BOAT

Our vessel, the 30-foot Front Cabin has been constructed with the Fibercore one-piece stringer system and state-of-the-art V-Trac hull, giving you optimal performance and durability. The cockpit is fitted out with 2 large underfloor fish boxes, along with insulated ice box, custom dive ladder for easy boarding, custom-built speargun racks, and padded seating. The stylish cabin with 6.5 feet of headroom gives you all the spoils of a larger charter with a full galley, private bathroom, which completes the picture-perfect boat. She is exceptionally stable at rest or speed and capable to navigate through rough seas with total comfort and safety. It's really is a boat with you could go to the sea in real confidence knowing you’ll get home even in the worst of conditions. The ride in any conditions needs to be experienced to be believed.

The Charter boat is top grade and contains state of the art electronic equipment including a Marine Radio, Raymarine offshore fish finder, Weather Sonar Chart plotter, GPS extra large colour with maps, Epirb device and safety gear stocked per the fishing regulations in Fiji. The boat, equipment, and dive gear are maintained daily and inspected prior to every charter departure.

Captains and dive staff are specially trained to handle all diving and boating emergencies and are certified in first aid and oxygen administration. Before entering the water, each diver will be given a full dive and spearfish briefing which will also include safety procedures. All employees comply with the Fiji Marine Authority and are very experienced at cruising and diving in and around the waters of Fiji. Customers are under the constant care and supervision of our extensively trained guides who have received formal training in spearfishing and charter operations and safety techniques. Knowledgeable and friendly guides will assist our customers every step of the way, from the time they depart from Pacific Harbour until they are on their way back to their resort.

Deep sea fishing charters will take you to the most fertile waters where fish bigger than you can imagine are waiting for you. Our Gamefishing Charter specializes in light to medium tackle “8kg to 24kg” as we believe this type of gear will give the fisherman the best possible chance of taking home a new record, along with a great sporting fight from some of the fastest fish in the ocean. This method of gamefishing out of Pacific Harbour is second to none with huge schools of Wahoo, Tuna, and Sailfish schooling up over the numerous seamounts and ocean structures. Along with seamounts come deep canyons and trenches running between the main island of Viti Levu and Kadavu, wherein lie some of the best Blue Marlin hunting grounds. These fish hound large schools of congregating bait fish, greatly increasing your chances of raising one of these Majestic Monsters.

SURROUNDINGS

Set your internal clock to ‘Fiji time’: exploring the archipelago’s exquisite beaches, undersea marvels, lush interiors and fascinating culture shouldn’t be rushed.

Dazzling sands, perfect palm trees and waters so blue that they glow. Fiji’s beaches look airbrushed. While stunning stretches abound, it’s on the islands of the Mamanucas and Yasawas that you’ll find heavenly heavyweights. These beaches are the poster-child for paradise, luring thousands of visitors keen to discover their own South Sea idyll. The appeal of the islands stretches beyond holiday snaps; the reefs, bays and sublime sands have provided cinematic eye candy to films including Cast Away with Tom Hanks and 1980 teen-dream classic The Blue Lagoon.

Fiji’s calm seas belie the riot of life going on within. With seemingly endless stretches of intensely coloured reefs and more than 1500 species of fish and colossal creatures Fiji’s underwater world is worth the plunge. Seasoned divers and snorkellers will find plenty to excite them, while first-timers will be bubbling excited exclamations into their mouthpieces. Anywhere a fin flashes or coral waves, you’ll find a diving or snorkel day trip and there are excellent live-aboard journeys for those after a truly immersive experience.

While it’s easy to spend your holiday in, on or under the water, those who take the time to towel off will be rewarded by a wealth of terra firma treats. Fiji offers ample opportunities for hikers, birdwatchers, amblers and forest-fanciers, particularly on the islands of Taveuni (known as ‘The Garden Island’ for its ludicrously lush interiors) and Kadavu, a less-travelled slice of prehistoric paradise with almost no roads to speak of. If urban wildlife is your thing, Suva boasts a surprising nightlife scene, while towns like Savusavu entice with rollicking taverns and meet-the-locals haunts.

Fijian life revolves around the church, the village, the rugby field and the garden. While this may sound insular, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more open and welcoming population. Though the realities of local life are less sunny than the country’s skies (many regions are poor and lack basic services). Fijians are famous for their hospitality and warmth, which makes it easy to make friends or immerse yourself in Fijian culture on a village homestay.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Fiji barely has a winter to speak of! How good is that? In winter the lowest temperature is a mild 18 degrees, meaning it's a great destination to visit year-round. But it's not all sunshine, blue skies and blazing sunsets. Here we outline the best time to visit Fiji.

The advantages of visiting in dry season, aside from idyllic weather are multiple: great surfing, good conditions for snorkelling and diving, plus spectacular sunsets. As the cooler months set in, the spectrum of colours in Fiji's famous sunsets is incredible, with light scattered clouds making for amazing nightly displays by nature, says Chris Hamilton, resident manager of Shangri-La's Fijian Resort and Spa.

It's also the best time to go diving and snorkelling, with clarity at its best from May through to the end of September. Some divers, however, prefer the wet season as the water temperature is a couple of degrees warmer, meaning no need for a wetsuit.

Deep inside the 170-metre cave remains a gruesome reminder of Fiji's cannibal past, a cannibal oven, a ritual platform and the sacred priest chamber.

Must-see Sawa-i-Lau is a stand-out limestone island (housing two caves) amid a string of those formed by volcanos. The gorgeous grottoes attract visitors by the dingy-ful. Known as the 'heart of the Yasawas', they're as rich in legend as they are in looks: among other tales, they are reputed to be the final resting place of Ulutini, the 10-headed ancient Fijian god.

‘Tropical paradise’ might be the most hackneyed cliché in the travel-writing world, but there’s no getting away from it here: the Mamanuca islands tick every box, with brochure-blue seas and beaches so brilliant they’re Hollywood celebrities unto themselves. With romance, relaxation and a disproportional number of fantastic resorts on offer, the Mamanuca group is unsurprisingly one of Fiji’s most popular destinations.

USEFUL INFORMATION

The best time to go to Fiji is whenever you have the chance.

Low season runs between November to April, and it's Fiji’s ‘wet season’, with heavy rains and high humidity. Fewer tourists equal reduced rates, though discounts are hard to come by in December and January during Australian and New Zealand school holidays. May to October it's called the shoulder season, that includes the ‘Fijian winter’ or ‘dry season’ (May to October), bringing low rainfall, low humidity, milder temperatures and a lower risk of cyclones. Peak seasons (Jun–Sep; Dec & Jan) coincide with the school holidays in Australia and New Zealand. Prices go up by 10% to 20%; costs peak in June and July.

We will provide customers with all equipment necessary for your Spearfishing & Fishing charter if you like. Including speargun (freediver railguns ranging from 1m to 1.5m with rubbers set up as single, double, & triple bands) & 20-35 litter inflatable floats and rig lines, wetsuit (top quality camo and black suits from Adreno), Rabitech gloves & booties, mask & snorkel (Cressi and Omer brands), fins (stealth freediver fins) & weight belt (stainless steel quick snap belts with 4 x 3-pound weights).

For your gamefishing days, we have plenty of Shimano Tiagra 50w 2 speed, 24kg Backbone rods, Shimano Tyrnos 30’s, 15kg Backbone rods, Shimano TLD 25’s, 10kg Backbone rods, Shimano Saragosa 18000 T-Curve Deep Jig rods & tons of lures, but in these waters nothing beats a fresh skip bait!

Our safety policies and procedures eclipse the international standards established by professionals from Australia, the recognized authority in this field. We use only "state of the art" equipment, provide extensive guide training, and conduct our charters in a safe environment. All charters and dives are guided, which means one of the Freedive Fiji crew members will be in the water with the customers at all times to help with the spearfishing gear, to identify approaching fish and aid in all situations. Our guides will also be carrying the newest technology in shark deflection, the Freedom 7 Shark Shield™.

On shared charters, guests are welcome to take back what they themselves can eat for dinner. Our crew will be available after charter to fillet the catch for each guest. On private charter, it is up to the crew to determine what amount of fish will be given to the guests, unless already agreed prior to charter.
