Film distribution
By Joseph Bamford
Distribution• Film distribution is the process through which a
movie is made available to watch for an audience by a film distributor. A film distributor is in charge of marketing, release strategy, making the film have a buzz about it and making deals with who can show it. Depending on their size the company could do that all in house if not they would have to work with other companies.
Distribution Companies
• 20th Century Fox is a major film distributor based in The United States Of America. They have distributed Ice Age, Star wars, Planet Of The Apes
• Artificial Eye is a independent film distribution company specializing in art house films for cinema. Fill the void is one of there films they have produced.
Our Film• I think that independent film distribution
companies would be more interested in our film, this is mainly because of our low budget. The film Shifty, who I consider of having a similar opening sequence to ours, was distributed by a independent company called Metrodome. I don’t think it would appeal to Major film distribution companies as the characters in ours aren’t well known so may not want to invest something into something they aren’t to sure of.
Film Appeal• I think our film would mainly appeal to British
audiences only for two reasons. Firstly the location of our film was set in a place where foreign audiences may not find relatable so may not want to go see it. Secondly as the actors we used aren’t known people are less likely to go see it as they don’t know who they are.
Strategies• Marketing- I think that a good place for our film to
advertise would be on a social networking site, as that is where a lot of people would see it and its cheaper than a TV advert. This is where a lot of teenagers are and we want our advert to hit our target audience.
Self Distribution• Pros- distribute your film nationally, qualify for
your film for an Oscar, market your film to foreign countries, you get a highly skilled publicist to set up press screenings.
• Cons- It can be a full-time job in itself as it can be very time consuming chasing buyers and sales and filling in paperwork, It may limit your options for sales.
