Roadmap CR of Large Infrastructures

2010: LI CESNET included in the Roadmap CR •  The government approved e-infrastructure for R&D •  Supporting the operation and development •  Supporting communities of users with specific

requirements in the area of ICT e.g. : Large infrastructure (IT4I, ICRC, BIOCEV, ELI,

BIOMEDREG, CEITEC, CERIT-SC, CLARIN, ELIXIR,...)

Enabling advanced E2E services

CEF Networks Workshop 2014 6

•  Project Large Infrastructure CESNET upgrades the connection of R&D premises for providing advanced E2E services (photonic services, lambdas, etc.)

•  The upgrade is mostly realized through the lighting of fibres by CzechLight Open DWDM equipment and by the addition of physically diverse optical fibre lines

•  This connection enables the full participation of the R&D premises in national and international research collaboration using advanced services

•  Fibre footprint remains available for leading-edge applications (for example frequency transfer, remote control of unique scientific equipment etc.)

Dark fibre facility available in CESNET •  CESNET has dark fibre lines lighted by DWDM systems enabling

photonic services (all-optical lambdas) and experiments •  Such lines are mostly used also for parallel transmission of production

IP traffic in CESNET2 network, one line Praha-Brno is dedicated for full spectrum experiments

•  Dark fibre facility (DFF) summary: - Cisco DWDM deployment on 1 410 km

- CL Open DWDM on 3 650 km

- both usable for experiments •  6 100 km leased fibres •  Including 1 360 km of single fibre lines •  Including 3 fibre pair of CBF 530 km

Ongoing Implementation of new photonics services

For new applications •  Photonic Service is an all-optical end to end connection

without OEO conversion (except some special cases) •  End-to-end collaboration by forming a photonic channel

allows special applications •  All-optical end-to-end lambdas for new types of applications

like accurate time or frequency transfer, real time i.e with timeliness constraints

•  Photonic Services described in 2008 in Seattle –  http://www.glif.is/meetings/2008/rap/sima-lttx.pdf (p50)
