1. About Extra Co
1.1. Company History
Extra Co was established in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates in the year 1979. The company started out
as a very small operation with a few workers producing small fibreglass water tanks. Since then, Extra Co has
significantly grown in size and capabilities to become a leading industrial manufacturer in the region for
thousands of different products, with more than 2,000 employees
throughout the United Arab Emirates. Extra Co‟s products and
services have reached many parts of the world, including the
Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the United States of America.
Throughout its operations, Extra Co has adopted state-of-
the-art manufacturing technologies and has pioneered new

industry, and manufactures steel profiles for structural and sheeting requirements
1.2. Mission, Vision & Values
Extra Co‟s blue elephant logo, although symbolic of the first Extra Co product – the water tank –
embodies the core missions and values being promoted internally as well as to customers: The first is
„Strength‟, and it is reflective of our staff‟s technical capabilities as well as our high-quality engineered
products. The second is „Efficiency‟ and it is indicative of Extra Co‟s mode
of operation which allows a lot of flexiblity in delivery time, design, and cost
vis-à-vis clients. The third is „Friendliness‟ and it is a value Extra Co prides
itself on given the long-term relationships with both clients and suppliers.
In one statement, Extra Co‟s mission is to provide its customers with
the best value-engineered products and turnkey solutions for their industrial
and construction needs within the quality standards, delivery time-frame,
and investment budget constraints. Extra Co‟s vision is to become the

leading industrial manufacturer in the Gulf and the Middle East regions. The company is continuing to develop
value-engineered products and services that are in line with the latest manufacturing technologies in order to
meet the most technically challenging customer requirements.
1.3. Group Companies
Extra Co is part of a group of companies that is continuously growing in
size and capabilities. The group currently holds 4 companies with 7 branches
throughout the United Arab Emirates. Besides Extra Co, the other group
companies are: Extra Co Industries, Al Badr Contracting & Civil Construction Co,
and Green Oasis General Contracting Co.
Extra Co Industries
Extra Co Industries is the newest addition to the group of companies. It consists of 120,000 m2 of land
where modern state-of-the-art factory units have been established. Although the establishment of the factory
units and the legal entity itself is new, the expertise is not. Extra Co
Industries is the evolvement of Extra Co‟s wealth of experience and
knowledge given that all of Extra Co‟s Metal Works Business Unit
manufacturing operations have been migrated to Extra Co Industries, in addition to a section of Fibreglass
Composite works. As such, Extra Co Industries is building upon Extra Co‟s many years of experience in the
Metal Works and Fibreglass Composites fields.
Extra Co Industries engages in direct sales and acts as a manufacturer for Extra Co. This setup allows
Extra Co to be a one-stop-shop for turnkey projects, as well as providing customers that have specific
targeted needs direct access to Extra Co Industries.
Al Badr Contracting & Civil Construction Co
Al Badr is the first established company in the group and has branches in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Ras
Al Khaimah. Al Badr deals with all types of construction works, including
infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and residential works. It has in-
house capabilities for civil, electrical, mechanical and plumbing works.
Green Oasis General Contracting Co
Green Oasis is the group‟s Dubai branch for construction works. Although Green Oasis deals with all
types of construction works, including infrastructure, industrial,

There are additional advantages that Extra Co‟s group enjoys,
particularly the vertical integration of the companies in the group, i.e. the
companies serve the same industries and the products and services are
complementary. This allows either of the companies to act as a one-stop
shop and take on turnkey projects. For example, Extra Co makes use of
its association with Al Badr or Green Oasis whenever any
complementary construction/infrastructure works are required for the
installation of its products (where the customer is unable to provide those
services). Similarly, Al Badr and Green Oasis make use of Extra Co for
the supply of industrial and building products, such as pipes for pipeline laying, precast elements for cladding
or structural components, steel elements for structural work, fibreglass tanks or lamination for storage works,
and many more. This setup ensures that coordination is seamless and compatibility is guaranteed; the result
is superior service.
1.4. Business Units & Divisions

2. Fibreglass Composites Business Unit
2.1. About Fibreglass Composites
Extra Co Fibreglass Composites Business Unit was the first Business Unit established in Extra Co over
30 years ago. It started out producing cylindrical water tanks and since then has grown to produce tens of
thousands of different fibreglass products. The Fibreglass Composites Business Unit is split into four
Divisions: Tanks & Vessels, Pipes & Fittings, Sewerage & Drainage
Products, and Miscellaneous Products & Services.
The specialized knowledge, workmanship experience, and
guaranteed quality of products and services, acquired over more than
30 years of operations in this field, are unparalleled. Whether it is an
industry standard FRP product, or a custom FRP product for a unique
application, Extra Co Fibreglass Composites Business Unit can
deliver.
2.2. Fibreglass Composites Accreditations
The following list includes some of the most prominent accreditations that Extra Co Fibreglass
Composites Business Unit holds:
ISO 9001:2008 certified for all products and services
WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) certified for GRP Sectional
Water Storage Tanks (Hot Press) Up To 50°C, GRP Pipes, GRP Pipe
Fittings, GRE Pipes (Hot and Cold), GRE Pipe Fittings (Hot and Cold)

& Double Walled), as per UL 1316
Germanischer Lloyd certified for GRP Fuel Storage Tanks
Warringtonfire certified for GRP Kiosks
2.3. Tanks & Vessels Division
The Tanks & Vessels Division manufactures many types of
tanks for different applications. The three main form factors of tanks
manufactured are: Cylindrical, Panel, and Custom.
Cylindrical FRP Tanks
Cylindrical tanks can be both horizontally or vertically oriented
based on the application. These tanks are either produced using a
pipe as the main body shell with base and end caps, or using the

Page | 8
hand-lay-up method (for horizontal tanks) with 2 pieces (top and bottom) casted separately and bolted
together. Flanges, fittings, brackets, separators, and other accessories are incorporated into the tanks at any
location specified by the customer for the required application. Platforms can also be fitted for tall vertical
tanks both internally and externally as per the functionality required. Custom colors can also be specified by
the customer if required.
Some examples of applications for cylindrical tanks include:
Water Tanks, Septic Tanks, & Soakaways
Fuel Tanks, Oil Tanks, & Chemical Tanks
Underground Holding Tanks
Bio-Scrubbers & UF Tanks
Pressure Vessels
Other Special Application Tanks
Panel FRP Tanks
Panel tanks are usually square or rectangle-shaped but, in some special circumstances, can also be L-
shaped or U-shaped. These tanks are composed of several hot-pressed FRP panels that are bolted together
to form the walls of the tank. As such, there is great flexibility in terms of the size of the tank that can be built.
This option is selected when the size of the tank is too large to be manufactured as a cylindrical/conventional
tank or to be transported safely/easily from the factory to the
destination. Panel tanks are also preferred (regardless of the
tank size) when the delivery time is tight. Since the panels are
pre-manufactured and stocked, only assembly is required so
the delivery time is relatively fast.
The most common application for Panel tanks is water
tanks, whether it is for smaller residential units or for larger
industrial complexes. These tanks have an edge over
conventional steel/aluminum tanks as they provide reliable,
safe and hygenic storage of drinking water.

Custom FRP Tanks
When the customer has a need for a tank in a non-standard shape for a specialized application, the
tank can be custom built.
Some examples of custom shaped tanks include:
Cylindrical Hopper Tanks
Rectangular/Square Hopper Tanks
V-Shaped Settling Tanks & Rectangular/Square Settling Tanks
2.4. Pipes & Fittings Division
The Pipes & Fittings Division employs two manufacturing processes for
FRP/RTRP Pipes; the discontinuous pipe manufacturing process, and the
continuous pipe manufacturing process. Each manufacturing process produces
pipes with different ranges of dimensions and technical characteristics for
particular applications. Fittings can be produced from pipes manufactured in
either of the processes (based on the application).
FRP/RTRP Pipes
Extra Co produces GRP (GP or ISO resin), GRV (Vinyl Ester resin), and
GRE (Epoxy resin) pipes based on the specifications required for their use.
The discontinuous FRP/RTRP pipe
manufacturing process (also known as
dual-helical filament winding process) involves winding the resin soaked
fibers onto a fixed position rotating mandrel of the required diameter (up
to 4m). The pipe is then left to cure and harden before it is extracted
from the mandrel. This manufacturing process limits the length of the
pipe to the length of the mandrel (usually 9m or 6m), and is a slower
process than the continuous manufacturing process. On the other hand,
this manufacturing process allows for both radial as well as helical
winding of the glass fibers onto the pipe which allows for achieving
EXTRA CO Fibreglass Composites
Fibre Glass & Prefab Houses L.L.C. Pipes & Fittings
Page | 10
different tensile and compressive strength characteristics suitable for addressing different applications of
varying pressure thresholds.
The continuous FRP/RTRP pipe manufacturing process
involves winding the resin soaked fibers onto a dynamic rotating
mandrel of the required diameter (up to 2.6m). The winding and
curing take place on the same mandrel but at different positions,
and the mandrel continuously and steadily “pushes” the pipe from
the winding area to the curing area and finally outside the mandrel.
The advantage of this manufacturing process is that the pipe can
be cut at any custom length and the production is significantly
faster. The limitation of this process is that only radial winding is
possible hence limiting the applications in which continuously
wound FRP/RTRP pipes can be used.
Some examples of applications for FRP/RTRP Pipes include:
Water Network Pipes (Drinking & Drainage)
Sewage Network Pipes
Oil & Gas Network Pipes
Odor Control Ducts
Water Impermeable Ducts
FRP/RTRP Spools & Fittings
Spools and fittings are produced from either
discontinuously wound pipes or continuously wound pipes,
depending on the application and specifications required.
The process is a manual one and requires cutting pipe
segments to the required angles and then joined to form the
fitting. Some fittings (particularly bends/elbows) are
produced by moulding using the filiament winding process.
The spools and fittings can be produced in GRP (GP or ISO
resin), GRV (Vinyl Ester resin), or GRE (Epoxy resin), and
can be in RTRP specifications. Extra Co also performs
stress, flexibility, and surge analyses (when required) for the
appropriate design specifications.
Some examples of spools and fittings include:
Bends (of Varying Degrees)
T-Connections & Y-Connections
Flanges
Factory Assembled/Pre-Fabricated Spools

2.5. Sewerage & Drainage Products Division
The Sewerage & Drainage Division produces all the components required for sewerage and drainage
systems. This includes Manholes & Chambers and Sewerage & Drainage Accessories.
FRP Manholes & Chambers
FRP Manhole liners can be produced in all shapes and sizes as well as any angle combinations of
inlets and outlets for the manhole benching. Extra Co also produces both single-wall and double-wall
manholes. The advantage of double-wall manholes is that they
can be installed very quickly by just lowering the manhole into
position and pouring concrete between the two walls to provide the
counterweight for the water table uplift force (avoiding all the
formwork otherwise required for the foundation of the manhole).
Similarly, Collection & Inspection Chambers are produced in
all shapes (circular, square,
rectangular) and sizes and as per the specifications and requirements of the
customer. Liner shafts can also be produced separately if required by the
customer.
In general liners, manholes, and chambers are produced using the
hand-lay-up manufacturing process to attain the often complex shapes,
dimensions, and angles required. Liners can sometimes be produced using
the continuous filament winding process or the discontinuous filament
winding process if their shapes are circular
and match the diameters of standard pipes.
Some of the sewerage and drainage products
produced include:
FRP Liners
Manholes (Diameters Up To 4m)
Collection Chambers
House Chambers
FRP Sewerage & Drainage Accessories
Many standard, as well as custom, accessories are produced for
sewerage and drainage systems to meet customer requirements. Some
examples include:
Gully Pots
Sealing Plates
Ladders
Safety Cages & Handrails

FRP Lamination Services
Extra Co provides on-site lamination services when
required by the customer. This is sometimes required when
there are concrete water/sewage/oil tanks or reservoirs that
need to be laminated with FRP to protect the walls of the
tanks and provide impermeability. Lamination is also
sometimes required in areas where surfaces need to be
protected for abrasive chemicals or liquids.

floor/ceiling panels can either be manufactured by Extra Co (if the
requested pattern is available) or sourced from other venders (by Extra Co
or by the customer) and installed by Extra Co hassle-free to the customer.
Raised floor systems are used to conceal the passage of electrical and mechanical services across the
ground. They are mainly used in specialized areas such as IT Data Centers or Computer Rooms where
considerable ground cable routing is required, but they can also be used for other purposes. Raised floors are
made up of two components; floor panels, and understructure. The standard panels are typically
600mmx600mm with a thickness of 40mm, with each panel weighing about
8.3kg. The standard panels are composed of a 1mm formica top sheet (holding
the face pattern of the panel), a 38mm chipboard filler, and a 1mm GI metal
sheet bottom. The standard panel sides are wrapped with 1.6mm of heavy duty
PVC for insulation and tight fit between the panels. Custom panels can also be
manufactured as per the customer requirements. The raised floor
understructure is composed of adjustable metal pedestals (35cm-100cm) and
interlocking metal stringers on which the panels will rest. The maximum load
bearing capacity of the raised floor system is 2425 kg/m2.
False ceiling systems are used to conceal the passage of electrical and mechanical services across the
ceiling. They are ideal for concealing HVAC ducts, piping, and electrical wiring while also having the HVAC air
supply/return vents, lighting, and alarms directly integrated in the
ceiling panels. False ceilings are made up of two components;
ceiling panels, and sub structure. The panels are typically
600mmx600mm with different design patterns, thicknesses,
compositions, and weights in accordance with the customer
requirements and taste. The metal sub structure is designed as per
the layout, size, and weight of the ceiling panels.

Dry Walls & Ceilings
Dry Walls & Ceilings are composed of
gypsum boards that are assembled together onto
a steel frame to form the walls or ceilings in the
design required. The gypsum boards are found in
standard sizes, but are cut and joined to form the
structures required. Drywalls are used to create
internal separations in halls or rooms without the use of concrete
blocks, mortar or wall-plaster. The advantage of Drywalls is that
they are quick to install and less messy than traditional methods of
wall-building, and at the same time Drywalls can be easily taken
down or moved to restructure internal space. Gypsum board
ceilings are similar to False-Ceilings in their use (to hide air-
conditioning ducts, piping, or other utility connections) but with the
feature of appearing similar to a regular flat and smooth concrete
ceiling.

4.5. Concrete Division
The Concrete Division manufactures and assembles different products as per the customer
requirements. The advantage of precast concrete is that it is a fast method of assembling concrete elements
instead of casting them in-situ, especially when the on-site
conditions do not allow for one-time casting of all the elements.
Moreover, it requires less manpower and less preparation to
assemble precast elements than to cast them in-situ. There are
also logistical benefits as well since there will be no need to
coordinate the procurement of cement, aggregate, sand, concrete
mixer, pump, etc… for casting an element; instead the complete
element can be procured ready for assembly. Extra Co‟s main
product ranges include Structural Precast Concrete and Decorative
Precast Concrete.

5.4. Re-Bar Cut & Bend Division
The Re-Bar Cut & Bend Division produces steel reinforcement bars and stirrups in the required lengths
and bent shapes for use in reinforced concrete structures. The production process is automated through the
use of specialized machinery to enable high volume production with minimum labor requirements. Extra Co
can procure the steel and process it for the customer for
a lump sum fee, or the customer can provide Extra Co
with the steel and only purchase the service for
processing the steel. Moreover, Extra Co can also
assemble meshes of reinforcement bars in the factory if
the customer requires.
The advantages of using factory-cut and bent steel reinforcement bars and stirrups are realized when it
comes to labor requirements, machinery requirements, waste steel, time, and quality consistency. There will
be less manpower requirements on site; labor is only required for putting the steel in place. There will be no
machinery requirement on site for cutting and bending of reinforcement steel. There will be less steel wastage
since the cutting is taking place in a controlled factory environment
where cutting patterns can be optimized. There will be significant time
saved since the automated factory can cut and bend many steel bars
in one go, and the automated cutting and bending activities
themselves are much faster than the manual ones. Finally, since the
cutting and bending is carried out on machines, the measurements
and consistency in the bending of multiple bars and stirrups will be
spot-on, which cannot be practically achieved in the manual process.
Steel Reinforcement Bars
Reinforcement bars processed at Extra Co vary from 8mm to
32mm in diameter with a maximum of 12m in length. The
manufacturing process is CNC-
controlled – 12m straight bars of
the required diameter are fed
into the machine while an
operator indicates the length
and bend pattern required; the
machine then cuts and bends
the bars accordingly.
Steel Reinforcement Stirrups
Reinforcement stirrups processed at Extra Co vary from 8mm to 12mm in diameter. The manufacturing
process is fully automated – the machine automatically pulls the required length of the stirrup from a steel coil,
bends according to the pattern fed by the machine operator, and cuts once the bending is complete. The cycle
continues until the steel coil is depleted – this process does not generate any steel waste.
