album and hope that many will listen to it, i am quite excited about his as i havent formally announced that i am doing this untill now

So Brett, how did you meet Mets?

Well I once saw him rapping when doing a rapping battle with someone so I thought he’s not bad, I then checked him out on YouTube and thought he was good so I contacted him, at first he didn’t like the idea of us doing a song together but eventually as I tried proving him I’m worth it, which I did, he then came round and we made this song, at first it wasn’t any good, but over time with adding to it, it then turned out to be really good, ever since, we have done a number of songs together and have both created a really

large fan base as we get a positive response from our viewers. I am really happy as to how my career is going at the moment and couldn’t ask for anything different, recording tracks every day, and trying out different stuff and experimenting is what I love and I shall continue to do it for a long time in the future.

So, what do you have to offer, that other artists cant?

Well, that is a good question, I think my dedi-cation is the main source of my uniqueness as when I dedicate allot of hard work to my music, it often pays off and I create great music which I love doing also. Whether I am similar to other artists or not, I am not too sure as I don’t re-ally judge myself but what I can say is that I can make a create track if I have the time and equip-ment available So I can make the most of what I got as well as having the right equipment pro-vided.

So, any plans for the future?

Yes, I intend to stick to making music I love,

although I have been signed to the same label as Mets, I am not forming a group with him, but we have in fact spoke about making another song in the future. I also am going to be meeting with Skepta later on in the month to put together an idea of a new song which we might bring other artists in to it too, including Mets.

So when did you get into playing the guitar and do you play any other instru-ments?

Yes, apart from playing the guitar, I in fact play the cello and flute. Funny, I know, but from an early age I liked the sound of the cello as I had a fascination for the violin, then when I heard the cello I knew that that’s what I wanted to play, I then got into the flute from a young age too but never really enjoyed it as much as the cello or until I played the guitar. I started to play the guitar when I was around 8, as my uncle had one and when I saw him play I just became obsessed with guitars from electric to acoustic, I loved them all and wanted to try out each and every type and brand of guitars. Music is definitely a natural choice for me, both instrumental wise and vocally, I loved all kinds of music and I love the modern day twists on new songs with old instruments. When I was around 16, I decided to make a cover of a popular song on YouTube, which was called “can’t handle me” by Flo Rida, within months of uploading it I got a great response from the viewers of YouTube and then I decided to do a collaboration with myself and did the cello, the guitar and myself beat boxing which got more
