Procedures in the Survey MethodSurvey Method involved four important stages:

1) Selecting the universe of the field of study.2) Choosing samples from the universe that

has been selected for the study.3) Tools and methods used for collecting data.4) Analysis of data that is collected from the

samples to make generalisations.

Types Of Interviews Structured Interviews. Semi-structured Interviews. Unstructured Interviews.

Another Typology differentiates between: Standardised Interviews. Non-standardised Interviews.

Interview Methods:(1) ON THE BASIS OF APPROACH:

(1) Non-directive interviews: This type is also called uncontrolled, unguided or

unstructured interviews. It includes questions of the open-ended form

& permits much freedom to he interviewee to talk freely about the problems under study.

(2) Directive interviews: This is also known as the guided or structured

of the interview.

(3) Focused interview: This type of interview lies in between the directive &

non-directive categories. The focused interview has the following

characteristics: (1) It takes place with persons known to have been in a particular situation. (2) It deals with situations that have been analysed prior to the interview. (3) It proceeds on the basis of an interview guide who outlines the major areas of inquiry & the hypotheses that locate the pertinence of data to be secured in the interview. (4) It focuses on subjective experiences like attitude & emotional responses.

(4) In-depth interview: Here, the respondent is encouraged to express his

thoughts on the topic of research study. In-depth interviews the interviewer must be a trained

person with a background in psychology.

THE QUESTIONNAIRE METHOD Questionnaires are widely used for data collection in social

sciences research, particularly in surveys. It is a fairly reliable tool for gathering data from

large, diverse,Varied & scattered social groups. It is treated as the “HEART OF THE SURVEY OPERATION”.
