ARTIST STATEMENTARTIST STATEMENT Due to my hobby for machines, robots, science fiction, detailed and precise forms from some Japanese mecha designers, which filled my interest in drawing, I decidedto study visual arts.Its clear that everything that influences us defines your artwork, including our life experiences, for that same reason I believe my work has been changing and transforming the different disciplines Ive come across also help on this evolution, adding to all this the emotional factor which correlates to the context I live in.

So, thats why in occasion my work will look: precise, clean, detailed, other times it will look too elaborate, playful, doodled, brusque, colorful, in occasions monstrous figures emerge, cartoonish, and a little deformed, but they define the personality and emotion of that instant, in other occasions the colors and strokes will define the movement and the feeling, anyway the possibilities surface when I put myself to work, for it will be time consuming torturing oneself to change or to not change a style, as life is, my artwork will continue to evolve.

Ha cubierto un área amplia en las artes visuales, tales como en el dibujo, pintura, escultura, video, instalación y ha participado en distintos proyectos artísticos como parte de la ESAV y el COLECTIVO UAN. Born on the 26th of September in 1989 in the city of Tijuana, Baja Cali-fornia, México where he currently lives and studied the bachelors of Visual Arts in the Escuela Superior de Artes Visuales.He has developed in several mediums which include, painting, drawing, sculpture, video, installation and music, he has participated in projects of both visual and musical.

MI ROSTRO ES DEL RESTO?IS MY FACE LIKE THE REST?

“¿Mi rostro es del resto?” is the title for the Art Instalation by the visual artist Fer-nando Servin, located on a bathroom of Escuela Superior de Artes Visuales. It’s theme revolves around the saturation of unsignificative information in our sor-roundings, also propagated by the mass communication mediums.

CAYÓ Y PLANTÓ SU CABEZAHE FELL AND PLANTED HIS HEADPublic space installation

He fell from the tallest point and planted his head on the ground. Later on, flowers start to bloom shaped as human heads. Are they humans or plants? Should we cut them or leave them be?While i was sketching on the location where i would place my installation (a green and small area), i remembered how we treat nature when we build on a terrain full of fauna or flora, i constantly hear he phrase “if it doesn’t help it causes trouble” and that is the mentality that reduces the posiblity to include nature to our artificial enviroments.

We prefer to destroy a handfull of possibilites.

EXTINCIÓN O SUPERVIVENCIAEXTINTION OR SURVIVALPublic space installation

This installation was the product of the collective work of three visual artists studying at Escuela Superior de Artes Visuales, Jorge Martinez, Luis Fernando Garcia and Fernando Servin. This intervention on a park consisted of a trail divided in two of humanities paths.The first is Extintion and the second Survival. Those who choose the wide and comfortable path of it’s first option, will obtain the nonestop walk to decadence, where brutality thrives against what makes us different from other species, the ability to create.On the other hand, those who choose not only to preserve our societies, but to make them evolve, are sure to be on the path to Survival, where their sight points to redescovering that quality which makes us human.

LA VIDA EN CICLOSCYCLED LIFE Public space installation

“La Vida en Ciclos” is a piece of Installation/Performance donde by Fernando Servin and the music band WALLE. This installation is about the cycles in a clock which are similar to humanitie’s, which are routinary and always the same leading us to decadence.The installation is made of a circle of numbered human figures, which represent the clock, and the musicians inside the circle which represent the clock’s numbers, setting the speed and rythm of it.

EL DELIRIOThe Delusin is a short video with no dialogue; it presents us a character in an intense delusionary state, struggling to keep away from shadows

trying to take over him. In seconds his loss of sanity is materilized.

HEADLESS (SIN CABEZA)Is a video for the band Pygmy Lush (part of work for Video class). The main character finds his family members decapitated once he enters his home. The murderer is also headless and tries to convince the main character to be part of the hole picture by leaving him headless.

LA NOCIÓNIn this video the only character shown holds still on the side of a high-way, while the notion of time starts to go faster through out the video.

It reminds me of the notion you feel in a strong emotional state.

LA TRAYECTORIAThe main character in this video is in a dark and hostile environment, carrying a suitcase that he needs to open. At the right moment, he opens it and a ray of light comes out of the cuitcase iluminating everything that sorrounds him, leaving behind the obscurity which caused terror.
