Field Crest Notes & Quotes Volume 118 Issue 5 May/June 2018 Resident Spotlight O ur resident spotlight is on Berniece Giesler. Berniece received her Masters in Education at Winona State University. She first taught in her home districtGilderhus, in the Oslo Area. She married Floyd Giesler and they made their home outside of Kas- son. Floyd was in the service and served at the Battle of Pearl Harbor. They did not have children of their own, although their nieces and nephews were their “adopted children” and loved to spend time at Uncle Floyd and Aunt Berniece’s house. Berniece continued teaching, and she taught 5th grade at Hayfield Commu- nity School, making her teaching career span for over 40 years! She and Floyd were active gardeners...they always had a big beautiful, well maintained garden that they took a lot of pride in. They had a Pekingese “Chubby” who was a faithful companion. They loved watching the Vikings and the Twins play. A memo- rable trip they took was when they went to Hawaii and back to the Pearl Harbor Memorial where her husband had served so bravely alongside many others, several of whom did not make it home. It was surreal to go there and honor the memory of those who lost their lives serving our country. When Floyd and Berniece re- tired, they wintered in Sun City, Arizona. Berniece did not stop wintering there until about 4 or 5 years ago! She loves it when her previous students have come to Field Crest to visit and thank her for what she has taught them. We are honored to serve such a lovely lady here at Field Crest Care Center! Berniece Giesler

Resident Spotlight Our resident spotlight is on Berniece Giesler. Berniece received

her Masters in Education at Winona State University. She first

taught in her home district—Gilderhus, in the Oslo Area. She

married Floyd Giesler and they made their home outside of Kas-

son. Floyd was in the service and served at the Battle of Pearl

Harbor. They did not have children of their own, although their

nieces and nephews were their “adopted children” and loved to

spend time at Uncle Floyd and Aunt Berniece’s house. Berniece

continued teaching, and she taught 5th grade at Hayfield Commu-

nity School, making her teaching career span for over 40 years!

She and Floyd were active gardeners...they always had a big

beautiful, well maintained garden that they took a lot of pride in.

They had a Pekingese “Chubby” who was a faithful companion.

They loved watching the Vikings and the Twins play. A memo-

rable trip they took was when they went to Hawaii and back to the

Pearl Harbor Memorial where her husband had served so bravely

alongside many others, several of whom did not make it home.

It was surreal to go there and honor the memory of those who lost

their lives serving our country. When Floyd and Berniece re-

tired, they wintered in Sun City, Arizona. Berniece did not stop

wintering there until about 4 or 5 years ago! She loves it when

her previous students have come to Field Crest to visit and thank

her for what she has taught them. We are honored to serve such a

lovely lady here at Field Crest Care Center!

Thank you to our wonderful Volunteers: Another fun-filled volunteer luncheon in the books!

Our Volunteers gathered at Field Crest Care Center on April 16 to enjoy an appreciation dinner for all of their faithful hours of service. They enjoyed a buffet of deli-cious soups, sandwiches, salads and deserts. Afterwards, we played a “Penny Anny” game that was enjoyed by all those present and the winner of the game, Delores Distad, won a barn quilt made by our very own Field Crest men’s group. Six lucky volunteers also won the table arrange-

ments made by residents of the Field Crest craft group.

Our volunteers are so important to the success of Field Crest Care Center. They have enriched their lives in more ways than we can count. A big shout out to those of you who put your own lives on hold to serve our resi-dents. You leave an amazing mark in our community and we could never even begin to thank you enough for all

that you have done to support our residents and our team!

For the Fallen

They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
