Mr. William B. Nunley, age 74 years, 9 months, died March 7, 1929,at 6:30 A.M. He was born inWarren Co., TN., June 7, 1855, the son of Willis and Elizabth "Betty" (Nunley) Nunley. Hismother died when he was 7 weeks old in 1855. On July 25, 1876, he was married to MissMinerva Isabel Whitlock in Warren Co., TN. They came to Texas in 1882 and settled nearCoryell Church where they remained for 8 years, moving to the Waldo community where theyhave resided for the past 38 years. He was a splendid Christian man, a member of the CoryellBaptist Church. He was converted at his home in 1886, and joined the church in 1887. He hadendeared himself to many as a father, neighbor, friend and citizen, and his death is mourned byall. Mr. Nunley is survived by his wife and six children, all of whom were at his bedside whendeath came. They are: John of Tahoka; Mrs. E.S. Kelton of Ovallo; Mrs. W. B. Edwards,Tahoka; Mrs. I. G. Holt of McGregor; W.T. Nunley of McGregor; and W. B. Nunley of this city(Crawford).Funeral services were held at Coryell Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Armstrong, assistedby Rev. Gipson, both former pastors of Coryell Baptist Church. Interment was in CoryellCemetery. Pallbearers were his 3 sons, two sons-in-law, and one grandson. Funeralarrangements were in charge of Mr. C. We do not know where William B. Nunley's (1855-1929)mother, Elizabeth "Betty" is buried, butit probably in the Nunley Cemetery in Northcutts Cove, Tennessee, since her brother, Jesse,gave the land for a Nunley cemetery. For sure Willis's father, Willam B. Nunley (1801-1889) isburied in Nunley Cemetery in Northcutts Cove, TN. FAG #28419332.

Nellie was born in Crawford, Texas, to the late James Obie and Sallie M. (Whitlock) Clemons.She attended school in Crawford and was on the basketball team. In 1926, she married TravisB. Kelton in Crawford. Throughout her life, Nellie would tell you that she worked hard. DuringWorld War II, she was employed at the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant in McGregor makingbombs and later as a sales lady at Cuenod's Dry Goods. She was always a good homemaker,mother and a very good cook and friend to everyone. In 1942, she moved to McGregor whereshe made her home until she moved to Waco in 1999 to live with her daughter. Nellie was aBaptist.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 70 years, Travis, on December 25, 1996; brothers,Clarice Clemons and J.O. Clemons; and sisters, Ora Sanders, Josie Lee Elder, Velma Smithand Willie Mattlage.

Survivors include daughter, Doris Kelton La Hue, of Waco; grandson, Dennis La Hue and wife,Renna, of Arnaudville, La.; great-granddaughter, Rebecca La Hue, of Arnaudville, La.; andgreat-grandson, Robby La Hue and wife, Jennifer, of Pearland.

Mrs. McCollum was preceded in death by her father.

Doyland Lewis was born May 9, 1942 in Tahoka, Texas. He was 66 years of age when hepassed from this life on October 21, 2008. He attended Tahoka Public Schools and was a 1960graduate of Tahoka High School. He attended Texas Tech University . He married KayHalamicek on July 21, 1962. After moving to San Angelo, Doyland farmed and owned severalSonic Restaurants. He also had a love for race horses and partnered with his son-in-law to trainand breed several winning ponies. Since 1990, he had bred 17 starters, seven winners, andearners from 25 foals.

Doyland is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter and son-in-law Pam and Bary McDaniel and theirthree children; and a son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Kerry Lewis and their two children.He was preceded in death by his mother, Mona Lewis in 1996.

The funeral was held on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo.

Julius Burton (J.B.) Godwin was born June 7, 1922, to Thomas Carl and Velma EdwardsGodwin, in Raleigh, N.C. As a young child he moved with his family to Vernon. He graduatedfrom Vernon High School. He married Betty Joycelyn Sparks in 1943 in Portland, Ore. Heserved in the 13th Air Force during WWII from 1939 to 1945 in the islands from Guadacanal tothe Philippines. He was a radio control operator both airborne and on ground. He received 13battle stars during his career. Following his discharge, he moved to Lubbock and later to Tuliawhere he owned Tulia Auto Parts. In 1970, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. where heowned Peak Auto Supply. He moved to Clarendon upon retirement. He was preceded in deathby a brother, James Arlen Godwin, and a grandson, Kenneth Edward Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Godwin of the home; brothers, Kenneth B. Godwin of Amarilloand Truman D. Godwin of Abernathy; sister, Doris Koshers of East Meadow, N.Y.; son, Carl L.Godwin of Amarillo; daughter, Joycelyn Moore and husband Larry of Happy; grandsons, ToddBryan and wife Dawn of Happy and Dennis L. When his father got sick in 1957, Arlen gota compassionate transfer to Reese AFB in Lubbock to help the family out with his dad. After hisdad died Arlen stayed on at Reece Air Force Base until discharged in 1960.

Arlen married Barbara Kay Eastham on June 15, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas. They had threedaughters, Zenda Lenee, Kimberly Zoe, and Gala Denise. Arlen was working as a trafficcontroller at the Amarillo Airport at the time of his death on September 17, 1980.

Arlen is survived by his immediate family and his brothers, Kenneth, Truman, and J. B. Godwin,and a sister, Doris Koshers, as well as many nieces,nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He moved to Denver City from New Home in 1960.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tahoka and First Baptist Church in Denver City.

Survivers include a son, Don Mac Edwards of Denver City, a step-son, James Ernest Varnerof Ft. Worth, a brother, Wilson Edwardsof Lubbock, and a sister, Irma Faye Danklefsof Lubbock.

He married Lola Belle Edwards, daughter of William Burton and Susan Belle NunleyEdwards on December 11, 1936, in Clovis, New Mexico. They lived in Lubbock for many yearsbefore moving to Taos and then to Denver. Lola preceded Joe in death on May 20, 1981. Joemoved back to Lubbock before moving to Taos in 1997 to live with his daughter, VirginiaMcDermott.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Bill; a granddaughter, Tracy; and a great-granddaughter, Adrienne. He was preceded in death by another granddaughter, Mitzi, in 1997(Find A Grave Memorial #75173184). He was a precious "Grandy" to his granddaughters.

The family suggests memorials to the Children's Home of Lubbock.

He died a fewdays after telling his family that the Big Man came to see him and told him that he was going tocome and get him, but he was not to be scared. At the time of his death, Arby had two brothers,James Carlice and John Boswell, and he had four sisters. They were Velma Irene, EuniceMabel, Lola Belle and Irma Faye. It has taken the family several years to find out the exact dateof his birth and death, but now we can replace the crumbled headstone for our "Little Arby".August 6, 2010, Arby received a new headstone as a loving gift from his adult nieces andnephews.

Wilson is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Craig and Candy ofFloydada, Tx., two grandchildren, Chad Edwards and Shannon Beard, and nine great-grandchildren.Wilson will always be remembered for his love of family and his wonderful sense of humor andhis unique laugh. He was loved by all.Graveside services were held at the Tahoka Cemetery on June 14, 2010, with his great-grandson Jared Beard officiating. Zenda Benton, a niece, sang "How Great Thou Art" and wasjoined by all the nieces and nephews singing "Amazing Grace".

Mr. William B. Nunley, age 74 years, 9 months, died March 7, 1929,at 6:30 A.M. He was born inWarren Co., TN., June 7, 1855, the son of Willis and Elizabth "Betty" (Nunley) Nunley. Hismother died when he was 7 weeks old in 1855. On July 25, 1876, he was married to MissMinerva Isabel Whitlock in Warren Co., TN. They came to Texas in 1882 and settled nearCoryell Church where they remained for 8 years, moving to the Waldo community where theyhave resided for the past 38 years. He was a splendid Christian man, a member of the CoryellBaptist Church. He was converted at his home in 1886, and joined the church in 1887. He hadendeared himself to many as a father, neighbor, friend and citizen, and his death is mourned byall. Mr. Nunley is survived by his wife and six children, all of whom were at his bedside whendeath came. They are: John of Tahoka; Mrs. E.S. Kelton of Ovallo; Mrs. W. B. Edwards,Tahoka; Mrs. I. G. Holt of McGregor; W.T. Nunley of McGregor; and W. B. Nunley of this city(Crawford).Funeral services were held at Coryell Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Armstrong, assistedby Rev. Gipson, both former pastors of Coryell Baptist Church. Interment was in CoryellCemetery. Pallbearers were his 3 sons, two sons-in-law, and one grandson. Funeralarrangements were in charge of Mr. C. We do not know where William B. Nunley's (1855-1929)mother, Elizabeth "Betty" is buried, butit probably in the Nunley Cemetery in Northcutts Cove, Tennessee, since her brother, Jesse,gave the land for a Nunley cemetery. For sure Willis's father, Willam B. Nunley (1801-1889) isburied in Nunley Cemetery in Northcutts Cove, TN. FAG #28419332.

Nellie was born in Crawford, Texas, to the late James Obie and Sallie M. (Whitlock) Clemons.She attended school in Crawford and was on the basketball team. In 1926, she married TravisB. Kelton in Crawford. Throughout her life, Nellie would tell you that she worked hard. DuringWorld War II, she was employed at the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant in McGregor makingbombs and later as a sales lady at Cuenod's Dry Goods. She was always a good homemaker,mother and a very good cook and friend to everyone. In 1942, she moved to McGregor whereshe made her home until she moved to Waco in 1999 to live with her daughter. Nellie was aBaptist.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 70 years, Travis, on December 25, 1996; brothers,Clarice Clemons and J.O. Clemons; and sisters, Ora Sanders, Josie Lee Elder, Velma Smithand Willie Mattlage.

Survivors include daughter, Doris Kelton La Hue, of Waco; grandson, Dennis La Hue and wife,Renna, of Arnaudville, La.; great-granddaughter, Rebecca La Hue, of Arnaudville, La.; andgreat-grandson, Robby La Hue and wife, Jennifer, of Pearland.

Mrs. McCollum was preceded in death by her father.

Mrs. Edwards diedin the Lubbock Memorial Hospital at 1 A.M., Friday, Feb. 22, 1946 from a heart attack.Services were conducted by Rev. C. J. McCarty, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Lubbock,and two former pastors of Tahoka, Rev. B.N. Shepherd and Rev. George A. Dale.Pallbearers were 3 sons, Carlice, Boswell, and Wilson Edwards, J. B. Godwin (a nephew), abrother, Wesley Nunley, and Clarence Price. Deacons of the First Baptist Church werehonorary pallbearers.Survivors include her husband, W. B. Theycame to Lynn Co., in November 1906, buying land in the Three Lakes Community, Lynn Co.They settled on this farm, later moved to Tahoka and then back to the farm where they liveduntil 2 years ago when they moved to Lubbock, Tx.Mrs. Edwards was converted and joined the Baptist Church during her girlhood, and lived adevoted Christian life. She was a most helpful companion to her husband, who was a deacon atFirst Baptist Church for 17 years.The wilderness of flowers gave an indication of the esteem in which she was held.

Doyland Lewis was born May 9, 1942 in Tahoka, Texas. He was 66 years of age when hepassed from this life on October 21, 2008. He attended Tahoka Public Schools and was a 1960graduate of Tahoka High School. He attended Texas Tech University . He married KayHalamicek on July 21, 1962. After moving to San Angelo, Doyland farmed and owned severalSonic Restaurants. He also had a love for race horses and partnered with his son-in-law to trainand breed several winning ponies. Since 1990, he had bred 17 starters, seven winners, andearners from 25 foals.

Doyland is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter and son-in-law Pam and Bary McDaniel and theirthree children; and a son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Kerry Lewis and their two children.He was preceded in death by his mother, Mona Lewis in 1996.

The funeral was held on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo.

Julius Burton (J.B.) Godwin was born June 7, 1922, to Thomas Carl and Velma EdwardsGodwin, in Raleigh, N.C. As a young child he moved with his family to Vernon. He graduatedfrom Vernon High School. He married Betty Joycelyn Sparks in 1943 in Portland, Ore. Heserved in the 13th Air Force during WWII from 1939 to 1945 in the islands from Guadacanal tothe Philippines. He was a radio control operator both airborne and on ground. He received 13battle stars during his career. Following his discharge, he moved to Lubbock and later to Tuliawhere he owned Tulia Auto Parts. In 1970, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. where heowned Peak Auto Supply. He moved to Clarendon upon retirement. He was preceded in deathby a brother, James Arlen Godwin, and a grandson, Kenneth Edward Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Godwin of the home; brothers, Kenneth B. Godwin of Amarilloand Truman D. Godwin of Abernathy; sister, Doris Koshers of East Meadow, N.Y.; son, Carl L.Godwin of Amarillo; daughter, Joycelyn Moore and husband Larry of Happy; grandsons, ToddBryan and wife Dawn of Happy and Dennis L. Bryan and wife Stephanie of Happy; and great-grandchildren, Seth, Maci, Kole, Kenna, and Karson Bryan.

James Arlen Godwin was born January 15, 1936 in Vernon, Texas, to Thomas Carl and VelmaIrene Edwards Godwin. Arlen went to the U. S. Air Force in 1956, went to Air Traffic ControllerSchool, and was assigned to Madill AFB in Florida. When his father got sick in 1957, Arlen gota compassionate transfer to Reese AFB in Lubbock to help the family out with his dad. After hisdad died Arlen stayed on at Reece Air Force Base until discharged in 1960.

Arlen married Barbara Kay Eastham on June 15, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas. They had threedaughters, Zenda Lenee, Kimberly Zoe, and Gala Denise. Arlen was working as a trafficcontroller at the Amarillo Airport at the time of his death on September 17, 1980.

Arlen is survived by his immediate family and his brothers, Kenneth, Truman, and J. B. Godwin,and a sister, Doris Koshers, as well as many nieces,nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He moved to Denver City from New Home in 1960.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tahoka and First Baptist Church in Denver City.

Survivers include a son, Don Mac Edwards of Denver City, a step-son, James Ernest Varnerof Ft. Worth, a brother, Wilson Edwardsof Lubbock, and a sister, Irma Faye Danklefsof Lubbock.

Interment followed at theTahoka Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home.Mrs. Edwards died February 15, 2008, in Round Rock, Texas. She was born July 27, 1917 to J.R. and Bessie Strain in Mitchell County, Texas. The family moved to Lynn County in 1920.Margaret married John Boswell Edwards, son of Burton and Belle Edwards on January 1, 1935in Lubbock. She was a very active member of the community and the Baptist Church working inSunday School, W.M.U., and serving on the Building Committee. She enjoyed her friends,being a mother and grandmother, and sewing and cooking. She is a former member of theTahoka Phebe K. Warner Study Club.Margaret moved to Pflugerville, Texas, in November of 1999. She has lived the last 8 months atCourt of Round Rock and enjoyed the many activities available, including the Sing-A-Longs,exercise class, board games, Bible Study, auctions and church services. She made many newfriends there and was able to enjoy her childlren, grandchldren, and great-grandchildren.Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband on December 9, 1983, and their son,Larry Strain Edwards, on May 16, 1997. Suvivors include a son, John Lynn Edwards and wife,Marlene, of Poulsbo, Washington; a daughter, Sylvia McDonald and husband, Frank, ofPflugerville, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Mary Edwards Zumwalt of Murphy, Texas, sevengrandchildren, Scott, Christopher, and Amanda Edwards, Laurie Martin, Christie Barnes, RossMcDonald, and Shelley Ledyard; and 11 great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to New Home Baptist Church in New Home, Texas, and First BaptistChurch, Round Rock, at 306 Round Rock Ave., Round Rock, Texas 78664.

Larry was the son of John Boswell and Mary Margaret Strain Edwards. He married Mary LeeCarpenter on January 25, 1963, in Snyder, Texas. They had two daughters, Laurie Lee andChristie DeAnn. Larry loved to sing and a favorite song was "His Eye is on the Sparrow". Hewas an active member at First Baptist in Garland and was loved so much by everyone whoselife he touched. His delight was his grandsons. His favorite scripture was Isaiah 40:31 "Theythat wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength".

Services were held for Lola Belle Edwards Boles at 2 P.M., Friday, May 22, 1981, under thedirection of Sanders Funeral Home at the Sanders Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. She passedaway on May 20 in Denver, Colorado. Dr. J. Ralph Grant, former pastor of First Baptist Churchin Lubbock, and long time family friend, officiated.

Lola was born on October 9, 1911, in Lynn County, to William Burton and Susan Belle NunleyEdwards. She married Joe Walter Boles on December 11, 1936, in Clovis, New Mexico. Theylived in Lubbock for many years before moving to Taos, N. M., and then to Denver, Colo.

Lola Boles was survived by her husband, Joe Boles, of the home; a daughter, VirginiaMcDermott and husband, Bill (Memorial #72874807); two granddaughters, Tracy and MitziHowell(Find A Grave Memorial #75173184); and brothers: Carlice, Boswell, and Wilson; andsisters, Irma Danklefs and Velma Godwin. She was preceded in death by her parents and asister, Eunice Lewis, and two little brothers, Arby and Dwight Edwards.

Her nephews were the casket bearers. She was buried at the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Parkin Woodrow, Texas (Cooper).

Arrangements are under direction of Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home in Taos.

He died Friday, March 26, 1999, at his home in Taos.

Joe Boles was born in Post, Texas, on October 1, 1912 to James Walter and Ethel BrazellBoles. He married Lola Belle Edwards, daughter of William Burton and Susan Belle NunleyEdwards on December 11, 1936, in Clovis, New Mexico. They lived in Lubbock for many yearsbefore moving to Taos and then to Denver. Lola preceded Joe in death on May 20, 1981. Joemoved back to Lubbock before moving to Taos in 1997 to live with his daughter, VirginiaMcDermott.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Bill; a granddaughter, Tracy; and a great-granddaughter, Adrienne. He was preceded in death by another granddaughter, Mitzi, in 1997(Find A Grave Memorial #75173184). He was a precious "Grandy" to his granddaughters.

The family suggests memorials to the Children's Home of Lubbock.

Arby Nunley Edwards was the son of William Burton and Susan Belle Edwards. He died a fewdays after telling his family that the Big Man came to see him and told him that he was going tocome and get him, but he was not to be scared. At the time of his death, Arby had two brothers,James Carlice and John Boswell, and he had four sisters. They were Velma Irene, EuniceMabel, Lola Belle and Irma Faye. It has taken the family several years to find out the exact dateof his birth and death, but now we can replace the crumbled headstone for our "Little Arby".August 6, 2010, Arby received a new headstone as a loving gift from his adult nieces andnephews.

They were married over 65 years before her death on May 15, 2005.Wilson spent most of his life working the land and farming. Wilson and Polly lived in Plains,Texas, for 10 years where he was Deputy Sheriff of Yoakum County in the 80ies. Later heworked for over 12 years as a Sheriff's Deputy for the Lubbock County Sheriff's Dept. until hisretirement. Wilson is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Craig and Candy ofFloydada, Tx., two grandchildren, Chad Edwards and Shannon Beard, and nine great-grandchildren.Wilson will always be remembered for his love of family and his wonderful sense of humor andhis unique laugh. He was loved by all.Graveside services were held at the Tahoka Cemetery on June 14, 2010, with his great-grandson Jared Beard officiating. Zenda Benton, a niece, sang "How Great Thou Art" and wasjoined by all the nieces and nephews singing "Amazing Grace".
