Armed with two slow- firing but powerful Vickers S 40mm cannon, which induced a lot of drag and its slow rate of fire was not useful in air-to-air combat - but it poked large holes in any tank in the desert! Also used over Burma. A few non-Tropical versions were produced: +0.5 Max level speed at MH+; +1 pwr all altitudes. Vicker S cannon: Fired separately from MGs. MGs can be used for sight- ing. Triple attack value for strafing attacks: AP shells vs Hard targets in West- ern Desert; HE shells vs Soft targets over Burma. Dop Tanks: Hurricane Mk. IIs used 44 Imp. gal. drop tanks normally, but sta- tions 1&2 could be overloaded to 750 lbs each with fixed (non-jettisonable) 90 Imp. gal. ferry tanks for long-range missions. If 90 Imp. gal. tanks fitted, the wings must be checked for overstress if HT+ turns done with fuel still in the tanks or if BT+ turns used when the tanks are empty. Firefly AS.5: Available 1948. Last production version of the Firefly. Nearly identical to Mk.IV, but more adaptable: it could be equipped as a fighter, recon-fighter, nightfighter (with AI radar), and ASuW or ASW (with surface search radar) roles. Carrier equipment. Flaps. 352 built.
Exports: 40 Mk IVs and 15 Mk.5s went to the Dutch Navy. 22 Mk.Ivs and 7 Mk.5s when to the Canadian Navy.

Hawker Fury: Well-respected biplane fighter of the 1930s. First production warplane to exceed 200 mph in level flight. Open ockpit, fixed gear.
Fury I: Available October 1931. Original engine was a 575-hp Kestrel IIS. Max level speed -0.5 at VL&LO 118 built. 3 exported to Portugal and 6 to Yugoslavia. Ring and Bead sight.
Fury II: Still in service in Colonial service in 1939. Served with South African Air Force against Italian East Africa.112 built domestically, additional exports to Iran (24), Yugoslavia (10), Spain (3) and license-built Yugoslavia (40 in 1937-8). Two sqdns in Yugoslavian service in April 1941. Telescopic sight.

Hawker Sea Fury: Developed from the prototype Hawker Fury, which the RAF rejected to pursue jet aircraft. All had carrier equipment.
Sea Fury Mk.X: Available Apr-47. Fighter. First Sea Furies built. Issued to No. 778, 802, 803, 805, and 807 Sqdns. 50 Built.
Sea Fury FB.11: Fighter/bomber version carried up to 1000lb bombs, drop tanks, and rockets. Provided ground support in Korea from RN carriers. Later exported to Burma (18), Cuba (15). Exports served with the Royal Dutch Navy (47), Iraqi Air Force (55), and Pakistan (87), into the 1950s. 615 built.
