HistoryNew Line Cinema, is one of the main American film

studios. It was founded as a film distribution company in 1967 by Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne.

The Nightmare on Elm street was produced in1984 and was New Line's first successful film series. This has lead to the company to be nicknamed "The House that Freddy Built".

In 1996 New Line Cinema merged with Time Warner. In 2008 New Line Cinema merged with larger sister studio Warner Bros.

• The return of the king was released in 2003 and is now the 3rd highest-grossing films. It grossed $1,119,110,941.

• The two towers was released in 2002 and has sold over $925,282,504

• Released in 2001 Fellowship of the ring grossed over $870,761,744.

• It is the 4th Highest-grossing film series of all time.• The trilogy won 17 out of 30 academy awards

Why are the films so successful ?

There are many things that makes a film successful. For example: • Remakes – The remaking of the classic horror film such as Freddy

Kruger has been very successful. Many people from the younger generation are more likely to watch due to the improving special effect and modernising the film.

• Actors –If the actors is at the height of their fame, then more people are likely to watch it. For example many people watch the film 17 again for Zac Efron.

• Adaption – Film such as the lord of the ring trilogy has proved to be a smash hit. This because many devoted fan of the book will watch it. Other people may watch the film due to the huge media hype.

• Storyline – If the storyline is interesting and funny then the film will be successful e.g.. the rush hour films were successful

How do they market and distribute their film ?

New Line does not distribute its own films overseas. It contracts other studios to distribute its product. Some films produced by newline cinema are distributed straight to blue ray or DVD.

Newline cinema promote their films in different ways. For Example:• Trailers - A Trailer allows the target audience to see what kind of action the film will contain. It creates awareness about the film. Trailer are shown at during TV adverts, at the cinemas or it can be seen on YouTube. • Premiere – Premiere is design to promote a film. It creates awareness by attracting many fans and media attention.• Poster – Posters are shown on billboards. There may be numerous version of posters for one film, but changes in regards to size and content.
