Film Distribution
It is the process of launching a film into the market place, then consequently sustaining the publics interest.
Distribution includes marketing a film as well as providing cinemas and television networks with the film.
What is Film Distribution?
The Distributor brings the film to market, usually from scratch; unless it is a sequel.
For a film to be financially successful, it has to be marketed, positioned and publicised.
The Distributor
In order to distribute a film, they need acquire the rights for the film.
The stages to acquire the rights of a film:
Invest in a films production
Buy the rights to the film after it has been made.
The Distributor may be part of a large organisation, they will automatically distribute.

Deciding on a release date
Deciding which cinemas will screen their film
Advertising campaigns (posters, billboards)
Organising premieres and screenings
Booking the talent (Director and Actors) for interviews and appearances.
The Responsibilities of a Film Distributor
There are many distribution companies in the United Kingdom with diverse funding structures, aims and marketing plans who are trying to sell their films in a competitive environment.
