St. Genevieve's Veil: 7/10/16 Reflections Under Her Patronage

Dear Friends, I hope and pray that everybody had a great 4th of July weekend to be able to relax and stay at home or visit with families, relatives, and friends. It was a great weekend for me as well as I began my new assignment here at St. Genevieve. It truly was a homecoming for me to meet and greet with y’all – a lot of familiar faces as well as new ones that I have not met five years ago. I truly look forward to walking this pilgrimage with y’all. Like all other pilgrimages and journeys, there is always a beginning and an ending. A new journey does not begin until an old one is put to a close. As I have mentioned to y’all this past weekend, I am in the middle of two journeys right now. One began last Friday here in the parish, and the other is coming to an end. However, the latter is not quite finished yet because there are still a few things that I need to fulfill in order to receive my degree. And so this week I will be heading back to Washington, DC, to meet these requirements head-on, finish them and then come back for good into the Diocese. I will be out for about a month or so. In that time, Fr. Alex Gaudet, our parochial vicar, will be holding down the fort. I have known Fr. Alex for many years now and I have full confidence in the gifts that he can bring to this parish. Also, this weekend, we will have a visiting priest, who will be making an appeal, the Rev-erend Fr. Vincent Okoye of the Diocese of Maiduguri in Nigeria. He will be speaking at all the masses to talk about his diocese. Please give him the warmth and welcome that you have given Fr. Alex and me. Please know that I am and will continue to pray for you and for the parish as I head back to DC. Please also say a prayer for me, as I enter the most intense part of my academic stud-ies. Allons! Let’s move forward together!
