AgriPlastBW is made out of up to 75 % cellulose obtained from local meadow grass.

The cellulose is embedded in a thermoplastic matrix that can be made out of

PP, PE, PCL, recyclates, or out of biodegradable plastics.

Thanks to this unique combination AgriPlastBW has extraordinary characteristics

superior in many ways to conventional plastics.

Designers will find AgriPlast‘s fine-grained, natural-looking surface especially

attractive. And AgriPlastBW can be dyed like plastic into any colour you choose.

AgriPlastBW engineering will win you over with its remarkable resilience and versatility:

It’s easy to work with and equally suited for both injection moulding and extrusion.

AgriPlast NFPP 7525 /400 LM and AgriPlast NFPP 5050 /400 HM were tested in an

accredited laboratory according to the European standard EN 71 par t 3. The migra-

tions of 19 elements were tested, including heavy metals such as lead, arsenic and

mercury. For all 19 elements the migrations are under the approved limits, and for

eight elements even below the limit of determination. The tested AgriPlastBW therefore

fulfils the rigorous European «Toy Safety Standard».

outStAnDinG ProDuct FeAtureS: Superior in many ways to conventional plastics

The combination of thermoplastics with cellulose’s natural fibres gives AgriPlastBW

an extremely high level of dimensional stability at both high and low temperatures.

The reinforcement makes itself especially noticeable when used with PLA, LDPE and

PP in packaging.

The resilient natural fibres make for a greatly improved abrasion resistance, reducing

machine wear in mechanical engineering and building sectors.

A special processing allows the cellulose to work as a natural, environment-friendly

flame retardant for parts made with injection moulding.

Despite the high percentage of fibre, AgriPlastBW has a very good flow rate so that

it’s suitable for thin-walled mouldings as well – for example, stackable boxes or casings

for technical equipment.

AgriPlastBW comes in biodegradable and non-biodegradable variants – for example, for

use outdoors.

Ecologically and socially responsible

Closed-loop manufacturing means neither waste nor sewage is generated in the

production process and the products are 100 % recyclable. That’s the goal we aim for

here at Biowert.

In our worldwide one-of-a-kind biorefinery in Odenwald, we’re already generating our

heat and power by ourselves – and we even generate additional green power that we

then feed into the grid.

The water we use comes from processing meadow grass and biomass so that we

don’t need to take any water from the public water supply.

Our meadow grass comes from farmers in the region. These farmers ferment the grass

to silage, and then the silage is «washed» in our biorefinery with warm water until nothing

but pure cellulose remains. Out of that cellulose we manufacture innovative plastics and

insulation. Out of the «wash water» we make fertilizer.

In our relationships with our employees and business partners we also focus on

sustainability. We offer a long-term vision for the future and promote a lasting, viable

development of agriculture.

FirSt-clASS enVironmentAl PerFormAnce: AgriPlast BW reduces the ecological footprint

The most important environmental benefit AgriPlastBW offers is to replace petroleum-

based plastics with a renewable resource – cellulose.

AgriPlastBW is even more environment-friendly when the percentage of thermoplastics

is substituted with resource-saving alternatives, for example, with recyclates or

biodegradable plastics.

For the production of AgriPlastBW we only use meadow grass from the region.

AgriPlastBW is also lighter than comparable fibre-enforced composite plastics.

So additional energy is saved during transportation.

Biowert continually works to minimize its ecological footprint and resource

consumption. Our long-term goal is a complete circular economy.

Biorefineries will become increasingly more important in our future. In order to

establish a uniform standard the VDI has published the directive 6310 on the «Classi-

fication and quality criteria of biorefineries». The biorefinery from Biowert is a

unique forerunner in this field and for that reason is named in the directive as the

only practical example.
