KS Klima-ServiceKS Klima-Service

In 1993, Jiří and Liana Beseda founded the KS Klima-Service Company that became an exclusive representative of the German KS Klima-Service GmbH. It started to import air filters for the Czech and Slovak markets.

In 1995, the company began its own production, first of simple filters, and then of technologically more complicated pocket filters, activated carbon filters and highly efficient HEPA filters. In order to increase its credibility and to win important orders, the KS Klima-Service a.s. joint stock company is founded in 1997.

In April 2018 the KS Klima-Service joint stock company started its operations in the premises of a new production plant at Evropská 710, 261 01 Příbram II. The premises accommodate the whole production plant, warehouses, office, customer and presentation centre with a sample hall.

During its operation the company has undergone significant changes which resulted in building a new production plant. A basic philosophy of the company founder has always been the high quality of products provided with the maximum service and customer care. The new management has taken over this philosophy and successfully applied and developed it until the present.

The company management focuses on the long-term strategy of KS Klima-Service, a.s. in the field of development, growth and strengthening the reputation of the company on the Czech as well as foreign markets in the field of the production of filters and filtration equipment. Sufficient production and warehouse areas in the new and modern production plant contributed especially to an improvement of customer comfort and working conditions of employees.

Mission Through its modern and responsible way of management, the KS Klima-Service joint stock company intends to provide its customers the best services in the field of development, production and deliveries of air filters and filtration equipment. Our aim and mission is to manufacture products that protect human health, form part of modern production technologies and at the same time the strictest ecological and environmental regulations.

PM is derived from two English words particulate matter. In the Czech Republic, the terms of particles, suspended particles or aerosol particles are widely used, but the lay public simply uses the term of dustiness although it does not mean only “dust”. All such particles hazardous to human health are classified in various PM classes, divided as follows: PM 1 (aerodynamic diameter ≤ 1 µm), PM 2.5 (≤ 2.5 µm) and PM 10 (≤ 10 µm).

What does PM1 mean? It means that it is a particle with a diameter smaller than 1 micron (thousandth of millimetre).

1 µm = 0.001 mm = PM 12.5 µm = 0.0025 mm = PM 2.510 µm = 0.01 mm = PM 10

PM 10 (≤ 10 µm)Dust, pollen, moulds

Human hair(50–70 µm)

PM 1 (≤ 1 µm)Mist, carbon black, tobacco smoke

PM 2.5 (≤ 2,5 µm)Exhaust gas particles, organic particles

ISO 16890 – new global standard for testing and classification of filters

WHO (the World Health Organization) has initiated studies which examined effects of fine dust on human health. Results of these studies showed a clear outcome that the current polluted air, and especially small particles in the air, are harmful to health and contribute to the origin of fatal diseases of blood circulation and respiratory tract. Each of the WHO member states voted unambiguously for this new standard.

PM 10 (≤ 10 µm)Upper respiratory tract – coarser particles (pollen and dust)

PM 2.5 (≤ 2.5 µm)Lower respiratory tract – finer particles (bacteria, mould spores)

PM 1 (≤ 1 µm)Alveoli, or blood circulation – ultra-fine particles (viruses, combustion particles)

Influence of individual particles on the organismPM 1 (≤ 1 µm)For example, this is a size of viruses and combustion particles – they belong among the worst ones for the human organism because they can get to blood circulation and alveoli and remain deposited there.

PM 2.5 (≤ 2.5 µm)For example, this is a size of bacteria and spores of moulds – they can get to the lower respiratory tract.

PM 10 (≤ 10 µm)For example, this is a size of pollen and dust – they can get to the upper respiratory tract.

Fine dust with a particle size of PM 10 can enter deeper areas of human trachea through the nasal cavity. Smaller particles with a particle size of PM 2.5 can even get to bronchi and alveoli. Highly fine particles with a particle size below 0.1 µm can even get to the lung tissue and blood circulation.

The effects of fine dust on health differs depending on the size and depth of ingress of the particles. These effects range from non-harmful diseases, such as irritation and inflammations of mucosa and a localised

throat inflammation to increased plaque formation in arteries, thrombophilia or changes in the nervous system regulatory function.

This shows the main difference between the old EN 779:2012 and the new ISO 16890 standards. EN 779 did not consider fine particles contained in the air and assessed a filter efficiency at the particle size of 0.4 µm.

However, this did not correspond to real requirements. ISO 16890 distinguishes three particle sizes in areas of efficiency, therefore it is closer to reality. The classification of filters according to this standard reflects the filter efficiency in real operation better.

Advantages compared to EN779• One global international standard• Measurement range in particle sizes from

0.3 µm to 10 µm, unlike the sizes from 0.4 µm in EN779

• Filters can be better selected according to specific requirements

FILTER MEDIAA wide range of special filter media from polyurethane, synthetic and glass fibres for pre-filtration and main filtration in HVAC units. The filter media are supplied in rolls or cut as required.Filter media from polyurethane are highly resistant to humidity and fully renewable. The structure of the KS PPI filter media (soft foamy matter) is resistant to stress and facilitates exceptionally high air intake flow rates at low pressure dropes.

Filter media from synthetic fibre consist of randomly arranged twisted non-woven fibres of varying thickness, reinforced with a plastic binder (or thermally) into a solid and stable filter fleece. They are used as pre-filters or 1st stage filters in air-conditioning and ventilation units. They are used for filtering coarse and fine dust particles.

Glass-fibre filter media consist of elastic, twisted, randomly arranged glass fibres fixed. As the thickness of the fibre decreases, the filter media gets thicker and finer on the clean air side. This is to achieve a high degree of separation and huge dust

accumulation ability. Some media are saturated with a non-harmful dust binding agent in order to achieve better binding and separation of particles.

Floor filters from recycled paper for separation of paint drops during spraying. The Venturi effect combined with changes in flow of air containing paint particles provide a highly efficient protection. All types consist of two fanfold cardboards. Openings in the front panel are placed asymmetrically against openings in the back panel. When air is passing through the filter, the flow changes in all the three axes. Separated liquid particles are isolated in pockets formed in the back panel with deeper “V” folds. They are used independently or as pre-filters in multi-stage filtration systems of exhaust equipment in paint shops.

Filter propertiesThe medium is highly resistant to humidity and fully recoverable. The structure of the PPI is resistant to stress and facilitates exceptionally high air intake flow rates at low pressure dropes. PPI media are reticulated PU foams. The network structure is fully open and does not contain any closed cells. This is achieved during the thermal reticulation process (netting, meshing, cracking, corrugation) when all the cell membranes left after foaming break and merge with cell lamellas.

Filter propertiesThe filter is made with a filter media from glass fibres randomly arranged with high elasticity and low compressibility. This unique, elastic structure of the medium provides high absorbing capacity of the filter and encourages the operating safety of mounted filters. The medium contains also a special binder that binds excess paint containing a high portion of water component. The striking purple colour of the medium is the "dirty air side", i.e. the inlet side. This is how the filter should be mounted correctly.

Field of applicationThe VS LAK filter is most often used in the first filtration stage and it captures aerosols of excess paint (so-called paint fog), including dry paint or varnish particles.

Filter propertiesProtective filter for capturing of paint drops during spraying. The Venturi effect combined with changes in flow of air containing paint particles provide a highly efficient protection. All types consist of two fanfold cardboards. Openings in the front panel are placed asymmetrically against openings in the back panel. When air is passing through the filter, the flow changes in all the three axes. Separated liquid particles are isolated in pockets formed in the back panel with deeper V folds.

Field of applicationThey are used independently or as pre-filters in multi-stage filtration systems of exhaust equipment in paint shops.

POCKET FILTERSPocket filters are still the most used type of filters in all HVAC units. The name "pocket filter" is derived from its basic structural element, the pocket. The conic shape of pockets gives the best properties to the filter, it allows to use 100% of the filter area and to decrease the total pressure drop of the pocket filter. The new design of pocket filters with conic pockets guaranties energy costs savings thanks to lower pressure dropes and longer service life of the filter.

Pocket filters are manufactured in numerous alternative designs. The efficiency of ISO COARSE is up to ISO ePM1 according to ISO 16890. The basic structural element of the filter is the filter medium. The most commonly used medium is a synthetic medium. Another possibility is a glass fibre medium or a specially adapted medium for potentially explosive atmospheres. Pocket filters with an absorption medium may be used in environments where it is necessary to remove odours.

Development of filter media for atmospheric dust brings new solutions, e.g. nanofibres media, media with low pressure dropes, media with high absorbing capacity, media with antibacterial treatment.

The pocket filter frame is also made in various designs. The most common ones are made of plastic or zinc-coated. Another possibility is a stainless steel version of the frame. Pocket filter separators are made entirely from plastic, wood or zinc-coated.

The range of sizes and design variants of pocket filters is almost unlimited which makes them suitable for use in HVAC equipment, both in older units and in new, modern air filtration equipment. They are suitable for e.g. food-processing, chemical, pharmaceutical industry, electric power plants, painting boxes, hospitals, offices, hotels and other premises.

Filter propertiesKS PAK PREMIUM is a highly efficient filter made of a new multi-layer filter medium which enables, by its arrangement, up to double absorption capacity compared to commonly used synthetic filter media. A special design of the media increases the filter area by 2.4 times. For example, a pocket filter in the F7 filtration class with a size of 592 × 592 × 635 mm / 8 pockets has a standard filter area of approximately 6.2 m2, while the KS PAK PREMIUM filter using the new filter medium has a filter area of approximately 14.8 m2.

Field of applicationThe new KS PAK PREMIUM pocket filter is developed especially for capturing fine dust and aerosols at the inlets of air into office buildings, industrial halls, painting lines, and it is also used as a preliminary filter of HVAC units for health-care facilities, clean rooms and pharmaceutical facilities. The KS PAK PREMIUM filters are ideal for applications requiring high flow rate, long service life and excellent separability. The unique design of the filter allows significant decreasing of initial pressure dropes, resulting in very low energy costs of the filter at full load.

FRAME FILTERSFrame filters are very variable and, for their low depth, they are often a solution in limited spaces. The filter medium of frame filters may be made from both synthetic and glass fibre media. Another variant is an aluminium intertwined medium or a polypropylene medium.

The polypropylene filter medium is 100% hydrophobic and contains a mixture of polypropylene and other polymers specially mixed to achieve higher strength in comparison with traditional materials.

The filter frame is made from a waterproof cardboard, zinc-coated metal, stainless steel or plastic.

The most suitable variant of the separator is looked for in order to strengthen and increase stability of the frame filter. In order to strengthen the filter, the all-cardboard design uses cardboard grids covering the whole surface. This variant is the most common and the most demanded.

In some filters, the medium is normally sealed in the frame using a hot-melt system. Some types of frame filters are recoverable. They are used in particular in ventilation and air-conditioning of production halls, office and assembly rooms, telecommunication centres, health facilities, airport terminals.

Filter propertiesFrame filters KS MPS use a filter medium made of the glass fibre sub-micron paper. Thick, multi-layered arrangement of the filtering fibres provides the filter medium with optimal characteristics for particle separation. The unique properties of this filter medium are also guaranteed by automated production where the medium is folded using the “mini-pleat” system, which guarantees an optimum air flow distribution and low pressure dropes. These parameters of the filter significantly affect savings in energy costs during the filter operation in HVAC units. The filter medium is mounted into a solid plastic, zinc-plated or cardboard frame and sealed using a "hot-melt" system; the MDF design upon request.

Field of applicationFor separation of coarse and fine dust in social areas, restaurants, health facilities and laboratories, in the electrical engineering industry, telecommunication exchanges, control centres and airports.

MaterialPapers from fine glass microfibres of various separation or penetration levels are used as filter media. The filter medium is folded into a pleat

and the number and height of folds is optimally dimensioned for operating conditions. Separators consist of a melt adhesive, which provides high stability of the entire filter element.

Waste disposalLandfilling or incineration in authorised incineration plants.

COMPACT FILTERSCompact filter elements represent a modern and efficient solution of fine dust separation. The compact filter is made of a robust plastic frame with minipleat filter pleats sealed inside. The unique structure of the filter allows to decrease significantly initial pressure dropes. The filter has very low energy costs at full load.

The standard compact filters are suitable for use in all common mounting frames for pocket filters. All the filter parameters comply with requirements of ISO 16890 and EN 1822. The all-plastic design allows for smooth disposal – the filter is fully combustible. It is best suited for use in all air-conditioning and ventilation devices as final-filters or pre-filters and as microparticle filters. It may be used in normal, as well as in special conditions with higher service life, safety, variability and thermal resistance requirements.

The TMP and TMPC compact filters separate air impurities in air intake systems of rotary compressors and offer a perfect protection against pollution, corrosion and erosion of key turbine components. TMP filters are most suited for use in gas turbines, diesel units, compressors and air-conditioning devices in power plants, because they feature low pressure dropes and long service life. Combined with the range of synthetic fibre pocket filters, they offer an optimum ratio of separation level to service life at the lowest pressure dropes.

The compact filters are supplied in the three designs: KS FP V3 and FP V4 with the efficiency of ePM10 75% to ePM1 80% and KS FP E10 – H13.

A special design of the KS TMP and KS TMPC filters is offered in filtration classes from E10.

ABSOLUTE FILTERS FOR MICROPARTICLESThe absolute filters for microparticles in filtration classes E10 – H14 and U15 – U17 are used in intake, circulating and exhaust air devices with the highest air cleanliness and sterility requirements. By using ultra-soft glass microfibres and precise folding, the EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters achieve high submicron particles separation capacities and guarantee a controlled air flow (laminar flow).

The frame for different types of EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters may be made from aluminium, multi-layer wood, MDF, stainless sheet metal or zinc-coated sheet metal.

Separators of EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters are made using the so-called MINIPLEAT technology, when separators consist of a thermally processed melt adhesive. In special cases, the technology of inserted aluminium separators is used too.

Seals of EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters is from a special section made from EPDM sponge rubber with closed surface. Form of the seal: flat, semi-circular, double-edged.

EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters are used in a wide range of applications. They are used in industrial processes (microelectronics, pharmaceutical industry, food-processing industry, health care, optics, microbiology, etc.) – operating rooms and hospitals, clean work tables (laminar flow boxes) – ceiling outlets (extensions for clean rooms) and so-called fan filter units – treatment of hazardous substances such as asbestos, heavy metals and carcinogenic dusts – nuclear energy plants and nuclear research, etc. Hepa filters are manufactured in several variants: KS BESTFIL, Ultrafilter N.

Filter frameThe standard frame (hardened hydrophobic MDF); zinc-coated sheet metal, multilayer wooden board, plastics, aluminium or stainless steel if requested.

SeparatorsSeparators are made using the so-called MINIPLEAT technology, when separators consist of a thermally processed melt adhesive. In special cases, the technology of inserted aluminium separators may be used too.

Sealing of the filter pleat in the frameTwo-component polyurethane sealant.

SealsA special section from EPDM sponge rubber with closed surface. Form and type of the seal: flat, semi-circular, double-edged, gel.

Field of applicationKS Bestfil are used in areas with the highest demands for air cleanliness. They are mainly used in installations in inlet ceilings and walls of clean rooms with a discharge flow with low turbulence as well as in clean desks and work booths.

Typical areas of application: microelectronics, production of semi-conductors, medicine, chemistry, pharmaceutical industry, microbiology, production of films and magnetic tapes, production of compact discs, laboratories and food industry.

ConstructionPapers from fine glass microfibres of various separation or penetration levels are used as filter media. The filter medium is folded into a pleat and the number and height of folds is optimally dimensioned for operating conditions. Separators consist of a melt adhesive, which provides high stability of the entire filter element. The pleat is tightly sealed with polyurethane to a stable frame. To safely seal the filter element to the fastening structure, there is an endless seal on the filter inlet side.

DimensioningTo satisfy market requirements, filter media are tested at a test stand. Using this device, it is possible to select an optimum medium for every type of filter and case of deployment from the wide range of filter media offered in the market, and at the same time to determine its penetration as a function of the particle size or air flow rate through the medium (diagram 1 and 2). In this way, our Company can measure the achieved threshold values for the specific case of use and adequately dimension the filters.

Diagram 1 shows that every filter medium shows a clear penetration maximum. The particle diameter is identified as MPPS (Most Penetrating Particle Size). The position of the penetration maximum is a function of a particle and fibre diameter, air flow rate through the medium, a thickness of medium and density of folds. Integral and local penetration values of all KS Bestfil filters are dimensioned with regard to MPPS, and therefore they meet the requirements of EN 1822 by their entire range.

Pre-filters to KS Bestfil filtersThe separation of larger particles prolongs the service life of KS Bestfil filters. We recommend two-stage pre-filtration, i.e. pocket filters KS PAK 35 – 55 as stage 1 and fine dust particle filters KS FP V3 or KS PAK 85 and KS PAK 98 as stage 2.

Quality, defectoscopy, SCAN TEST*All filters are tested by an oil thread leak test for faultlessness, Scantest with a test certificate for an extra charge. (* SCAN TEST = computer controlled test of the filter medium with a laser particle counter.)

For filters of classes H13 and H14• Statistic check of filtration-technical data on finished

products and materials.• Visual check of the finished product before packing.

Test scope: 100%.• Test of absence of leakage according to EN 1822-4,

Annex A, so-called oil-thread leak test.• Factory test certificate according to EN 10204-2.2

65

The Scantest provides quality assurance and testing methods for filters as follows: a computer-controlled filter medium test and an automated acceptance test of finished filters at the test stand with a laser particle counter working in parallel (the lower measurement limit of 0.1 µm) proves characteristics of the filter – a separation level, leak-proof property and a pressure drop – at the rated volume air flow. In addition to the integral, the cleanliness class corresponding to the maximum local penetration (= penetration at a place of a defect) is therefore guaranteed, and both characteristics are measured according to EN 1822 for MPPS. All measured filter characteristics are documented in a factory test certificate according to EN 10204-2.2 and individual measurement reports. Quality assurance at this level prevents uncertainty and problems in an equipment assessment by the scantest and it is a significant prerequisite for the success of a project with high demands for cleanliness and safety (e.g. in the pharmaceutical industry and microelectronics).

Waste disposalIncineration in appropriate incinerators.

Advantages of KS Klima-Service• 100% proper production of KS BESTFIL• own automatic folding of medium with parameters

set according to the customer's requirements• automatic sealing of the filter pleat into the frame

using polyurethane sealant• automatic application of the sealant on the intake

and outlet sides of the filter according to the customer's requirements

Comprehensive solutionWe offer comprehensive systems from designing the project to implementation and subsequent maintenance.

Fields of applicationThese solutions can be used to filter atmospheric dust, gaseous pollutants or a combination thereof such as paint shops or assembly lines in the automotive industry.

Extracted painting wallsThe concept is the classic extracted painting wall complemented by multi-stage filtration and an air supply unit. The painting wall is modular and is available in working lengths from 1,000 mm and a working height of 1,000 or 2,000 mm.

Extracted painting desksWe also offer painting desks for smaller plants. These units do not include an air supply unit. The advantage of these units, however, is the possibility of ordering without installation. You can install them yourself and save costs.

Methods of filtrationAll unit types are equipped with 2-stage filtration with the possibility of installing carbon filters for gaseous pollutants. The first filtration stage is used to collect most of the excess paint. This filter is replaced most often. It is a folded paper filter. The second filtration stage collects the remaining particles that pass through the paper filter. The third stage consists of a fine dust filter and the fourth stage consists of carbon cartridges. Carbon filtration is used to separate odours and harmful substances from paints with organic solvents. Water-based paints do not require carbon filtration.

KS Extensions for Clean RoomsComponents for clean rooms

Delivery options

6 standard sizes, possibility to adapt to the customer's requirementsAbsolute filters used

KS BESTFIL as standard

FeaturesKS clean extensions for clean rooms are air diffusers with integrated absolute filters for microparticles. The outlets are used for air filtration and distribution. Separation of microparticles, bacteria and viruses takes place immediately before entry into the clean room. The extensions are supplied as ceiling and wall-mounted.

The KS extensions for clean rooms include a test groove enabling measurement of tightness of mounting of the filter and a connection for pressure measurement. The air is supplied through round connecting mouths into which it is possible to mount air-tight shutting flaps.

• Design of extensions for clean rooms enables air filtration and distribution of the filtered air

• Viruses, bacteria and dust particles are filtered from the air stream immediately before the outlet of air which eliminates risks connected with a central filtration system, such as cross contamination in ventilation pipelines

End outlets used:Perforated sheet metal, diffuser, whirl outlet.

The KS extensions for clean rooms are ideal for use everywhere where clean air or air free of germs is needed, e.g.:

• Hospitals: operating rooms and infirmaries, intensive care units, sterile zones and isolation wards

• Industry: ecologically clean production plants in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food-processing, optical and electronics industry

• Laboratories: clean rooms and work areas, clean air supply and filtration of toxic or harmful aerosols

FILTER UNITS FOR HVAC PIPELINESThe design of the special filtration equipment for use in HVAC pipelines is adapted for an easy integration into the pipeline system. Its structure is solid and stable and manipulation is very easy. One KS BK may integrate even a multi-stage filtration from filtration class ISO COARSE – H13. The KS BK filtration equipment comes in dimensions range for air flow rates from 800 m3/h to 40,800 m3/h. The KS BK filtration equipment can be combined with other equipment to achieve higher air flows. We offer complex services, from designing of the equipment to its installation.

The KS BK filter units are used when it is necessary to use pocket and compact filters, filter elements and compact filters with activated carbon at the same time. They may be used for air supply into telecommunication central offices, hospitals, pharmaceutical and electrical engineering plants, etc.

In case of high cleanliness demands, we supply chambers in hygienic quality in filtration classes up to H13.

The NG channel filter units are stable units suitable in particular for areas with the need of supply of up to 12,000 m3/h of absolutely filtered air. Due to the possibility to assemble the units quickly and easily into variable sizes, they offer the possibility to use many types of KS filters.

A two-phase combination of filters consists of a KS FP filter for dust particles and a KS AFP adsorption filter for suppression of gases. They are mounted together into KS RS type mounting frames designed for this purpose. Both filter elements are placed one to another by flange sides and they are attached together into the KS RS mounting frame.

ADSORPTION FILTERS WITH ACTIVATED CARBONActivated carbon is used to adsorb odours and harmful gaseous impurities from air whose toxicity and smell are now a big burden for the environment and may be harmful for the humans, animals and plants. Activated carbon is used in air-conditioning, ventilating and special filtration equipment to clean the inlet, circulating and waste air.

In most cases, activated carbon is added to filter cartridges that are manufactured in both standard and atypical designs. Filter cartridges are made from zinc-coated sheet metal, stainless steel or anodised.

Our range of filter units KS BD and KS BD BIG offers variable sizes depending on a concrete technical solution. A special equipment for hydrogen sulfide elimination is a unique solution for water treatment plants. All the filtration devices with activated carbon are turnkey solutions delivered from design to assembly of the equipment.

Compact filters with various types of adsorption media containing non-impregnated or impregnated activated carbon are also used for elimination of odours and harmful gases. They are used in case of low concentrations (e.g. laboratories, specialised chemical establishments, etc.)

Dimensions ranges

KS KOPA 450 KS KOPA 625 KS KOPA BIG filter cartridgesPossibility of regenerationYes

Filter propertiesThe KS KOPA filter system consists of a mounting frame and filter cartridges filled with activated carbon. The filter cartridge consists of two cylinders of different diameters made from a special perforated sheet metal. The intermediate space formed by the difference of diameters determines the width of the activated carbon layer. Activated carbon is optimally filled into this intermediate space on a shaking machine. The closed cartridge has a gasket that ensures a gas-tight mounting in the base frame. The cartridges are fixed to the base frame by three special clamping bolts through a bayonet closure and forms a stable filter unit. KS RAP frames are used to mount KS KOPA 450 and KS KOPA 625. The KS KOPA-BIG type cartridges are used for high flow rates.

Field of applicationExhaust equipment in paint shops, removal of odours from kitchens and barbecue grills, adsorption of kerosene in airport terminal buildings, welding operations exhaust equipment, adsorption of harmful substances from soldering, industrial harmful substances from the chemical and electrical engineering industry, smog gases, nuclear power plants.

SULOFF desulphurisation unitSpecial applications

SULOFF desulphurisation unit

Removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from biogas; technology developed in cooperation with the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague

Unit descriptionCleaning takes place in an adsorption apparatus with a fixed bed through which biogas is flowing. The cylindrical stand of the adsorption apparatus is made of corrosion-proof steel with an opening in the upper part for filling with sorbent. for the purpose of gas inlet, the adsorption apparatus is equipped with the inlet pipeline with a standardised connecting flange. The adsorption apparatus is installed on a concrete bed with its supporting feet anchored to it. On its outer side, the adsorption apparatus is insulated with mineral and glass wool with a thickness of 100 mm – in the aluminium jacket covering the whole adsorption apparatus.

SorbentThe adsorption is performed using impregnated activated carbon in the form of small-sized granules. The weight of the filling depends on the type of the adsorption apparatus.

Field of applicationThe line of desulphurisation units serves for the removal of hydrogen sulfide by means of adsorption using a special adsorption material – activated carbon with the subsequent catalytic oxidation to elemental sulphur that will be trapped by sorbent. The adsorption material deactivates in consequence of the release of elemental sulphur. Therefore, it is necessary to replace it after a certain period of time. The desulphurisation efficiency amounts to 96 – 99 %.

ServiceThe servicing provided by KS Klima-Service a.s. ensures the contactless change of the adsorption apparatus.

Field of applicationFor use in the KS KOPA, KS BD, KS KOPA BIG, KS BD BIG systems and in filter cartridges.

Group no. 1very good adsorption 20 – 50 % of AC weightToluene, xylene, benzine, phenols, benzene, chloroform, perchloroethylene, styrene, acetates, kerosene, turpentine, odours from kitchens, smokehouses and meat production, harmful substances from welding, odours from waste water treatment plants, body odours, harmful substances from gluing and soldering, solvents, tobacco smoke, hospital odours, disinfectants, benzole

Group no. 2good adsorption 10 – 18 % of AC weightEther, anaesthetics, acetone, methyl alcohol, phosgene, acetates, smog gases.

Group no. 3very low adsorption capacity 3 – 8 % of AC weightAcrolein, ethane, propane, ethylene, chlorine, methane, ammonia, formaldehyde, carbon dioxide.

Note: It is necessary to use impregnated activated carbon.

Re-activation of activated carbonWe perform re-activation of activated carbon – saturated activated carbon of the SC 40 standard is reworked in a rotary counter-current furnace under gradual temperature increase from 20 to 830°C and the holding time of approximately 30 minutes,

which are conditions similar to the ones during activated carbon production. An activation medium is water vapour and flue gases. During this technological operation the adsorbed more volatile substances are gradually dried – thermally desorbed, and the surface is activated (renewed) at 92–100%, in rare cases even over 100% (additional reaction of amorphous carbon fraction) from the original value. The operating temperature is sufficient to ensure pyrolysis of non-volatile organic substances. The equipment can re-activate activated carbon saturated e.g. with polymerizing substances, siloxanes, chlorinated hydrocarbons etc.

This re-activation procedure shows significant quality advantages compared to the other technologies (e.g. thermal desorption at 250–350°C) when the active surface is not renewed at lower temperatures.

After the treatment operation, re-activated carbon of the SC 40 quality standard is formed. A secondary product which is a vapour-gaseous phase containing desorbed substances and flue gases is disposed in the environmentally-friendly way by mechanical filtration, incineration and alkali and acid wash-out. These changes can be determined as a general weight reduction of activated carbon by approximately 25% compared to the saturated activated carbon. These changes can be determined as a weight reduction of activated carbon from approximately 0.6 t/m3 to 0.5 t/m3 and the renewal of the active surface – the determination of the iodine value or absorption isothermal curve.

Yield coefficient: 0.75–0.85The coefficient cannot be determined in advance because it depends on:• the absorbing capacity of the sorbent used• the chemical composition of trapped substances• a degree of saturation of the sorbet

Impregnated activated carbonAdsorption filters with activated carbon

Packaging

Bags or barrels of 25 – 30 kgPossibility of regeneration

No

Filter propertiesImpregnated granular activated carbon is used for the adsorption of gases and vapours that are adsorbed by standard activated carbon very little or are not adsorbed at all. These are low-molecular and polar substances with a low concentration and toxic effects. The complex chemical reaction of a harmful substance with an impregnating agent brings about the removal of the substance from the air – harmful gases are chemically bonded to the impregnating agent in activated carbon (chemical adsorption). When it is required to separate various harmful substances in one unit at the same time, it is necessary to design a multi-stage filtration unit with activated carbon impregnated at various levels.

Field of applicationFor use in the KS KOPA, KS-BD, KS KOPA BIG, KS BD BIG systems.

Waste disposalEnvironmentally friendly disposal according to applicable standards and laws.

ACCESSORY EQUIPMENTPressure gauges are used for detection of pressure dropes in built-in air filters. They may be used to measure underpressure or overpressure (e.g. in spraying boxes). Due to an easy mounting and low price, they are indispensable for detecting the final pressure drop of the filter. It increases substantially the efficiency of use of a filter and brings operating costs savings.

Pressure gauges can be mounted easily on filter chambers and they are supplied with accessories (contrast liquid, delivery hoses...) or with the possibility of electronic connection to automatic control (a higher measurement and regulation system). We supply pressure gauges in ranges from 50 to 5,000 Pa. We supply also a Magnehelic line of pressure gauges in the range from 1,000 – 5,000 Pa.
