If you are over 16, the chances are that you have or may be in the process of seeking a part time job. Part time employment is crucial in developing you as an individual and teaching you great life lessons about independence, resilience and organisation.

The trick is to find a job that allows you to balance these activities alongside your academic studies and still have time to do all of the other things that you like to do.

On a sheet of paper, draw a table with 3 columns. It needs to look a bit like this .……….

Work experience isn’t just about making a cup of tea as it has stereotypically been presented in the past. Work experience offers young people a unique opportunity into commercial life.

Placements generally take place over 1-4 weeks, although they may last longer.

According to a recent government study, 29% of employers say that experience is crucial in recruiting young people and 45% say it is highly significant.

So, it’s crucial that if you have work experience, you carefully document the activities you were involved in and reflect on what you learnt.

If your work experience lasts for a week, you should write a reflective blog entry on your Kloodle profile each day.

Try to take pictures (if allowed) to evidence activities you have completed.

Upload any certificates that you are awarded to prove that you have completed the experience to your ‘document’ section.

If your work experience is over a longer period, you should write a reflective blog on Kloodle once a week.

It might be a while until you need to call on this experience in a job or apprenticeship interview or a UCAS application form, so it’s important to record as many of your findings and skill acquisition as you can.

Once you’ve completed the ‘details page’ and you’ve clicked ‘Add new Experience’ you will be presented with this page.

This is where you can upload evidence. For instance, you might write a blog (which is just a short piece of writing detailing what you’ve done - for instance, what you’ve learnt - what surprised you - what challenged you - if you found anything especially easy or difficult).

You might upload a photo or video. For instance, if you are working in an engineering company, you might (with permission) film some of the new technologies in action.

Alternatively, you can upload documents. This might include any DocuSign paperwork that validates your attendance and work ethic during the course of the work experience.

Once you have updated evidence this is classed as dynamic content and you can tag in skills.

These will in turn appear on your home screen and will contribute towards your progression wheel.

….. Voluntary Work

Voluntary work is a wonderful use of your spare time and should be celebrated. Many people volunteer to participate within a community or because they enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they are helping others.

For any of you considering a career in a ‘caring’ profession, it is vital. Employers like to see evidence of voluntary work because it shows that you can work as part of a team.

Voluntary work must also be documented on Kloodle.

And in your spare time …. ?Many of you will spend your time involved in voluntary work.
