Overall ReflectionIn this field experience, I was able to enhance my knowledge in

curriculum development. The 12 episodes of this book contains activities such as interview, research, insights and reflection about the curriculum of the school. As a future teacher, all the knowledge we gather here will helps us to understand how the procedure of designing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum in our future school.

In episode one, it tackles about the different meaning of curriculum, also, in this episode I interview some friends and resource teachers about their opinion on the meaning of curriculum, I also search in the internet the other meaning of curriculum, and with that I formulate my own meaning of curriculum. After accomplishing all the activity, I reflect and asked myself “why curriculum is important?” In my personal opinion, curriculum is important because it was the pathway, the guiding star in education. In the next episode, it describe the different types of curricula in schools. In this activity I was able to differentiate the types of curricula existing in different school. Also in this episode, I was able to express my opinion about “why do I need to know the different types of curricula?” While in episode 3, I was able to learn the different characteristic of a teacher as a curricularists, and also the various function of a teachers as a curricularists. In this episode I was also able to have a one-on-one interview with some teachers of pre-school, elementary and secondary level and get their opinion about their role as a curricularist. In episode 4 I was able to distinguish similarities and difference of the traditional from the progressive curriculum. Like in the previous episode I was able to conduct an interview to the different stakeholders about their opinion about the role of the teacher and students, modes of instruction and assessment, and also the instructional materials used in traditional and progressive curriculum, with this activity I was able to know the different point of view of each person I interviewed and also their personal thoughts and opinion why they said this or that about the questions I asked them. Episode 5 is concerned with the different approaches about school curriculum. In this activity I was able to understand the suggested criteria of knowledge or subject-matter, as a future teacher it is very important for me to deeply understand this matter because if I fail in fulfilling the criteria, the content of my lesson will be meaningless. Episode six was focused on the processes and models of curriculum development, I also learned in this episode that curriculum is dynamic and undergoes a

Page 8: Field Study Journal

continuous process, while episode seven tackles the foundation of curriculum development. In this part of the book, I was able to learn the importance of curriculum development and how the philosophical, historical, psychological and social foundation of curriculum was interrelated. Next was the crafting the curriculum, in episode eight it shows the vital role of teachers as a curriculum designers, also, in this episode I was able to provide sample situation on how the ten axioms for curriculum design was realized in the school setting. I also able to create my own sample curriculum using the sample lesson I borrowed to Mrs. Ronsairo of grade 2 section A. In episode nine, it discussed the different curriculum design models. In this activity I was able to learn and distinguish the best features of the different curriculum design models, it was fun doing this activity especially as a future teacher formulating our own strategies, method, and techniques to help our students to learn in a comfortable way and to enhance their was our priority, and this type of eye-opener can help us to plan. Also in this episode I was able to interview again some close friends and family members about their opinion about the k to 12 program, and based on my interview up until now there is still a lot of people doubting the effectiveness of this program, however in the brighter side there are also a lot of people understand the product of this program. Episode 10 in this episode, I was able to learn the process of curriculum implementation. Also, I was able to give sample situation that shows the category of curriculum change. In episode 11, it was focus on the role of the stakeholder in the enrichment of curriculum. I was able to conduct an interview again to the different stakeholder about their role in curriculum development. Lastly episode 12, the curriculum evaluation and the activities in this activity was focused on how to evaluate the curriculum. There is also a part when I have to interview six teachers about why do we need to evaluate the curriculum, their answer was different but it lead to one point, and that is to know whether the current curriculum was relevant and effective, and the last activity on this chapter was to interview and asked them some ways to evaluate the curriculum, and this experience was really worth the pain and time of waiting because I was able to talk to the principal of headstart pre-school of Mandaluyong— Nida David.

In this activity, there’s a lot of new things I learned and some things that I thought was correct but was completely wrong. At first it was really embarrassing because I really stood up to some of my wrong beliefs and explain to them my point of view, but in their answers I was able to understand my mistakes, that’s why it was really nice to talk to some teachers, administrators and principal even though some of them are really hard to approach, but in the end it was really worth the pain and time because, they really know what they are saying and sometimes they also

Page 9: Field Study Journal

give us some suggestions, and tips about how we will handle the curriculum development in the near future.
