You’ll have the chance to learn about the range of sophisticated tools and equipment we use on- and offshore, but you’ll be expected to get your hands dirty. The hours can be long and the conditions can be harsh. You’ll often be away from home in remote locations and you won’t get the usual time off on weekends and holidays. Quite frankly, this is not a glamorous job – but it can be exciting; it is well-rewarded and full of variety. Could it be for you?

A vITAL roLEBaker Hughes relies on field specialists to operate and maintain the tools and technologies that deliver solutions to our customers, so this is a skilled, challenging, hands-on job. You will be expected to assemble, disassemble, operate and maintain a variety of equipment, from drill bits to surface cementing gear and rotary steerable systems. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that operations are safe, accurate, and carried out efficiently.

A rEWArDINg CArEEr PATHJoin us and you will receive all the training you need to succeed in the field through a multiphase training and development program. Phase one, structured over your first 12 months, includes formal classroom technical instruction, as well as hands-on practice and work with equipment under supervision in a team at the wellsite. Subsequent phases combine e-learning and instructor-led training modules, leading to increasing responsibility, autonomy, and technical competence, with progression depending on your own enthusiasm and capabilities.

Field specialists are highly respected at Baker Hughes, and if your goal is to establish and progress in an operational field role, it offers an ideal career path. Once you have completed the field specialist career development program requirements, there are a variety of opportunities, which include continuing in field operations or potentially areas such as technical support or applications engineering.

About you

To be considered for the field specialist development opportunity, you must have completed a two- to three-year qualification in a technology-related subject. In some countries, military experience is considered. You will be a team worker; inquisitive and keen to learn, able to apply technical know-how to practical situations, and resilient and adaptable to changing circumstances. Above all, you will be eager to work in the field, and be prepared to face sometimes challenging conditions.

Ideally, you will be fluent in English, or be motivated to learn it to progress your career. You must also have the legal right to work in the country in which you apply, without restrictions.

For certain field locations only, you will be required to undergo a medical examination, intended to evaluate your ability to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

While candidates for our development program are expected to have a maximum of three years’ work experience, Baker Hughes also recruits people into more senior field specialist roles, depending on capability and level of experience.
