GENERAL
1.1
Scope
This Procurement Specification applies to low carbon steel sheet and strip as per Standards52806, 52807, 52811, 52812 and 52813) 0.1 to 3 mm nominal thickness, hot dip galvanized onone or both sides.
1.2
Application
Products covered herein are supplied in coils or cut lengths, and are normally used for compo-nents requiring good corrosion resistance on one or both sides (1S or 2S), good cold formability,and which are intended for cationic electrophoretic painting.
1.3
Coating process
Type 1S
Hot dip galvanizing on both sides followed by coating removal from one side, or hot “roll coating”on one side, or other process.
Type 2S
Hot dip galvanizing or “roll coating” on both sides.

(1) Hot dip galvanizing processes formerly designated as ZNT/F/1S and ZNT/F/2S, which denoted a 13mmminimum local coating thickness on one or both sides, are superseded by one-side or two-sidehot dip galvanizing with a nominal coating thickness of 14 mm.
(2) Drawing callout consists of two section designating material and coating respectively.
MaterialMaterial shall be selected on the basis of application and forming type, and shall comply with oneof the following Standards: 52806, 52807, 52811, 52812, 52813, 52814, 52809.
CoatingCoating designation consists of the following:
--- ZNT/F = Hot dip galvanizing;
--- 7,5; 10; 12; 14 = Nominal coating thickness in mm specified for each side;
--- 1S; 2S = One-side or two-side galvanizing.
Selection shall bemadeon thebasis of required corrosion resistance as compatiblewith othermanu-facturing requirements.

Low carbon quality steel for cold light, fine or difficult bending or drawing: may be specified in highstrength grades or not.

Unless otherwise specified, type of base steel required to manufacture a particular part shall be estab-lished by agreement between the parties concerned on order.
Mechanical properties and formabilty of semifinished product as supplied shall comply with the require-ments of the Standards covering the corresponding uncoated materials. Supplier shall implement allnecessary measures to ensure that semifinished product meets requirements. Such measures will de-pend on the type of processing equipment involved and may include use of degassed steels and/ortemper rolling on semifinished product use of Interstitial Free steels, etc.
3.2
Coated semifinished product
3.2.1
Dimensions
As per order.
3.2.2
Tolerances
As per P.S. 9.50240.
3.2.3
Marking
All semifinished products shall bear Supplier’s trademark or identification marking as specified in P.S.9.50240.
3.2.4
Visual inspection
Galvanized surfaces shall be a uniform grey in appearance and shall be free from lumps, bare spots,blisters, traces of flux or any other defects which could interfere with subsequent processing.
To minimize the crystalline configuration (frosting), semifinished product shall be of “MINIMIZEDSPANGLE” (lead-free zinc bath and/or temper rolling after coating and/or by other means).
Coating appearance reference standards are shown below in 1:1 scale.

Oiling
Surfaces of both 1S and 2S parts shall be oiled. Oil film appearance and protective efficiency shall com-ply with requirements of P.S. 9.50240.
3.2.6
Coating identification
As per P.S. 9.57405 Annex 1.

Coating chemical composition
Coating shall be ² 99 % Zn.

3.2.8
Coating thickness
Coating thickness shall be determined using one of the following methods:
--- Magnetic method as per Std. 50757 using Magne Gage tester, Microtest equivalent or equivalent;
--- Coulombmetric method as per Std. 50756 using Kocour equipment or equivalent;
--- Micrographic method as per Std. 50758.
Requirements are specified in § 2.
3.2.9
Reactivity of uncoated side (1S products)
Uncoated side shall meet the following requirements:
--- Surface shall be reactive to all conversion treatments (e.g. phosphate coating);
--- There shall be no traces of free zinc detectable using the coulombmetric method as per Std. 50756.
A thin iron zinc alloy layer of wiped coat is permissible; thickness shall not exceed 1.5 mm asmeasuredusing the coulombmetric method as per Std. 50756.
3.2.10
Coating adhesion
Subject a specimen ofmaterial to be tested to 180 deg bend as per Std. 50125. No coating flaking, spal-ling and/or cracking is allowed

Check on 150 x 70 mm specimens prepared as indicated in § 3.

3.2.12.2
After forming
After forming, corrosion resistance deteriorates as a function of the following parameters:
--- Drawability of base metal;
--- Thickness of specimen under test;
--- Type of drawing permitted by dimensions of available specimen (see Std. 50119).
Consequently, limits for deterioration in corrosion resistance shall be established by agreement be-tween Purchaser and Supplier.
However, it is advisable to carry out the following standard test to assess the plasticity of the coating inquestion:
--- Subject a 150 x 70 mm sheet panel to IE 21 drawing test as per Std. 50119, using a camber of6.5 mm for all material types and thickness;
--- Expose specimen to salt spray as per Std. 50180, Method A1 for the period indicated below.

3.2.13
Weldability
Hot dip galvanized sheet shall be weldable. Welding parameters used for bare sheet metal must be re-vised for coated sheet.
Suitabiliy for direct spots welding shall thus be guaranteed for all coating thicknesses contemplated bythis Procurement Specification.
For 1S galvanized products, suitability for indirect spot welding with active electrodes in contact withuncoated surface shall also be guaranteed.
Method for assessing weld efficiency is described in Procurement Specifications 9.50170 (arc welding)and 9.50171 (spot welding).
3.2.14
Paintability
3.2.14.1
Appearance
After complete paint cycle, appearance of galvanized sheet shall be identical to that of an uncoatedsheet subjected to the same paint cycle. To ensure that this requirement is met, Ra roughness averagedetermined as per Std. 01370/03 shall be as specified in P.S. 9.50240 for uncoated products.

3.2.14.2
Scab corrosion resistance
Test panels painted using the complete cycle and subjected to six months scab corrosion test as perStd. 50493/02 may show the following:
--- 1 mm max. corrosion creepback on each side of scribe lines and chips on coated surface.
--- 3 mm max. corrosion creepback on each side of scribe lines and chips on uncoated surface of 1Sproducts.
3.3
Forming requirements and inspection of finished part
3.3.1
Designer shall bear in mind the characteristics of semifinished product as indicated in § 3.2 and seq.when specifying forming process.
3.3.2
The following precautions should be taken during pressing so as not to impair protective capability ofcoating:
--- Any temporary protective oil shall be removed using normal production methods which do not dam-age coating;
--- Pressing lubricants shall not impair coating protective capability in any way;
--- Blanks and dies should always be thoroughly cleaned;
--- If stored for extended periods, formed parts shall be suitably protected.
3.3.3
Salt spray corrosion test as per Std. 50180, Method A1, with exposure periods as indicated in § 3.2.12.2,shall be carried out in order to assess any tendency to excessive deterioration of protective layer duringforming. No base metal corrosion is permitted after test.
3.3.4
Unless otherwise specified on drawing or agreed with Supplier, coated thickness shall be determinedon flat, non-deformed surfaces using one of the methods indicated in § 3.2.8.
Requirements are specified in § 2.

SUPPLY CONDITIONS
See requirements of P.S. 9.50240 and specific supply agreement for all supply conditions (coil mass,welds, packing, etc.) which are not detailed in this Procurement Specification.
5
MARKING
As per Procurement Specification 9.50240.
Unless otherwise specified in this P.S. additional requirements are as follows:
--- 1S galvanized products shall be marked on the coated surface;
--- 2S galvanized products with the same coating thickness on both sides shall be marked on the sideopposite to that assigned the higher appearance class (MB) during inspection;

--- 2S galvanized products with different coating thickness on each side shall be marked on the sidewith thicker coating. Marking shall be continuous and shall allow the identification of thicker coatingsurface on blank.

See P.S. 9.50240.

QUALITY AND CONFORMITY CERTIFICATE
Upon Purchaser request, Supplier shall enclose the Quality and Conformity certificate showing resultsof the following checks together with the shipping documents for each supply lot:
--- Minimum and maximum coating thickness;
--- Coating adhesion to base metal;
--- Appearance of coated surface;
--- Zinc check on uncoated side and any other check as required.

PRODUCT QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Subject component to the checks and tests specified in the paragraphs below. Compare test resultswith values indicated on design and/or Specifications Data Sheet relating to the type concerned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUPPLY INSPECTION(to be carried out by Plant Quality Acceptance Depts)
Supply inspection shall be carried out according to P.S. 9.01102/01 (Restricted Distribution).

SUPPLIER REQUIREMENTS
The Supplier(s) shall comply with the general requirements contained in P.S. 9.01102 “QUALITYOF SUPPLIES”.

Product Qualification Supplies
Unless otherwise specified or agreed. Supplier shall submit a qualification sample consisting of1m2of semifinished product of the required type. All requirements shall be checked and any pro-duction trials shall be carried out on this sample.

10.2
Product Supplies
The supplied product shall conform with drawing and this Specification.When establishing the manufacturing process to be adopted and severity of inspections, theSupplier shall take into account the classes of importance that FIAT has assigned to each of thecharacteristics to which requirements refer (See § 11).
