Cottages in the Nares and Bayfield Archipelago: Red, Right, Returning Through the Islands Would you like your cottage to be in the first edition of a book about cottages in Bayfield-Nares? The full-colour book will provide a ‘snap shot’ of the cottages and the BNIA members who call these cottages ‘home’ (and will be updated every few years as cottages and BNIA members come and go, so we will have a periodic visual history of our life and times on the Bay) o More focused on photos & not focused on wedding/birth dates like Go Home Bay’s Cottage Tree o More of a ‘snap shot’ and much less text than Pointe au Baril Cottage Histories The book will be prepared with volunteer labour, the publisher and copyright holder for the book will be the BNIA, and one copy will be sold to BNIA members at a discounted price (likely $20, which is $10 off the production price), additional copies will be sold to BNIA members at the production price (likely $30), and non-members will be able to purchase the book at full price (perhaps $45 plus shipping) The cover of the first edition, which will be published in 2018 to coincide with the BNIA’s 60 th anniversary, will feature a photo of the old Thompson cottage The book will contain one page per cottage (or two if there are a number of separate sleeping cabins or other buildings), which will include: o Photo(s) of cottage (and these can be converted to ‘sketches’ if you’d prefer) o Whatever bulleted list of key ‘facts’ about the place you’d like to share (see below for examples) o An optional short piece of island/cottage ‘lore’ (125 words or less) o Two stylized maps showing where the cottage is located The cottages will be listed in groupings as you approach them through the main channels o Heading into Nares east bay: From the Thomson Reserve (A58) to just after the S-turn (A62) o A detour into Nares Inlet o Heading out of Nares west bay: From A65 to the end of Hangdog Reef (A74) 1

What will you need to do if you decide to participate? Self-serve option

o Pick 1 to 4 high-resolution digital colour photos (e.g., 300 ppi on a 4”*6” photo), with or without you and your family and friends in them Favourite view of the cottage from the water (required if you want to be

included in the book) Favourite view of the cottage from land (optional) Favourite view from inside the cottage but looking out (optional) A fun one, like a favourite chair or fireplace, a distinct rock formation or

the outhouse… or even a high-resolution scan of an old photo of the cottage for a ‘then and now’ combination (optional)

o Draft point-form answers in Word or an email (or long-hand if need be) to as few or as many of the questions below as you like (and these drafts will then be edited for inclusion in the book) People

Who owns and/or uses the cottage these days (including pets if you’d like)?

Do you have relatives in BN and, if so, what are their cottage numbers?

Island/property Cottage address (e.g., A700) (required if you want to be included in

the book) Does the island and/or cottage have a name (and if so, what’s the

story behind the name)? How long has it been in the family? Do you have a favourite story about it or its construction? Do you know anything about its history before your family's time

there? Do you have a history in BN that starts with other islands/properties

Cottage and boat How long has the cottage been around? Who built it? What about other buildings? Do you have a favourite boat and what’s it called?

Services Who do you rely on for help with the cottage? Dennis, Doug or

someone else? Who do you rely on for help with the boat? Bayfield Boat Club, Nares

Landing, Thompson Marine or someone else?o Consider drafting a short piece of island/cottage ‘lore’ (125 words or less),

which can be about any points above (e.g., favourite story about the construction of the cottage) or be about something else (optional)

o Fill out the photo copyright release form that you can get from us or the BNIA website (or as many forms as there are copyright holders) to give the BNIA a royalty-free license to use the photos in the book

o Make sure your cottage number is included in the above file nameso Contact us by email (see below) so we can invite you to upload your files to

DropBox (or put them on a flash drive and leave them for Mary Perdue at 2
