to learn, to share, and to live the message of Jesus. Guided by

these gifts of Time-Talent-Treasure, to nurture and strengthen
our families, our community, our nation, and our world.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 23 - 24, 2016
Kingston—Plympton
Dear friends,
These past few weeks I have made a wonderful retreat at the San Alfonso Retreat house in Long Branch, N.J. The
facility is located on the ocean which made for a beautiful setting. About 40 priests from around the country attended;
it was a great experience for me. The four presenters focused on the Pope’s Letter on the Family, the Jubilee Year of
Mercy, The Gospel of Luke and Women in the Scriptures. The next 4 days I took my parents to the Berkshires. We
spent some time at the Shrine of Divine Mercy, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Shaker Village and at
Tanglewood where we saw the BSO.
This past weekend I was with 15 of our kids and three adults at the Annual Steubenville Youth Conference at U Mass
Lowell. Over 3,000 high school students attended this spirit filled weekend. A special thank you to Rob and Kris Forde
and Erin Kramer who chaperoned this trip.
I want to thank Fr. Robert for taking such good care of the parish in my absence. I want to bring something to your
attention regarding Fr. Robert’s parish that I was unaware of. All of the parish’s in Ghana are poor, some more than
others. But Robert’s is extremely poor. The most difficult hardship they have is that the rectory/church and the parish-
ioners near the church do not have running water. I asked Fr. Robert to describe the situation. “As a priest assigned to
the parish, my pastor, Fr. Roch and I always have to get some youth to walk not less than ½ mile to carry water on their
heads up the hill to the parish house to fill up our water containers so that we can use buckets to bathe, cook, wash
our clothing as well as flush our toilets.” I thought to myself, what do the elderly and sick do? I called Fr. Roch last
week and asked him how can this situation, of the lack of running water be fixed. He said that it would take $2,000
American dollars to drill a bore hole, as they call it, near the church. If that were done the rectory could be hooked up
and the toilet, sink and shower that are already there would have running water and many of the people could get
their water with much less effort.
I promised Fr. Roch that we would find the money so that the priest and people of Christ the King Parish could have
something that we all take for granted-Running Water. Everyone is busy during the summer so I thought that the
easiest way to solve this very solvable problem is to take up a second collection during the weekend of August 20 and
21. On a personal note: when I was in Haiti I took bucket showers-it’s no fun.
I hope that everyone is enjoying the summer months.
God bless,
Fr. Wally
Debt Reduction Campaign
A check in the amount of $4,000 has been sent to the Archdiocese of Boston from the funds collected for the parish
Debt Reduction campaign. This payment reduces the note on Our Lady’s Hall to $8,000. When the campaign started
the note on Our Lady’s Hall was $312,218. Good News!
Organ Fund
The amount of money needed to install the new Rogers Organ has been raised. More Good News! The installation
should be completed within the next two weeks.
PARISH FINANCES: The collection for the Offertory on the weekend of July 16/17 was $7,710.00. The
budgeted amount needed per week is $8,000 to deal with the present operating deficit. Thank you for your
continued support and generosity.

• I have been baptized in another Christian denomination and wish to become Catholic.
• I have been baptized Catholic, but have not received any other sacraments.
Do you know someone who might be interested in being in full communion with the Catholic Church? Ask, encourage,
and invite them to this program.

The Pilot is an important voice in the public square that brings you the Catholic perspective on current events.
Inspired by the vision of our publisher, Cardinal Seán O’Malley, The Pilot covers it all — from in-depth reporting on Pope Francis to the good works of Boston parishes.
Each week, The Pilot brings you the stories of Boston Catholics who bring the Works of Mercy to life on a daily basis.
Proclaiming the present Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said he wants to make it evident that the Church’s mission is to be a witness of compassion. “Let us not forget that God forgives and God forgives always,” Pope Francis said. “Let us never tire of asking for forgiveness.”
We invite you to join the Pilot readership today for only $19.95. This limited-time offer saves you 49% off the regular subscription rate. Thank you for your support.
