“You as employers need to take the rststep in ensuring that their employees’interest is looked after by ensuring thatall the necessary steps on submitting
employees’ contributions to FNPF are being followed.”Mr Waqairawai said that to date, theFund continues to tackle issues oflate, inaccurate, incomplete and/orunreconciled contribution schedulesresulting in short payment ofcontribution.Lack of communication of payroll

2nd Year Parliamentary Sitting BeginsThe second Parliamentary year went inull session. While it would be ofcially opened, itwould then adjourn before sittings startnext week. However, all eyes would be on the conductof Members of Parliament from both sides-specially from the Opposition side.
The last Parliamentary year sitting hadeen what could be described as the best
of the worst from some Opposition MPs.This had many times led to the Speaker,Dr Jiko Luveni, rising from her chair toget the House in order.
And then, we have had words such asshut up, rubbish amongst many others
being hurled while MPs and Ministersmade statements in Parliament. We also saw the Bible being waved byOpposition MP Semesa Karavaki, whowas attempting to make a point aboutsome prophesies. We have also had our share of threatswhen comments from the other side ofthe House were made that the days of thisGovernment were numbered. Yes, indeed. However, there is still hope.As SODELPA struggles to get their
own house in order, maybe the NatioFederation Party will take this opportunto stamp their mark in the Opposition.Although, they may seem to be moreless xated on the sugar industry (forgetting the rst question that Prem Singh had to his name which wa breakdown of people in service baon race), maybe this Parliamentary ytheir focus would be more encompassof other sectors and other people. Will there be less nger-pointing more attempt to work for the bettermof this nation?

ICBC Loses Case Against Kava-DrinkingDriver
A judge has ruled the InsuranceCorporation of B.C. (ICBC) must replacehe vehicle of a man who crashed into aast-food restaurant seven years ago.
According to a Sept. 3 B.C. Supreme
Court decision, Mohammed YusufVenkataya, now 51, was visiting withriends on Oct. 12, 2008. The group of sixalked, ate, watched TV and drank kava.
Kava is a South Pacic plant and a tea-ike drink is made from the root of the
plant. It is Fiji's national drink and is oftenonsumed at celebrations or ceremonies, hough its use is not regulated in Canada,
according to the court document.Venkataya testied he was not feelingwell the evening of the get-together andhad a few bowls of sh soup, one bowl
of kava and a cup of tea. He said he andriends had consumed kava for severaldecades and that he'd normally have itonce or twice a month. While driving home from his friend'shouse after the get-together, Venkataya –a devout Muslim who does not smoke,
drink or use any drugs – was about toturn right onto Scott Road from 88Avenue. But that's the last thing the driverremembered before being handcuffedand placed on the ground outside a Taco
Time restaurant, where his vehicle hadcrashed into a building. Two police ofcers were in the area andwitnessed Venkataya's collision. Theysaid they saw the driver hit a meridianand saw the tires spinning as the engineaccelerated on the temporarily stuckSUV. They then saw the car break free, whiz by them, hitting several poles, signs, trees, a light standard and re hydrant
before slamming into the restaurant. The driver suffered minor injuries, butvomited several times after the crash.
The car was severely damaged. The court heard Venkataya had a bloodalcohol reading of zero and readilyadmitted to drinking kava, whichHealthLinkBC describes as havinga calming effect, "producing brainwave changes similar to changes that
occur with calming medicines suchdiazepam (Valium, for example)."At trial, ICBC's lawyers argVenkataya was dishonest about hmuch kava he had consumed.
But Justice Peter Voith deemVenkataya an "unusually direct" witnand believed his testimony.ICBC also argued that kava is intoxicating substance that would h
placed Venkataya under the inueat the wheel. There was also suggestthat the driver having taken Benadryl same day, either alone or in combinaticould have rendered him impaired. The judge, however, said ICBC faito prove Venkataya was incapabledriving as a result of consuming a d
or intoxicating substance."The whole of the evidence does not,a balance of probabilities, satisfy
burden," Voith said in his written decisICBC was ordered to pay Venkatayacost to replace his 2006 Nissan Arma
plus court costs.

Booze Causes Cancer And It Only TakesOne Drink A Day: Study
JUST one alcoholic drink a day can increase a woman’s chance of getting cancer says an alarming new study.
The nding challenges healthy drinkingguidelines set by our National Health andMedical Research Council (NHMRC)

Men have to consume more than twoalcoholic drinks per day and smokebefore their risk of cancer appreciablyncreases.
The Harvard Research to be publishedn the British Medical Journal bears out
Cancer Council Australia calls that wecan reduce our risk of getting cancer bymaking lifestyle changes. One in two men and one in three women

The study examined cancer caseshat occurred among 88,084 women

he US Professionals Follow-up study. They were interviewed about theirsmoking and drinking habits andesearchers wanted to nd whether
alcohol consumption alone, rather thansmoking and drinking was associatedwith increased cancer risk.A woman faces a 13 per cent increased
risk of breast cancer if she consumes 5-14grams of alcohol a day, the study found. This is the equivalent of just one drink
a day. One standard drink contains 10grams of alcohol. The NHMRC guidelines say: “Forhealthy men and women, drinking of nomore than two standard drinks on anyday reduces the lifetime risk of harmfrom alcohol-related disease or injury”.The association between alcohol andcancer is also stronger for ages 65 andabove, the study found.Increased frequency of drinking raisedcancer risk in men but not women, theresearch found. However, binge drinking increased
cancer risk in women but not men, thestudy found. It is estimated alcohol consumptionhas caused 3.6 per cent of all cancersworldwide, 1.7 per cent on women and5.2 per cent in men.It didn’t matter whether people consumed
beer wine or spirits, all alcoholic beverages increased cancer risk. The authors say this suggests the ethanolin alcohol is the primary cancer causingagent.Earlier this year the Cancer Council
Victoria found convincing evidencethat drinking alcohol increases the riskof cancers of the bowel, breast, mouth, throat, voice box, esophagus (food pipe)and liver. It linked more than 5000 new cases ofthese cancers each year to long-termdrinking.

What Makes The 'World's Best Diet'
RevealedResearchers have revealed the 'world'sbest diet' that would help people us shedkilos and would help them to not onmore weight. The researchers from the University ofCopenhagen found that a high protein/ower carbohydrate diet pattern is the
best diet ever and according to theWorld's Best Diet', which is based ona large European study known as theDiogenes Diet, people on low GI carband high protein combo diet not only
kept the weight off during the six monthsof the study but they also continued to
lose weight too.Jennie Brand-Miller, Professor ofHuman Nutrition at the University ofSydney's Charles Perkins Centre. Brand-Miller revealed that this way of eatingworks because both protein and low GIcarbs help us produce more of the satietyhormones that keep us feeling full. There are no uffy carbs in this diet.Instead it's based on fresh vegetables, lean protein sources like sh, poultry, legumes, nuts and dairy foods and dense,
grainy foods like rye bread, pumpernickeland barley - the book's recipe for rye
porridge with apple and hazelnuts is polar opposite of lightweight breakcereal. The researchers said that the reason throbust carbs are more lling than thmore rened cousins like white brisn't just that they keep blood sulevels steadier and they also stimucells in the gut that produce one of satiety hormones we need to feel fThese cells are located deep down ingut - a place that rapidly digested ca

Things Kids Should Not Hear From TheirParents
Every child matures with her own uniquexperiences. Observing your little baby
grow up to be a smart teen is a learningprocess in itself. But, sometimes parentsend to forget their role and blurt outhings that can play havoc to the little
one’s self esteem. Parents seldom realisewhat their careless comments have doneo their child’s emotions. So, to help you
never make such harmful comments webring you a list of things that you shouldavoid saying to your child.
. I was way more responsible than
you at that age…This comment breaks into your littleone’s condence. You have to rememberhat you are a different person growing
up in different times. Rather than thisdiscouraging statement an encouragingadvice would be so much more helpful. Also, remember to never compareyourself with your child and try to haveno expectations towards them.2. You always manage to do the wronghings and take the worst decisionsver.
Your kid is growing up and there is noearning without a few mistakes. So don’t
criticise the mistakes instead encourageher to learn from them and guide her tofollow the right path.3. Do not disturb me.We all need space but sometimes yourresponsibility towards your child ismore important. This harmless pleamay be comprehended as neglect anda feeling of being unwanted can creepin making your child feel alone. Kidscan even go into depression due to acomment like that. So next time be alittle more careful.
4. You need to be more careful withyour friends; they are not good peopleto hang out with.Children don’t make friends for their
benets. Their friendships are as innocentand their companionship means a lot.You must learn to respect your child’schoice in friends. If you feel like they arein bad company, try to reason things outfor them and guide them towards better
people.5. Learn from your friends / siblings.Comparing one child with another is
the most unreasonable thing parents cando. Parents tend to generate a negative
feeling for that particular friend / siblwith comments like these which canharmful for their relationship. Rememthat every child is different and it is yduty to respect and appreciate ychild’s qualities.6. I’d rather not have children thhave a child like you.It can’t get worst than this. As a paryou should never ever, for whatereason make a comment like thatyour kid. It could result in emotionadestroying your child.
7. You always succeed in hurting emotions.Children can’t always fulll their parewishes which result in unintenemotional pain. But rather than makthe child feel guilty, reason things and teach her how to be more carefulnext time around.8. Stop crying...Tears are a way of expressing wwords cannot. When your kid criemeans something she is trying to tell y
but cannot. Do not scold the kid rath
empathise and try to understand feelings.
