    =========I. Story=========

    ***WARNING*** Spoilers for the original game WILL be in this section, since it is rather difficult to describe the story without spoiling a bit

    of it.

    Seventeen long years have passed since the events of Final Fantasy IV. Ceciland Rosa, now the King and Queen of the kingdom of Baron, have a son whose nameis Ceodore (likely named after Cecil himself, and his brother, Theodor). He isa 17-year-old boy who is, when the game begins, on a mission with Biggs andWedge (two members of the Red Wings of Baron) to become a member of the RedWings himself. Things quickly become hectic, however... Just as he becomes anofficial member of the Red Wings, the trio notices Baron Castle has beeninvaded. Not only that, but practically everyone throughout the world hasnoticed that the Red Moon (the one Golbez and Fusoya are from) has been splitin two once more. Things are no longer the same, monsters are reappearing, and

    a new villain has risen... The "Mysterious Girl". Events of the past arerepeating themselves. And so, this is where our journey begins.

    =================III. Game Basics=================

    In this section, I will tell you about the basics of the game. If this is yourfirst time playing a JRPG, I suggest you read up on this section before youstart playing.

    --------------------------The In-game Character Menu--------------------------

    Here, I will explain what each selection on the character menu is for.

    Item----

    Self-explanatory. This screen allows you to use an item in your inventory. Notall items can be used outside of battle, just like certain items can't be usedin a battle. You can also sort your items by selecting Organize, and can scroll

    through the item list quickly by holding B and using the D-Pad, with a WiiRemote. For a Classic Controller, press L and R.

    Magic-----

    Also self-explanatory. This brings up the spell list for the characterscurrently in your party, if anyone has any. You can use recovery and othersupportive spells from this screen as well, with some exceptions (such asProtect, Shell, and Haste).

    Bands-----

    New to the sequel of FFIV are a type of attacks known as a "Band". It's aco-operative attack, and because of that, it takes up more than one character'sturn to use. You can either experiment on your own to find out what charactersare capable of doing Band attacks, or you can take the easy route and refer tothe section for them in this guide and find them out that way. Anyways,selecting Band from the menu allows you to select a character, where you cansee his/her Band list, the MP cost (each one costs a certain amount of MP, not

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    5/411

    shared between characters), and who you have to use to perform them. Also,Bands are a lot more powerful than a normal attack, making them really useful.

    Equip-----

    As you probably guessed, this allows you to equip your characters. You caneither equip them individually or select Optimize, which automatically givesthat character the best possible equipment that you have available.

    Status------

    Displays the status of a chosen character. Here you can see how much EXP thecharacter needs until the next level, the stats, and more.

    Party-----

    Simply allows you to switch a character's position in your current party. Itsmain use is to put them in certain slots so the character will be in the front

    or back row.

    Formation---------

    Switches the rows your characters will be in while fighting. By default, slots1, 3, and 5 are front row slots, while 2 and 4 are back row slots. It's prettyuseful in certain situations.

    Settings--------

    Brings up a screen where you can, in this order, change the Battle Mode (Waitor Active), Battle Speed (3 is the default), Battle Messages (3 is the defaulthere too), and Window Color. Continuing on, you can select Adjust Screen tohave the game's screen fit the size of your TV's screen, you can go to Languageto change the language of the game, and under Controller Assignment, you canchange which player (up to 4) controls which character(s). Finally, Return toTitle takes you back to the title screen, and does *not* save any progress, sotake caution when selecting this option.

    Quicksave---------

    Allows you to save your game on the spot. Obviously you can't choose it in abattle, though. However, the game will immediately end and return to the titlescreen. Choose "Quickload" from the title screen menu whenever you want to loadthat particular file again. When you load it, your Quicksave file will go away.Similarly, if you use Quicksave on another file, then it will overwrite yourcurrent one. This is mainly used if you have no way of saving it any time soonand have to be in a hurry for something. Or if you just want to quit but aren'tnear a save point, and don't feel like looking for/going back to one.

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    6/411

    Save----

    Allows you to save your game onto a file. There are a total of 30 save files.You can only save with this method while on the world map or at a save point,and the game won't end when you do. The file stays there unless you overwriteit, and you can reload it at any time from the title menu screen. Also, I willmake note of this now: MAKE SURE YOU SAVE EACH TALE ON A SEPERATE FILE! Youwill *not* be able to import data from all of them into the final chapter,otherwise. You've been warned.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ---------------Battle Overview---------------

    The battle system is quite simple, actually, but I'll explain it here anyway,for those of you who are new to the Final Fantasy series (although if that'sthe case, you should really quit reading this and go play the original FFIVbefore playing this game). Here is a list of commands and such (basically, allof the basics) that you'll be needing info on:

    Fight-----

    Your primary command for attacking enemies. Use it and the character will usehis/her weapon to attack the enemy. Most characters have useful weapons, butcertain characters with certain weapons (Porom with staves, for example) dealvery little damage, so you're probably better off using magic or something ifthis is the case. It pretty much only applies to mages.

    Black Magic-----------

    Who doesn't know what magic is? Anyway, you use this command to bring up a listof black magic spells a character has. Select one to use it, at a cost of MagicPoints (MP). One of the most useful commands in the game (possibly *the* mostuseful), black magic can really save your skin and help you win battles a lotfaster than you would otherwise.

    White Magic-----------

    This is the same thing as black magic, but white magic focuses mainly onsupportive/restorative spells for your party.

    Hit Points----------

    Your character's life energy. Hit Points (HP) usually start out at a rather lownumber, and increase as you gain levels. If a character's HP is depleted tozero in any way, s/he will be KO'd, and you'll have to use a Phoenix Down or aLife spell to bring the character back. If the entire party reaches zero HP,you will get a Game Over and will have to restart from where you last saved.

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    7/411

    Your HP can be recovered with recovery items (Potions, Elixirs, etc.) or Curespells.

    Magic Points------------

    Similar to HP, Magic Points (MP) are required to cast any spell or use anyBand. However, you'll always have significantly less MP compared to your HP,and each character's MP caps at 999. If it is depleted, you have to use certainrecovery items (Ethers, Elixirs, etc.).

    Experience Points-----------------

    These are what your characters will get after each battle (EXP). You can seehow much points a character needs for the next level on the Status screen. Whenyou gain the required amount of points, you go up a level. The absolute maximumlevel is 99 for everyone, which can only be reached in the final chapter.

    Using Bands, Defending, and Swapping Rows-----------------------------------------

    While in a battle, when one of your character's turns comes up, press Right onthe D-Pad to reveal three extra commands: Band, Defend, and Swap Rows. Bandallows you to perform a co-operative attack with one or more extra charactersto deal a significant amount of damage to enemies. Refer to the Band Listsection of this guide for details.

    Back Attack-----------

    This may occur when you get into a random encounter. It's where you're on theopposite side of the screen and the enemies are on the other side. You also

    deal less damage with physical attacks this way, but similarly, physical damageis reduced as well.

    Surprise!---------

    Similar to Back Attacks, only you won't necessarily be attacked from behind,and none of your characters will get the first turn. The enemies will alwaysattack first, and this can get really annoying fast. You will find that ithappens way more often than it should, although this is probably because of theway the RNG (Random Number Generator) is for this game.

    Preemptive Strike-----------------

    This is the opposite of Surprise Attacks, basically. When the battle starts,your party gets the first turn, and unless you wait too long, the enemies willnot attack until you're finished pounding them with attacks.

    Lunar Cycle

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    8/411

    -----------

    I felt this was the most appropriate section to include this in the guide. Inthis game, the Red Moon will go through a few cycles. Depending on what itcurrently looks like, some positive and/or negative things will happen. Forexample, certain phases of the moon will make Black Magic more powerful, butphysical attacks will be weaker. It's an interesting addition and allows forsome slight strategy. The phase will change every time you use a Tent or aCottage, or rest at an Inn, so it can easily be abused. It also changes everythirty minutes in game time, but the timer does NOT go up if paused in-battle.The cycle goes like so:

    New MoonPhysical Attacks: N/ASpecial Attacks: +25%White Magic: -25%Black Magic: N/A

    Waxing MoonPhysical Attacks: N/ASpecial Attacks: N/AWhite Magic: +25%Black Magic: -25%

    Full MoonPhysical Attacks: -25%Special Attacks: N/AWhite Magic: N/ABlack Magic: +25%

    Waning MoonPhysical Attacks: +25%Special Attacks: -25%Black Magic: N/AWhite Magic: N/A

    And after Waning Moon, it goes back to New Moon, and the cycle repeats. Thephase of the moon also determines what enemies you'll find in certain areas, soit adds a certain sense of uniqueness in this game and JRPGs in general. Justuse a Tent (don't waste a perfectly good Cottage!) to change it to the cycleyou desire if you're feeling cheap. =P

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------Status Effects--------------

    Throughout the course of the game, many enemies and bosses will use negativestatus effect spells on you. This can get really annoying, so if it happens,use an item or spell to cure it as fast as possible! I will list all of thenegative and positive status effects in the game below.

    Poison------

    Probably one of the most annoying status effects in the game. When Poison is

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    9/411

    cast upon a party member, s/he takes damage each turn. It can be a lot, too,so watch out. Also, if a battle ends with a party member poisoned, when youwalk/run, the poison will take affect on the party member. If you get poisoned,be sure to use an Antidote as soon as you can to cure it. Tents/Cottages alsocure it.

    Confusion---------

    This status effect can get annoying, as well. Certain enemies can do stuff thatwill cause a party member to go confused. While a party member is confused, heor she will attack a party member or enemy automatically, at his or her ownwill, when his or her turn comes up. However, if an enemy hits the partymember, s/he gets out of confusion (you could also hit the confused partymember yourself to break him/her out of confusion). The effect wears off aftera battle. However, keep in mind that using spells on the confused characterwill *not* cure this (only physical attacks will work).

    Blind-----

    When enemies cast this upon a party member, you'll see that the party member

    has black eyes. What Blind does is decrease the chance you have of hitting anenemy with your normal attack, but not magic attacks. It can get quite annoyingif it is casted upon attackers like Yang, because you only have around a 50%chance of hitting an enemy. A status-recovering spell or item will cure this.The effect wears off after a battle.

    Curse-----

    This is similar to Blind, but it doesn't decrease the chance you have ofhitting an enemy. Instead, it lowers your attack by a bit. You will be able totell if a party member has the Curse status inflicted on them by a skull above

    their head. They will also be kneeling on the ground with the skull above theirhead if they have Curse on them. Like usual, use any status-recovering spell oritem to cure this. The effect wears off after a battle.

    Silence-------

    This is one of the worst status effects you can get on you, for a magic user.If this is casted upon someone who can use magic, s/he cannot use magic untilthe status effect has been cured. In order to cure it, use a status-recoveringitem or spell, like most other status effects in the game.

    Petrify-------

    This is similar to Stone, but you will be petrified instantly! If this happens,you should cure it as soon as possible. If your entire party is petrified, youwill get a Game Over.

    Pig

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    10/411

    ---

    If this is casted upon a party member, he/she gets turned into a pig (kindalike being turned into an Imp in Final Fantasy VI). When you're a pig, youcannot use any special battle commands (like Ninjutsu) or White/Black Magic.The only Black Magic spell useable is Esuna, which turns you back into a human.Just use a status-recovering item/spell to get rid of this effect. The effectstill lasts after a battle, however!

    Haste-----

    A positive status effect! Haste is excellent, and you'll find yourself usingthe spell very often whenever it is available to you. It doubles the speed ofyour characters, and is also a counter to Slow.

    Slow----

    Possibly one of the worst status effects you can have on someone. When this isinflicted on you, the party member it is inflicted on will get his/her turnslower than usual. However, the reverse is also true: Slow works on most

    enemies and bosses. Never forget that; it is an extremely useful spell! If thisis inflicted on a party member, you can override it using Haste.

    Protect-------

    This is also a really useful spell. It raises your physical defense by acertain amount. However, unlike a lot of Final Fantasy games in the series, youmust apply this spell *four* times for it to reach its maximum potential. Thesame also applies to Shell.

    Shell-----

    Similar to Protect, this spell creates a shield around your party member(s)that increases magic defense by a certain amount. Also like Protect, you mustapply it four times for it to have a full effect.

    Sleep-----

    When a party member is asleep, s/he cannot have a turn until s/he is hit, or qacuring item/spell is used on him/her. Be sure to recover this effect as soon as

    you can if it is inflicted on anybody (hit the asleep character with someoneelse who is weak in strength).

    Stop----

    If this is inflicted onto any party member, the party member in question willhave stopped completely, for a few turns. S/he will not be able to make a turnfor quite a bit. Beware of this; if it is cast, immediately cure it before the

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    11/411

    party member ends up dead.

    Stone-----

    This is sort of like Petrify, only it takes longer for it to actually takeeffect. When someone casts this on a party member, only his/her legs will becovered in stone. However, as time passes, the stone covers up even more of thebody. This also happens if the enemy inflicts the Stone effect on the partymember again. If the stone covers up the whole body, the party member will notbe able to move. Use a status-recovering item/spell to cure it. Just like withPetrify, you'll get a Game Over if everyone manages to become stoned (althoughthere's not a very good chance of this happening).

    Tiny----

    This is pretty much like Pig. When this is inflicted on a party member, s/hewill become very small, and look like a baby. In this state, you can't use anyform of magic or special abilities. Use a status-recovering item or spell tocure this.

    Toad----

    This is pretty much like Pig as well. When this is inflicted on a party member,s/he will become a frog, and will not be able to use any form of magic orspecial abilities, except for Esuna. Simply use a status-recovering item orspell to get rid of this.

    Doom----

    A deadly status effect, but it's a rare one at that. When a foe uses this on aparty member, s/he will have a countdown timer above their head. When/if thetimer reaches zero, the party member immediately falls. This status effectcannot be cured, but the effect wears off after a battle.

    Paralyze--------

    When a party member is paralyzed, s/he has lines on his/her body. When youare paralyzed, that party member cannot move at all. If all four party membersbecome paralyzed, you get a Game Over. Use any status-recovering spell or itemto get rid of this effect. This effect automatically wears off after a battle.

    Berserk-------

    Berserk is actually a good status effect. When used, it allows your partymember to attack a random enemy automatically, but the power of the attack isincreased. In other words, it's a more powerful Fight command. It's prettyuseful for fighters like Cecil, or Yang. It can't be cured with any statusrecovering item or spell, however.

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    12/411

    Float-----

    Float allows a party member to avoid any ground attacks, like Quake. It isactually quite useful. It's useable in battle and out of battle. Outside ofbattle, the effect will wear off as soon as you enter a new area. In battle,if this is casted upon a party member, s/he will be floating in the air. Useany status recovering item or spell to cure this.

    Reflect-------

    When this is casted upon a party member, any magic spells used by an enemy orally will be reflected back onto an enemy. However, the downside is that ifyou use a Cure spell on the Reflected ally, the spell will backfire and recoveran enemy instead! Be careful when using it.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ===============IV. Characters===============

    ***WARNING*** This section *WILL* contain spoilers, for both the original game and this one. Read at your own risk.

    In this section, I will list all of the permenant characters in the game (nottemporary ones such as the White Mage), with the exception of one, along withinformation about them and such.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ==============Ceodore Harvey==============

    Class: Prince / Red WingsAge: 17

    Biography: Ceodore is the son of Cecil and Rosa, the King and Queen of Baron. He is likely named after his father and Golbez's real name, Theodor. At the beginning of the game, he is sent to training with two Baron soldiers named Biggs and Wedge to become an official member of the Red Wings. He is an overall decent character, but starts off rather

    weak, in strength and in defense. It's only when he gets into the higher levels that he really starts becoming a bit useful. He can also use White Magic, much like his father.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    White Magic

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    13/411

    -----------

    Ceodore's White Magic is decent, and definitely better than Cecil's (both inthis game and the previous one). Like everyone who uses magic, he learns morespells by level:

    Level 1 - CureLevel 5 - LibraLevel 12 - ProtectLevel 14 - RaiseLevel 15 - CuraLevel 20 - EsunaLevel 25 - FloatLevel 34 - ShellLevel 40 - BlinkLevel 45 - ReflectLevel 47 - HasteLevel 49 - Curaga

    Awaken------

    This ability causes Ceodore to awaken some of his Lunarian power within him.

    With it, all of his stats are doubled for three turns, and his HP is fullyrestored. After three turns or if you end the battle, his stats return tonormal and his HP is reduced to single digits. Take extreme caution when usingthis ability.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ============Cecil Harvey============

    Class: Paladin

    Age: 37

    Biography: The main protagonist of the prequel (but not this game), Cecil is now the official King of Baron after disposing of the previous false King and defeating Zeromus. Baron Castle gets attacked by monsters sent by the Mysterious Girl, as she confronts Cecil herself with Bahamut at her side, now under her control. He fights Bahamut and loses quickly, rendering him unconscious. The Mysterious Girl then puts him under her control and takes him to the throne room, where he awakens and becomes a puppet for her. This is very similar to what happened when Golbez took control over others in the prequel.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Cover-----

    By selecting this ability, you can choose to "cover" another ally. Cecil willtake the blow for the ally you chose the next time s/he is attacked by aphysical attack. However, he will *not* take a blow from a magic attack. This

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    14/411

    ability is trigged automatically when an ally is at critical health.

    White Magic-----------

    Just like in the prequel, Cecil learns several White Magic spells throughoutthe game:

    Level 15 - CureLevel 15 - SightLevel 15 - LibraLevel 15 - CuraLevel 19 - TeleportLevel 24 - Esuna

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ============Rosa Farrell============

    Class: White Mage

    Age: 36

    Biography: Rosa is a White Mage who really doesn't have as much significance as most other characters, plot-wise. In the original game, she worried about Cecil (whom she is in love with, and married to in this game) when he was order by the false King of Baron to deliver a package to the village of Mist, known as the Carnelian Signet. After he was seperated from Kain, he found himself at Kaipo, a town in the middle of a desert. Rosa quickly rushed there out of concern, only to catch a desert fever on the way. Cecil and his friends found her there and defeated an Antlion for a Sand Pearl, which cured her fever. Golbez later captured her and they rescued her soon after. In this game, she plays a really minor role. She helps Cecil defend Baron Castle

    when it is under attack, then later joins the rest of the group to travel to the True Moon.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Aim---

    This is only useable when she has a bow equipped. With it, use this command andshe'll be guaranteed to hit an enemy with an arrow. This ensures 100% accuracy,

    but the downside is that it requires a slight charge time, unlike the normalFight command.

    Blessing--------

    Similar to Porom's Pray ability, this restores HP *and* MP to the entire party.However, it will not always work.

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    15/411

    White Magic-----------

    Second only to Porom, Rosa is the best White Mage in the game. Below is a listof the levels she learns her spells at:

    Level 15 - HoldLevel 15 - LibraLevel 15 - SightLevel 15 - ProtectLevel 15 - SlowLevel 15 - CureLevel 15 - RaiseLevel 15 - CuraLevel 18 - EsunaLevel 20 - BerserkLevel 21 - TeleportLevel 23 - BlinkLevel 24 - ConfuseLevel 29 - ShellLevel 30 - CuragaLevel 30 - MiniLevel 30 - Silence

    Level 33 - DispelLevel 35 - HasteLevel 38 - FloatLevel 40 - ReflectLevel 45 - CurajaLevel 55 - AriseLevel 60 - Holy

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ==============Cid Pollendina

    ==============

    Class: EngineerAge: 71

    Biography: In the original game, Cid was Cecil's primary source for airships and upgrades to them. He's the one that showed them the way to their first airship, and later found the Falcon buried somewhere within the Tower of Babil. He also closed the entrance to the Underworld to prevent the Red Wings (at the time, commanded by Golbez) from destroying Cecil and the group while they made their escape, back to the upper world. He was presumed dead but later found alive, yet weak, in the Dwarven Castle. In The After Years, he helps Cecil and

    Rosa defend Baron from the monsters attacking the castle, and later joins the rest of the party in the final chapter.

    Analyze-------

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    16/411

    Although it doesn't always succeed, Analyze scans an enemy, displaying its HP,and telling you its weakness if it has one. Like I said though, it won't alwayswork, and may not work at all on certain enemies.

    Risk Strike-----------

    This is just like a regular attack, only it's a guaranteed critical hit if itlands. It has a low chance of succeeding though, so it's really not worth thetime to use.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ==========================Kain Highwind (Hooded Man)==========================

    Class: Holy Dragoon, N/A (Hooded Man)Age: 38

    Biography: Kain is (or was) Cecil's best friend, but he's also kind of a rival

    to him. In the original game, he was often jealous of him because he wanted Rosa for himself. This is evident if you remember Kain's words in the original game, where he said that he was never fully controlled by Golbez, and that he was in control of himself, even if slightly. He is also very loyal to his kingdom (Baron), but not so loyal as to crush the Dragoon's name over it. In this game, he finds Ceodore after the airship crashes and helps him reach Baron, with the "Hooded Man" identity. Later in the game, he fights and defeats his dark side once and for all, redeeming himself as a Holy Dragoon.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities

    +++++++++++++++++

    NOTE: These abilities are *only* useable when he becomes a Holy Dragoon, Jump being an exception. As the Hooded Man, he can use Jump during the fight with his dark side.

    Jump----

    Kain leaps into the air and comes back down about five seconds later, dealing adecent amount of damage to a single enemy. This ability isn't quite as usefulas it was in the prequel, but it's still nice to have.

    White Magic-----------

    Kain also gets White Magic, although he's not very proficient at it. He has allof his White Magic by default, when he becomes a Holy Dragoon:

    =====Rydia=====

    Class: SummonerAge: 37 (Physically)

    Biography: In the beginning of the original game, Cecil and Kain found Rydia in the village of Mist. Rydia happened to hear them talking, and overheard that they had killed the Mist Dragon. Her mother summoned it to protect the Mist Cave, and when the dragon died, her mother did as well. As a result, she held bitterness and anger towards the duo, and refused to come with them to safety when offered. She then summoned Titan and seperated them by having it use Gaia's Wrath. This created a cliff between the village and the desert, and Cecil ended up with Rydia on the side where the desert is (Kain presumably

    remained in the village). He then took her to the nearby village of Kaipo to rest up, and after defeating some soldiers of Baron, she gained his trust and joined him. Later in the game, she falls into a body of water along with Yang and Edward.

    Once Cecil and his group reaches the Underworld, Rydia makes a surprising return when she saves Cecil from being killed by Golbez. She is an adult at this point; it turns out she was taken to the land of Eidolons, the Feymarch, by Leviathan. She was raised and trained to be a better summoner there by Leviathan and Asura. Time flows much differently there, which explains her rapid growth into an adult before even a year has passed. In this game, she leaves the Feymarch to pay her old home, the village of Mist, a visit. Upon

    returning to the Feymarch, she finds out that all of the Eidolons have been turned to stone by the Mysterious Girl, and soon meets Luca, who helps her get to the bottom of this incident.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Summon------

    Self-explanatory. This command allows Rydia to summon an Eidolon of her choice.

    However, throughout her entire chapter, she cannot summon anything because theMysterious Girl turned them all to stone (she *can*, however, use the summonsyou get by finding rare items: Bomb, Mindflayer, Cockatrice, and Goblin). At acertain point during Porom's chapter, she is playable and is able to summon,because that part of the chapter takes place before they were turned to stone.She can recover all of the Eidolons during the final chapter.

    Black Magic-----------

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    Rydia is, quite possibly, the best Black Magic user in the game. The levels shelearns her spells at are as follows:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ====Luca====

    Class: Shop HandAge: 21

    Biography: Luca is the daughter of King Giott, who is the King of the Dwarven Castle located in the underworld. In the original game, she didn't serve much of a purpose plot-wise, but she had a slight significance towards the end of the game: she gives the players a key to open the entrance to the Sealed Cave. In this game, she meets Rydia outside of the cave leading to the Feymarch, and then tells her that the Mysterious Girl has taken most of the Dark Crystals. The two then head to Dwarven Castle via airship, only to find that the Crystal there has been taken as well. The only one left is in the Sealed Cave, so with Rydia, she sets off there with her dolls who were controlled by Golbez in the first game, Calca and Brina.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Analyze-------

    Although it doesn't always succeed, Analyze scans an enemy, displaying its HP,and telling you its weakness if it has one. Like I said though, it won't always

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    work, and may not work at all on certain enemies.

    Big Throw---------

    Luca throws her hammer and deals the same amount of damage regardless if she'sin the back row. It also apparently deals more damage than a normal attack.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    =====Calca=====

    Class: DollAge: None

    Biography: Not much to say about this. Calca is part of a pair of dolls (the other named Brina) whom were made by Luca. In the first game, both were puppets of Golbez, and there were actually three of each. Cecil's group had to fight them, and they combined into one doll, known as Calcabrina. In this game, they have been "remade" by Luca,

    and are allies of her and Rydia in Rydia's chapter. If you don't gather the necessary items, both dolls are destroyed near the end of the chapter. If you have the items, they'll be repaired at the end of the chapter, and can thus be used in the final one.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Jive----

    This ability makes Calca choose an enemy attack to use at random. There areseveral attacks it can use, and I will list them here:

    ================Yang Fang Leiden================

    Class: Monk

    Age: 52

    Biography: Yang is a Monk of the kingdom of Fabul, and in this game, he is its King. In the original, Cecil and the group saved him from Mom Bomb, a giant Bomb that was split into several different Bombs before combining. After the battle, he joins the group as they head to Fabul Castle along with them. When they reach the castle, it is attacked by the Red Wings, as they fight their way to the Crystal Room to protect the Crystal from being stolen. It's a futile effort when a mind-controlled Kain is in the room and fights and defeats

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    23/411

    Cecil. Golbez then makes his first appearance, knocking everyone to the ground and ordering Kain to take the Crystal. Shortly after, the group departs from Fabul via boat, where Leviathan attacks the ship and knocks him into the water. He is later found in Baron's town, now a victim of Golbez's mind-controlling.

    Cecil's group defeats him and he comes back to his senses, then rejoins, later sacrificing himself in the Tower of Babil to save the dwarves from being destroyed. It turns out he was saved by the Sylphs, fairy-like beings. He later helps out to distract the Giant of Babil as Cecil's group heads inside and destroys it. In this game, he now has a daughter named Ursula. He is extremely protective of her, and opposes any reckless ideas she has.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Focus-----

    In this game, Focus allows Yang to focus on a single enemy and deal a strike toit which will cause a moderate amount of damage. In the DS version of the first

    game, you could use it three times and then use a normal attack to deal amassive amount of damage, so it's not quite as useful here.

    Kick----

    Yang takes a leap and kicks all of the enemies on the field, causing minordamage. It's not that great of an attack, but it has gotten me out of sometight spots before, so if you're about to die by a group of enemies, I suggestusing it.

    Cover-----

    By selecting this ability, you can choose to "cover" another ally. Yang willtake the blow for the ally you chose the next time s/he is attacked by aphysical attack. However, he will *not* take a blow from a magic attack.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ======Ursula======

    Class: PrincessAge: 17

    Biography: Ursula is a new character to the FFIV universe. She is the daughter of Yang, who is extremely protective of her and refuses to train her in the ways of martial arts. She is a stubborn girl, often going against her father's wishes. When Yang goes into the Adamant Forest to get some Palm Oil for their ship, Ursula goes in to check on him since he doesn't come back. They eventually run into each other,

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    24/411

    then they find the Palm Oil together and head back to the ship.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Kick----

    Ursula takes a leap and kicks all of the enemies on the field, causing minordamage. It's not that great of an attack, though, and it's probably better touse with Yang if you're going to use it at all.

    Chakra------

    Using this restores the HP of an ally, also curing a few negative statusailments if they're inflicted.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    =====Palom=====

    Class: Black MageAge: 22

    Biography: In the first game, Palom was very disrespectful. He often showed disrespect to the Elder of Mysidia, among lots of other people. His sister, Porom, usually had to set him straight by giving him a good whack on the head. He and Porom were ordered by the Elder of Mysidia to help Cecil reach the top of Mount Ordeals, to redeem himself as a Dark Knight and become a Paladin. It is later revealed that they

    were actually ordered to spy on him. After defeating Cagnazzo, Palom and Porom turn themselves to stone while holding moving walls together to save Cecil and the group. The Elder restores them to normal near the end of the game. In this game, Palom has donned a green and white-striped shirt and a blue jacket, now a much better mage than before. He is still treated like a child in Mysidia, which frustrates him often, and so he sets out for Troia.

    He finds Leonora at Troia Castle, who is training to become an Epopt, and decides to become her master as he teaches her to use Black Magic at the Tower of Trials.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Black Magic-----------

    Palom learns his Black Magic spells faster than Rydia, primarily because hecannot summon. Here are the levels in which he learns his spells:

    Bluff-----

    Using this increases Palom's Intellect, and also lowers the stats of everyenemy on the field. When he has his Intellect improved, his Black Magic willdeal more damage.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    =======

    Leonora=======

    Class: Epopt Trainee / EpoptAge: 24

    Biography: Leonora is a young and kind woman, often stuttering with her words when being scolded by Palom. She becomes Palom's apprentice as he trains her to use Black Magic so she can become an Epopt of Troia. He trains her at the Tower of Trials where she learns to use the three basic Black Magic spells: Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard. It later turns out that Leonora is actually the small girl that Palom bragged to about opening the way to Mount Ordeals during the ending

    of Final Fantasy IV.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Black Magic-----------

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    26/411

    Leonora's Black Magic isn't that great; pretty much any other person in thegame who can cast it outclasses hers. That being said, she *can* still cast it,but she doesn't start learning it until you finish the Tower of Trials. Here isthe list of things she learns, and when (she learns Fire, Blizzard, and Thunderduring the trials, so I won't list those):

    Level 15 - PoisonLevel 22 - SleepLevel 30 - StopLevel 36 - DrainLevel 39 - OsmoseLevel 78 - FiragaLevel 85 - Flare

    White Magic-----------

    Her White Magic is better than her Black. She excels in this type of magic, andif you're gonna use her in the final chapter for any reason, this should be it.However, I recommend using Rosa or Porom instead, because they learn more thanshe does, including Curaja. She learns the following:

    Level 3 - Cure

    Level 3 - RaiseLevel 3 - TeleportLevel 3 - EsunaLevel 5 - LibraLevel 8 - SightLevel 11 - HoldLevel 12 - CuraLevel 13 - SlowLevel 17 - ProtectLevel 19 - SilenceLevel 23 - BerserkLevel 25 - ShellLevel 32 - Mini

    ==============Edge Geraldine==============

    Class: Ninja

    Age: 43

    Biography: In the original game, Cecil and the group first met Edge in the Eblan Cave, near the Tower of Babil's alternate entrance. He was seen fighting one of Golbez's Four Elemental Archfiends, Rubicante, and was promptly defeated. Humiliated at his loss, he swore revenge, refusing the help of Cecil and the group since he wanted to settle things with Rubicante alone. However, Rydia began crying, saying that they were losing too many people to Golbez and his minions, and Edge, being the flirt that he is, accepted help because he couldn't

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    27/411

    bear to see Rydia crying. In the Tower of Babil, he finds out that his parents have been turned into monsters as Rubicante appears before him right after they suicide. Because of the coincidental appearance, he blames him for the transformation of his parents, becomes enraged, and defeats him.

    In reality, it is Dr. Lugae who did that to them. After the fight, he agrees to help stop Golbez from gathering the rest of the Crystals. In this game, he is now the King of Eblan. He has matured a lot in seventeen years, also not being as flirtatious as he used to be. He has four apprentices: Tsukinowa, Izayoi, Zangetsu, and Gekkou. He trains all of them in the art of Ninjutsu.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Ninjutsu--------

    This ability is exclusive to Edge and his apprentices. Ninjutsu is similar tomagic, but have unique animations and effects. He learns the following Ninjutsuat the following levels (it costs MP to use these):

    ===============

    Gekkou, of Fire===============

    Class: NinjaAge: Unknown

    Biography: Gekkou is one of Edge's four apprentices, and is the leader of the four, known as the Eblan Four. There's really not much to say about this guy, since he has practically no backstory or anything that stands out. However, like the other three ninjas, if he gets KO'd at

    =====Porom=====

    Biography: Porom is Palom's twin sister. In the first game, she and Palom were

    ordered by the Mysidian Elder to "guide" Cecil to the top of Mount Ordeals during his journey to redeem himself and become a Paladin. After the trial, it turns out that the Elder really ordered them to watch over him since he (the Elder) did not trust him. They decide to remain with Cecil to help him to stop Golbez from obtaining all of the Crystals, and after the group defeats Cagnazzo, he sets a trap in the hallway before the throne room which triggers the lock on the doors and the walls to close in on them. In a desperate attempt, Palom and Porom push against the walls and cast Stone on themselves to prevent Cecil and his group from death. The Elder restores them near the end of the game. In The After Years, Porom has become a pretty lady with pink hair and clothes.

    She has also become a better White Mage over the past seventeen years. Still having trouble dealing with Palom, she is left to protect Mysidia and its residents, along with the Elder, since he left for Troia to attempt to become a Sage. With the help of a generic Black Mage and White Mage, she heads up Mount Ordeals as ordered. At the top, she meets with Kain's dark form, who rescues them from a group of monsters as they head back to Mysidia. There, they encounter the Mysterious Girl, who Kain gives the Crystal to, promptly following the girl afterwards. Porom and the mages then chase him down as he takes the Devil's Road back to Baron.

    White Magic-----------

    Porom is proficient in White Magic, obviously, being a White Mage and all. Sheis definitely someone you might want to consider adding to your time during thesecond part of the final chapter. She learns her spells at:

    =====================Edward Chris von Muir=====================

    Class: RoyalAge: 41

    Biography: In the first game, Edward had a girlfriend named Anna, whom he loved dearly. Cecil and the group meet an old Sage named Tellah in the Underground Waterway, who wanted to defeat the monster known as Octomammoth to reach Damcyan, since he had heard that she was deceived by Edward. Upon arriving, Anna is found lying on the

    ground, nearly dead, then Edward is blamed for the killing. However, it is revealed that Golbez ordered the Red Wings to attack the castle, fatally wounding her in the process. Edward cries, saying that he's staying with Anna no matter what. With some convincing, he joins the party to help Cecil's group get a Sand Pearl for Rosa. That night in Kaipo, he steps outside and plays some music (since he's a Bard...a spoony one!), and is then attacked by a Sahagin. Anna's spirit appears and with her encouragement, he defeats the monster.

    He then goes back inside to rest. After the Fabul raid by the Red Wings, he, along with Rydia and Yang, falls off of the boat, being attacked by Leviathan, and into the water, temporarily lost. He is

    seen later in the game resting up in Troia Castle, and uses the Whisperweed to help Cecil's group defeat the Dark Elf. In this game, he is the King of Damcyan, which has been rebuilt. He now has a secretary named Harley. At the start of his chapter, she is nowhere to be found, so he takes three soldiers of Damcyan with him as they head out to find her. At the end of his chapter, he visits Cecil in Baron Castle (after finding Harley and then recovering her from the desert fever she catches soon after), giving him a plant with a Whisperweed inside, so he can eavesdrop on him.

    +++++++++++++++++

    Bardsong--------

    Being a Bard, Edward excels in singing, and thus he gets his own uniquecommand. Certain songs do certain things to enemies and allies alike, and Iwill list them here (they are random and may not succeed):

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Healing HarmonyDescription: Restores a slight amount of HP to your allies.

    Guardian's BalladDescription: Increases the physical and magical defense of your allies.

    Salve-----

    This is just like using an item, only Edward will use multiple items to healyour entire party (so he will use 5 Potions each time you use this). I preferhealing manually, personally.

    Escape------

    When you use this, Edward runs off-screen. As long as he remains this way,enemies cannot hit him, even with magic attacks. You have to choose "Return" in

    order for him to come back, and he cannot do anything besides this whilehiding. If all of your party members except him are dead, and he is hiding, hewill automatically come back on-screen.

    ======Harley======

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    37/411

    Class: SecretaryAge: Unknown

    Biography: Not much is known about this woman, except that she was once seduced by Edward's voice while singing, which is what caused her to become his secretary. At the beginning of Edward's chapter, she is missing, and her location is the Impact Crater. They find her there, where she rejoins with them. While going through the Old Waterway, she catches a fever (the desert fever that seems to be so common around Kaipo and Damcyan). Edward takes her to Kaipo to rest in the same bed that Rosa rested in in the first game, and then sets out for the Antlion Cave for a Sand Pearl to cure her. She is then recovered after they retrieve the pearl.

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Piercing Sight--------------

    If an enemy is able to put positive status effects onto your party, this will

    display what effects can be put on you. It will also change the elementalweakness of an enemy, or give it one if it doesn't have one. This is notguaranteed to succeed, and really isn't that necessary throughout Edward'swhole chapter.

    Gil Toss--------

    This is similar to Zeninage, seen in Final Fantasy V. Using it, Harley tossesout some of your cash to deal a decent amount of damage to all enemies. Don'tabuse this, though! It can burn through your money quickly.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ======Golbez======

    Class: LunarianAge: Unknown

    Biography: Golbez is the main antagonist of the first game, and is the brother of Cecil. In the original game, he was the main cause of a lot of things that happened. For example, he commanded the Red Wings after

    ordering Cagnazzo, one of the Four Elemental Archfiends, to dispose of the real King of Baron (Odin) and take his place. He was also responsible for mind-controlling Kain on two different occasions, and Yang on one occasion. That's just the tip of the iceberg, too. However, while inside the Giant of Babil, a Lunarian (a race of people on the Red Moon) named Fusoya made him come to his senses by removing his control over Zemus, another Lunarian filled with hatred who slept at the core of the Red Moon, yet manipulated Golbez at the same time. It was then revealed that he is Cecil's brother, and in the DS remake, it's revealed that his real name is Theodor.

  • 8/10/2019 FF4 After Years

    38/411

    After the Giant of Babil was destroyed, Golbez and Fusoya set out for the Red Moon to dispose of Zemus once and for all. Cecil and his group, now reunited with Kain (no longer being manipulated), also went to the Red Moon for the same reason. After Zemus was defeated, Golbez and Fusoya went into the Chamber of Sleep to rest for a long time, since Golbez felt he could not go back to Earth at the moment after all of the suffering he caused. In this game, he has a nightmare in his chamber, and then awakens. He feels that something has gone wrong, so he exits the chamber and the Lunar Subterrane where Zemus was defeated years ago. He meets up with Fusoya, and they notice that the Crystals have turned red. Something has gone wrong, and they set off to find out what's up.

    Also, at the end of Rydia's chapter, Golbez appears and saves her and Luca from Titan, who is being controlled by the Mysterious Girl. He is, at that point, simply known as the "Man in Black", and aside from during the Lunarian chapter, his identity is not revealed until after the confrontation with Cecil. He also makes an appearance as the Man in Black at the end of Edge's chapter, and he has gotten rid of his blue armor and helmet. He now wears nothing but black, which explains his identity as the "Man in Black".

    +++++++++++++++++Special Abilities+++++++++++++++++

    Pressure--------

    Has a chance of Paralyzing an enemy. It's kinda useful I suppose, but I didn'tuse it too often.

    Taunt-----

    This has the same effect as the Draw Attacks augment from the DS remake of thefirst game. That is, when using it, enemies that use any kind of attack willattack Golbez, and him only. It can actually be pretty worthwhile in certainbattles, but in battles where multi-targetting attacks are used a lot, it's notworth using.

    Black Magic-----------

    That's right, he has Black Magic, not to mention really high HP to go with it.However, he cannot learn a lot of the spells, he just has the most major ones,

    with the exception of Flare and Meteor (Square should've allowed him to learnthe latter though, since he and Fusoya used it on Zemus together). He gets hisspells at the following levels:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ======Fusoya======

    Class: LunarianAge: Unknown

    Biography: Fusoya is a Lunarian. Lunarians are a race of people who live on the Red Moon. He is also the brother of Kluya, who is the father of Cecil and Theodor Harvey, which makes him their uncle. He was to watch over the sleep of the Lunarians, who were all sleeping in the

    Chamber of Sleep at the core of the Red Moon, while Kluya went down to Earth (also referred to as the "Blue Planet") to teach about the Lunarian race and their advanced way of life. An evil Lunarian named Zemus had a different goal: to destroy every living being on Earth so that they, the Lunarians, may inhabit and populate the planet forever. As a result, Zemus was sealed within the core of the Red Moon in an attempt to prevent this. However, as he remained sealed, his hatred grew stronger, and he manipulated Golbez (since he already had some darkness within him, enough to be manipulated) to do his bidding on Earth.

    Fusoya, keeping watch for years, eventually met Cecil and his group within the Crystal Palace on the moon. He explained to the party

    about Zemus, and how he had been manipulating Golbez all this time. After the Giant of Babil is destroyed, he and Golbez head back to their moon together in an attempt to destroy Zemus. After his defeat thanks to Cecil's group, he goes into the Chamber of Sleep to rest for a few more years, and Golbez follows. In this game, he is reunited with Golbez as they head to the Impact Crater and face off against the Mysterious Girl.

    to everyone to take things off of his mind, and you then gain control. Feelfree to look around the menu at this point, if you want (press A to bring it upif you're using a Wii Remote, X if the Classic Controller). When you're ready,speak to the three soldiers lined up next to each other, then to Wedge if youwant, then to Biggs to continue. Soon after, the airship will arrive at AdamantIsle, and everyone'll disembark. You'll be on the overworld, so do as Biggssays and enter the town of Mythril in front of you.

    -----------------------------Prologue - Return of the Moon [PRLG]-----------------------------

    ========Mythril========

    Here, you are told that you have to obtain the Knight's Emblem inside theAdamant Isle Grotto nearby, in order to successfully complete the trial. Biggstells you that you'll have to move in when the moon is full, for whateverreason. Once you regain control, talk to Wedge to find out why. Basically,certain attacks, abilities, and types of magic will be effected depending onthe phase of the moon (certain mobs will only appear during a certain phase, aswell, just like Wedge says). It takes thirty in-game minutes for the phase to

    change. Alternately, you can change it yourself by resting at an Inn or in aTent/Cottage (I recommend using Tents should you want/need to change it, if noInn is nearby). Anyway, feel free to walk around this town and speak with thenon-human NPCs if you wish. Before moving on, there are some items to getaround the town.

    There's a Tent hidden in the grass to the northeast. You can tell when there isan item hidden within grass or water, because you will not be able to walk ontothe tile that has the item. Once you've gotten that Tent, go west from thereand head north of the Mythril Brothers (the pig and the other two guys). Northof them, behind the Weapon & Armor shop, is some grass. Search around in ituntil you find a Ruby Ring, then equip it. Alternately, you can give it to thepig, whom will give you 500 gil in exchange for it. The choice is yours, though

    I equipped it. Go east from there to a small patch of grass, where you'll finda Potion. Inside the Weapon Shop are a couple weapons for sale:

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Mythril Weapon Shop:

    Broadsword - 200 GilLongsword - 450 Gil

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    You can't buy any of that right now, though, assuming you didn't get the 500

    Gil from the pig. The Armor Shop, right next to it, has a few things available:

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Mythril Armor Shop:

    Bronze Shield - 100 GilBronze Helm - 150 GilBronze Armor - 600 Gil

    43/411

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    The Bronze Helm is the only thing out of those that you don't have, but don'tbother with it. You don't start with enough money anyway (this is all assumingyou didn't get the gil a minute ago). The Item Shop sells the following:

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Mythril Item Shop:

    Potion - 30 GilPhoenix Down - 100 GilGold Needle - 400 GilMaiden's Kiss - 60 GilEye Drops - 30 GilAntidote - 40 GilTent - 100 Gil

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    After looting the town of its items, head to the Inn and chose to stay thenight. The moon phase will change to Full overnight. Exit the building andWedge will tell you that Biggs is waiting for you at the grotto. Exit the town.

    ==========Overworld==========

    Save your game out here, then enter the grotto.

    ====================Adamant Isle Grotto====================

    Speak to Biggs, and after a typical scolding from him, open the four chests.From left to right, they contain a Potion, a Tent, an Ether, and a PhoenixDown. Talk to Wedge and the soldier on both sides of Biggs if you want, thentalk to Biggs and both him and Wedge will join your party. You can take off oneof their Bronze Helms and give it to Ceodore if you wish, but it doesn't reallymatter. Speak with the kid guarding the entrance to the first floor, then hewill let you pass, so take the stairs down. In here, go north and you'll getyour first encounter (it's forced; you can't run). More stuff about the moonphase will be explained to you as you fight three Goblins. Attack each of themonce to win the fight. Follow the path a bit and you'll get into another forcedencounter. This time, Wedge will tell you about Band attacks and show you howto use them.

    After the brief tutorial, open the chest to the south, against the wall, to geta Potion. There's another chest up the stairs to the right which contains aTent. Continue following the straightforward path to some stairs going to thenext floor. Before that, open the chest on the left for another Tent, thenhead to the next floor. In the next room, Biggs and Wedge will leave yourparty, telling Ceodore to finish the rest without their help if he hopes tobecome a member of the Red Wings. Head through the door in front of you, whereyou will find your first Save Point. You can use a Tent or a Cottage whilestanding on one, which will restore your party's HP and MP (Tents restore amaximum of 1000 HP and 100 MP, while Cottages restore both to full, always). In

    addition to that, the moon phase will change. I recommend resting in a Tent sothat the phase will change and your attacks will be stronger.

    Save your game and head to the next area. Since you just saved, you shouldlevel him up a bit. He's gonna die easily if you don't. I got him to aboutlevel 9 before I moved on. There's a chest on the left that you can get bygoing through the secret path in the wall, which is to the left from where youenter the room. Inside is a Phoenix Down. Continue through the room and headdown the stairs on the far right. Open the chest on the ledge to the left tofind a Bomb Fragment, then head south and get the Eye Drops out of the chest inthe corner of the room. In the next area, you'll see another chest when youenter the room. It contains a Bronze Hourglass. Once you get it, head right andopen the chest at the top of the platform for a Tent. Go all the way south,ignoring the northern path when the path splits. Take the southern path insteadto find yet another chest, this one containing an Antarctic Wind.

    Now go north and follow the counter-clockwise path to another chest. Inside aresome Echo Herbs. South from there is a door, but ignore it for a moment. Headall the way south and you'll see what appears to be a path that leads toanother area. This is actually a hidden path that takes you to a chest withsome Iron Gloves inside. These increase your defense by 1, but have no MagicDefense whatsoever. If you got and kept the Ruby Ring in Mythril, I recommendkeeping that equipped instead. Go through the yellow door to find another savepoint. Rest in another Tent if you wish, but if it's the New Moon phase, Cure

    will not recover as much health. Save your game and exit the room, then headsouth to the next floor. Here, you'll see a chest that has the Knight's Embleminside, just begging you to take it. Of course, it's a trap. Inside of thechest is the game's first boss...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sand Worm

    HP: 350EXP: 500Gil: 22Items: -

    Absorbs: -

    Boss Strategy: This is an easy boss fight. As long as Ceodore is at an average level (around 10-12), you'll have little trouble. Just keep wailing at it with physical attacks, as it will rarely attack. Use a Potion or Cure if you need to heal (do so if your HP reaches critical). After awhile, the worm will use Whirlwind, dropping your HP to 1 immediately. This will temporarily end the fight as Biggs and Wedge enter the room to find Ceodore lying on the ground. He wishes to do this alone, so the fight resumes, and then his "latent potential" will awaken. He then uses his new Awaken ability, restoring all of his health. Attack the boss a couple more times and the fight will be over.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    For winning, you will acquire the Knight's Emblem, and Ceodore will learn theAwaken ability. This ability restores him to full health and doubles his statsfor three turns, but if you don't end the battle within three turns, the effectwears off and his HP will drop down to single digits. After a scene, Ceodorewill officially be a knight, and Biggs and Wedge are back in your party. Nowyou have to trek all the way back to the cave's entrance. Once you do so, Biggsleaves your party again. Leave the cave.

    45/411

    ==========Overworld==========

    Back outside, save your game, then go and buy a Bronze Helm from Mythril if youwant, unless you gave Ceodore one of the soldier's helmets. You should also buyhim a Longsword from the Weapon Shop. When you're ready, "enter" the airshipand examine the pot to restore your HP/MP. Speak to the soldier and tell himyou're ready to go to Baron Castle. After a scene, the airship will be attackedby some monsters.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Belphegor (x2)

    HP: 950 (each)EXP: 1500Gil: 500Items: -Weakness: HolyAbsorbs: -

    Boss Strategy: Another easy fight. Have Biggs and Wedge use their Vibra Edge Band throughout the entire fight while Ceodore just attacks, healing the party when needed. You can also put Biggs and Wedge in the back row (this will, in turn, put Ceodore there too though) so they'll take less damage, as Band attacks ignore row damage. You may need to heal someone once or twice, but you should be okay.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    After the fight, the group'll notice smoke coming from the direction of Baron,when the scene suddenly switches to the throne room of its castle.

    =============Baron Castle=============

    Here, Cecil will be warned that the castle is being attacked, and after thescene, you'll gain control of him (Rosa stays behind for now). His level cap is30 for this point, by the way. Talk to the soldiers if you wish, then headsoutheast and you'll be attacked by a couple Gargoyles. Defeat them, then flickthe switch north of you to open the wall. Snag the items out of the chests: aTent, Decoy, and Phoenix Down. Head upstairs, which leads up to the outer wallsof the castle. You will be attacked by a Zu and three Cockatrice. Defeat themand head down the stairs to the right. On that floor is a save point, so rest

    at a Tent if it's a New Moon (so your White Magic will be powered up), thensave your game and go to the next room. Now you'll start getting randomencounters throughout the castle. Ignore the collapsed soldier and go throughthe northern door leading into the eastern tower.

    There are four chests in this room. From right to left, they contain: HermesSandals, a Hi-Potion, a Red Fang, and an Ether. To get the Ether, head down thestairs, then back up again, then face the chest and open it. Head down to thebasement again and examine the pot on the far right for a Remedy. Go back up tothe previous floor then head up the stairs to the east. In here, examine the

    pots to get some Echo Herbs, and Bacchus's Wine. The two chests contain aHi-Potion and Heavenly Wrath. Go up the stairs in this room and you'll see alady under attack by a monster. Before initiating a fight with it, open thechests nearby for a Remedy and 500 gil. Fight and defeat the monster, then whenthe girl runs off, open the last closed chest to get a Bomb Crank. Now headback to the interior of the castle, the main chamber. The left path is nolonger blocked off, so approach the stairs and a wounded soldier will enter theroom, then collapse. You will be attacked by a Centuar Knight.

    Just treat it like you have every other enemy in the castle. Once you defeatit, head up the stairs and follow the path until you reach a hallway. Rosa willsuddenly shout Cecil's name and enter the room. Worried about Cecil, she begshim to let her come along, and so she joins the party. For this portion of thegame, Rosa's level cap is 30. Head south through the door leading outside, andRosa will point to the moon. There are two! This ends the Prologue, but don'tworry, you'll immediately jump to the next ch
